Another Blush??

By icyabstract · September 20, 2009 · 3 Comments ·

I'm afraid so!

Apparently I can't seem to help myself when it comes to blush or cheek products.
Here we have MAC's Color form (or Colour form - Canadian/British spelling - also printed on the box) Powder in Sun Centered and yes this was a limited edition product. I am not sure if MAC will be relaunching it nor am I sure of where you are able to find it. I had purchased it from an online seller (who only had stock of 1) for S$35 and the product was brand new. Not sure how much it retailed for, but I am assuming S$35 too?

In my effort to not spend extensively on makeup, sort of like I used to, I've been randomly surfing makeup communities on livejournal and forums where people sell off 'second-hand makeup'. I use the term second-hand but some of the products that are being sold (such as this one) are totally brand new. I guess people get buyers remorse after and sell items off. Though I don't always surf with the thought to buy something in mind, but rather to just get some makeup-window-shopping fix, I feel it's a great way to get bargain prices or to get your hands on limited edition products. Of course, some people do price products quite high even if they have been used so you'll have to scout around!

Anyway, enough of my little rant, I'll be doing an update-type post on here soon. Most probably featuring some of my school term projects. Just for the fun of it, to let you guys see what I'm busy with, maybe?
Let me know if you would like that, or not. (:

Review: Magical Tannsu Blending Brush (vs MAC 224)

By icyabstract · September 18, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

Since I don't quite have the time to do a write up on here, I'll embed the review video instead.
After all, regarding this, I think a video be a better reference than photos and words.

Thanks for watching!

Featured in Local Newspaper!

By icyabstract · September 18, 2009 · 18 Comments ·

Or the Urban section of The Straits Times, for those more familiar.
I was featured with Sarah Chaudhry and Wiwit Anggun.

Regarding makeup as a career, I did say I wasn't very sure about it and I still stand by what I say. I am considering it, but at the same time I don't feel ready for it just yet. Even if I do pick it up as a career, it might not necessarily be being a make-up artist. There are so many career paths in the make-up industry right now, being a make-up artist is one aspect of it. But it's safe to say that regardless what happens, I'll finish my studies first and the make decisions.

Here are some 'behind-the-scenes' photos courtesy of Wiwit and Sarah!

Group shot! With the reporter and photographer.
I must say the scariest part of this would be the photoshoot and also not knowing what to expect.

The photoshoot was scary because, well it just is! I'm sure most would agree with me. The fact that you're not sure which photo they are going to use, whether you'll look decent in it and if your smile looks like you've got a face cramp etc. You know what I mean.
And the next bit would be not knowing what is going to be reported. Although we did fill up a little questionnaire sort of a thing, what would eventually be written would always be ammended in a way. And we always hear horror stories about things being written in the wrong way and not reporting the right thing. But I guess that fear was unfounded. The report was pretty accurate and amendment was kept minimal. Thank goodness! haha.

Overall, this was a very exciting experience and as I have mentioned before, I have to thank everyone for all your support and encouragement.
It sure means a whole lot to me and I cherish and value every single one of you! And I'm not just saying that, you guys know it. (:
<33

p.s. For those who have read the full article - I have declined to reveal the brands because during that period, most of them weren't confirmed yet. It was that mailing back and forth period, so I didn't want to drop names when I wasn't sure. Fret not, if I am sent something by a company, I will be honest about it.

Pre-Newspaper Article! :)

By icyabstract · September 17, 2009 · 24 Comments ·

(seriously though, the man in the boxers..... tsk)
The Straits Times (Singapore's local paper), HOME Section.

I'm sure most people have seen it already, but I thought I'd just post it on my blog too.
Since I don't have a Straits Times subscription I could only get a shot of this when I went over to my boyfriend's place.
I'm probably going to scan the newspaper article (coming out tomorrow!) in, just cause I'm so excited about it like that. Lol

But thing is, I'm not the only one that's going to be featured, there are others too!
And I'll kind of keep those a mystery on my end. Whether they want to reveal it or not it's up to them ;)

It's pretty exciting and I definitely have to give a big thank you to everyone who bothers reading my blog and watching my videos.
Not to be all cliche, but without you guys, this wouldn't be possible at all.
So thank you! <3

Adorebeauty's Contest Look: Nu Rave

By icyabstract · September 14, 2009 · 20 Comments ·

So here is my contest submission for Adorebeauty's contest in which we are to base our makeup look off of a neon-themed poster.
Although my inspiration wasn't quite Nu Rave, it was something that just came to mind when I saw the poster Diana had provided.
(you may check out the poster with the link provided above!)

Well, I tried my best working with what I have to get the slight NEON effect as I realized I don't actually have Neon-ish eyeshadows. Maybe I do have a bunch of bright colored shadows but I wouldn't categorize those as Neons so I definitely needed the help of cream shadow bases to boost the colors.
Nonetheless, here are the products used and photos.

Products Used:
FACE:
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
Revlon Loose Powder (to set)
Canmake Color stick in 07 (under eye concealer)
Za Concealer Perfection

EYES:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Silky Girl Funky Eyelights Pencil in Lime
Silky Girl Funky Eyelights Pencil in Sky Blue
Canmake Color stick in 08
Lumene Double Ended Eye Pencil in Beach Life
88 Color Palette (matte/regular)
Noona Palette (bought from Batam, as seen in my Batam haul vlog on youtube)
Maybelline Gel Liner in Black (upper lashline)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
L'ancome Fatale Mascara

CHEEKS:
Bright orange shade from Noona Palette (near the undereye area)
Silky Girl blush in Honeywood (cheek area, blending to ear)
Magical Tannsu Contour Blush Palette (contour)

LIPS:
Canmake Lip Concealer in 01
Orange eyeshadow from 88 Color Palette
Majolica Majorca Tubegloss in PK122

(click to view pictures in full-size - and better color resolution)

(Pardon my brows, didn't have much time to fuss with them)

For my cheek/blush application, I adopted a bit of a different approach.
I started applying the blush most concentrated on my undereye area, slowly blending it out as it progresses across the rest of my cheeks.
Like so:

You could say it's more of that 'wayang' effect.
I actually like the blush applied this way, if I'm brave enough, I might wear blush out like that one day!
Anyway, back to the look.

So as I had mentioned, with this color scheme, the term Nu Rave just comes to mind, thus I decided to throw on a head band and be a wannabe-rave-kid.

Okay so that was one massive picture spam.
I'm sure you are all bored of looking at photos of me so I shall let you all go now.

Thanks Diana for this contest as it sure was a fun theme and look to do!
