Adonis 7 Haven Chakra Experience (& Contest)

By icyabstract · September 5, 2010 · 6 Comments ·

[Grr, I typed this entry out earlier before onsugar just died on me, so here's my second try.]

Adonis is quite a household name in Singapore because of television commercials and adverts from before. Though I have never frequented Adonis, I had a sense of familiarity with the brand, probably due to the exposure to the ads since I was a kid. The fact that they are a local establishment contributes to that too.

For those that don't know of Adonis, they offer spa and beauty services such as facials, body massages and more.

I was invited by Daphne, from Adonis, to experience one of their signature treatments, the 7 Haven Chakra which is like a massage and aroma therapy rolled into one.

Upon arriving at the branch, their staff greeted me and ushered me to a seat.

Across where I was seated I spotted these three pots of tea. While being briefed about the treatment, I was served a glass of Energy Plus tea (center one). I am not certain what is in the tea but I could tell there was a distinct taste of Ginseng.

The entire massage session is estimated to last 2 hours long and since I had not had lunch when I arrived (1pm), Daphne brought an egg tart over for me.

Before I go on about my experience and show photos, let me just explain this massage so you'll get an idea of what it is meant for.

The 7 Haven Chakra treatment mainly focuses on rebalancing the energy of the chakra points on your body. We all have 7 different chakra points on our body and they represent different parts as illustrated in this diagram:

Pink (sometimes purple) - Crown Chakra

Navy - Brows Chakra

Blue - Throat Chakra

Green - Heart Chakra

Yellow - Navel Chakra

Orange - Abdomen Chakra

Red - Base Chakra

Chakras are slightly complex to explain fully, but the idea is that they are energy forces within your body - like a 'center' or a 'core'. Think of them as power houses for various portions of your body. If you feel unwell at certain areas or are not in optimum health, say example your shoulders ache, you have a headache etc, that particular Chakra is not balanced or functioning at it's best. If your Chakras are balanced your body utlimately feels refreshed and rejuvenated.

How the 7 Haven Chakra treatment works is that it combines a full body massage with the use of 7 different essential oils for different parts of your body. Adonis also adopts an environmentally friendly image thus the oils used are ethically harvested and use methods that are eco-friendly.

Excluding the extreme left (black) one, all 7 oils are arranged in order. From Base >>> Crown.

During the session the therapist will first let you inhale the scent of a specific essential oil before using it to massage a designated part of your body. This procedure of using application and inhalation of the essential oils is key to help rebalance your chakra.

Each oil contains a distinctively different scent and you are suggested to visualize an imagery or scenary according to what you smell. This is a form of helping you relax through the massage.

I was told the oils used on the bottom half of your body (Base, Abdomen, Navel) are 'warmer' since that part of your body should be kept warm while the oils used on the upper half (Crown, Brows) are generally 'cooler'. Much like the saying goes, we should always keep a cool head. The oils don't feel cooling, it is simply a sensation the scent triggers.

If anyone wishes, I can list the breakdown of each essential oil in the comments section - ingredients used, what exactly does it do etc. It is a tad long to include all that information in this entry, but I do have it if anyone wants it.

So those were the technical bits I was briefed about before being brought to a small and cozy room.

And here's how the set up on the counter in the far back looks:

The above photos were taken with flash so you can see the surroundings better. In actual fact, the room was dimly lit accompanied with piano instrumentals playing for a soothing ambience. This is the actual lighting of the room:

Once in the room, I was handed another cup of tea to sip before the treatment. The Anti-Toxin tea I was given probably compliments the treatment as it helps clear the body of toxins, which is what this treatment does too. My best advice is not to drink too much at one go, remember you have to be in that room for 2 hours so visit the toilet prior if necessary.

The therapist attending to me, Vicky, was very helpful and checked beforehand if the temperature of the air condition was alright and guided me through what to do. As this is a full body massage, I was handed disposable undergarments to change into along with a shower cap. The shower cap is to ensure your hair does not get oily from contact with the essential oils.

This was my first experience with a full body massage but there was nothing to worry about or feel awkward about as Vicky was professional about it. I was left alone to change and called Vicky back after I was done and had wrapped myself in a towel.

The massage commenced soon after and my therapist, VIcky, mentioned what she was doing each time she moved on, changing oils, etc.

The massage started at the feet, moved up to the back after which you flip around and they massage your stomach, shoulders, face and head. It was an extremely relaxing massage, not the hard pressure sort that makes you squirm. Since I am ticklish at one point of the back massage I was trying my best not to squirm.

While it was relaxing, they do press certain pressure points during the massage. This action does not hurt but rather it aches a little when the pressure points are pressed. You do feel effects of relief almost straight away, so while it is relaxing there is a certain 'kick' to it at the same time.

Speaking of having a kick, after massaging my stomach, a suction-cup device was used to 'extract' the toxins. Supposedly the bad stuff are all being pushed to congregate at one point, your navel area and these cups help to 'suck' them all out.

There are meant to be three placed in a row, aligned to your belly button. The suction is slightly strong so you would feel it pinching but you can voice out to your therapist if it starts to hurt and they will adjust the pressure. It does leave a light mark on your skin for at least 1-2 days after.

I tried staying awake as much as I could but after Vicky started massaging the face, I think I dozed off for awhile.

Once the massage is over, Vicky helped to remove the makeup I had on and left me for 20 minutes while I enjoyed a refreshing face mask. I can't remember now but I think the mask is a oxygenating one... or something of that sort. Can't blame me! I was half asleep/awake during that period.

The mask concludes the entire session. After that, I changed back to my attire and Vicky came back with another cup of Anti-Toxin tea for me to hydrate myself after 2 hours. There is a mirror in the room too, incase you need to check your attire.

My thoughts on this experience
The massage is meant to heal and stimulate you from within and I liked how the different aromas help you relax in a different manner. Instead of one aroma throughout, you get to experience different sensations while enjoying a soothing massage. I liked how even though it's not a pressure heavy massage there was a slight 'kick' to it, such as pressing the pressure points. The essential oils used did not make my skin feel so oily that it made putting on clothes after was gross. Over all I did feel my body was more relaxed after the massage and the most notable thing was tension was definitely relieved from my shoulders. Consulting with Daphne she mentioned it's best to attend a session once every three weeks just to take away stress and relax.

I never knew the essential oils used in massages can play such an important role, up till now!

Sara: You know the thing about toxins being expelled during massage? I noticed something - when i went for massages regularly, the skin on my back was actually really rather clear? I don't have 'bacne' but it was way clearer than what it used to be. But isn't it enjoyable to get a massage?! Sometimes, I would book one on a Sat morning and then the whole week at work, i'll be looking forward to it! Sticking out tongue
