Haul: A little TMI-ish Grooming / Personal Care Haul

By icyabstract · October 11, 2012 · 8 Comments ·

Well, okay, I understand this whole haul mention is somewhat unnecessary because it sits in the TMI region but hey it is a grooming product and perhaps by sharing this maybe I could 'help' some who perhaps face the same problems I do?

A little self-justification here but I promise I wouldn't showcase anything TMI at least, alright?

The item in question is this Gillette Venus shaver in Spa Breeze.

Now here's the personal backstory, to support how this whole happened in the first place. If you don't want to read a grandmother story, just skip the next paragraph.

So... I have never attempted to use a shaver for my legs because the whole idea of it being a blade and such seems scary. I know technology is advanced to the point that shavers have cranies and nooks to prevent razor cuts but its not to say that they aren't impossible! Thus, I have always relied on hair removal creams (like Veet or Nair) yet I dislike how time consuming the process is because you will have to wait long enough else they wouldn't take effect and this doesn't include the whole application time either.

Now that was rambly but yes, a little personal / TMI grooming history of mine.

So one day, while cruising about Watsons, I was attracted to how cute the above razor looked and picked it up to read about it.

This Gillette Venus Spa Breeze razor comes with gel pads on the front and back of the razor, which helps to substitute the use of a shaving cream. All you do is simply wet that gel and you're good to go - smoother, hairless legs, here we come!

What's more the claim of a White Tea scent also lured me in. Though I found out, with use, that you can hardly detect any White Tea scent with it though it does have a mild pleasant scent.

The gel may seem like an additional frivolous thing for razor veterans but for a newbie like me, it sounds almost fool-proof and easy enough to use. It also provides the extra assurance that I would not be as prone to razorcuts due to the cushion of that and true enough, so far so good!

The pack that I picked up is a 'starter pack' and comes with the razor handle, 2 'tips' and also a wall mount.

There are also instructions on how to snap the handle into the razor portion (which comes sealed to preserve the gel).

I have been using this for over 2 months now and am still on the first blade without a need to swap out the head yet. Thus it's really not a hard thing to sustain seeing as how long one 'razor head' will last you.

It also comes with a handy 'suction holder' so you can conveniently place this within your shower!

Anyway, what I want to say in general is that I am glad I 'took the plunge' into the world of razor blades with this because it certainly is a lot easier and makes the whole grooming process that much quicker now compared to my previous approach.

I just wanted to share this product incase anyone out there may be looking for quick and easy hair removal tools and perhaps have not chanced upon this just yet!

Does anyone else face this razor phobia that I do?

Thanks for reading this random mid-week post! Loads of deadlines at work and am making / have made a few deadly hauls of late. I blame it on work stress!

LOL! I don't shave. Yups, Xyrophobia - a fear or the blade.
Thus far, I've relied on my trusty epilator, tweezer, used hair removal cream previously and now keeping hair-free with IPL.

Recently, I shaved off a strip of skin on my right leg. Yes, the strip of skin was stuck in the razor blades. Threw out all my razors (I used to use them in secondary school and stopped when I got my epilator.) and have gone back to my epilator. :\

hazelnutt: I've long wanted to try epilators! But they do sound a bit scary too with the whole pulling motion and I heard you have to get a good one because some hurt more than others etc. But yes I think IPL is a good way to go!

charlenejudith: Omgosh ouch! That sounds scary and I'm half cringing here. haha! I think I should really starting looking into epilators!

I don't shave! I kind of regret the first time I shave cos the hair that grew back was coarse and thick. In my opinion, when you start shaving, you can't stop!

Elmr: Actually I was super worried about that too and did some research and while it seems it does occur, rightfully shaving doesn't cause the follicles to grow back coarser and all and so far so good for me so... fingers crossed? haha! But yes I get what you mean too!

I'm so afraid of using these on my legs! I usually use a lotion. How do you prevent yourself from getting cuts and burns? www.chellalovespink.onsugar.com

ChellaLovesPink: Thus far the gel pads and the whole blade built hasn't given me any razor cuts or burns just yet and fingers crossed that it stays that way! Though I understand your apprehension because that was exactly how I felt before trying this out. I'd say you can use some soap and lather up prior if you are worried about it!

Okay. Thank you for the info! Laughing out loud I'll try it out.
