Nails: Something Sweet (China Glaze)

By icyabstract · May 7, 2010 · 14 Comments ·

As planned with my previous nail entry, I tried on China Glaze's Something Sweet - from the Up & Away collection.

It's a really pretty baby pink in the bottle and I had reservations about this color primarily because it's such a light pastel pink. I have this mindset that pink doesn't look or work as well on my skintone compared to alot of other colors.

Though surprisingly I thought the color worked well with my skintone and I really liked how it looked on, even if it was a tad cool-toned.

China Glaze Polish in Something Sweet

This was with 2 coats of nail polish - a really thin first layer with a slightly thicker 2nd layer. The flash washes it out a little, the pink shows up a bit more in person.

Don't mind the messy painting. I am currently trying to paint without getting polish on the cuticles. In the past I would just slap it on and go. Now though I want to try and paint it as neat as as I can so it looks good immediately without me having to clean it up.

Any tips on how painting nails without getting it on the cuticles and all?

I read some tips about putting the brush a little farther from the cuticles, push it back a little before sliding it across the nail (does that make sense?) - which was what I tried with this application hence, clean cuticles! Though I'm trying to perfect it a lot more. Any other tips that you ladies might have? I know there are tons of nail pros on here! Lol.

I'm not sure what color I should try on next. What color do you think (from the nail polish haulage) I should paint my nails with next?

Thanks for reading!

try the periwinkle shade.
I think I know what you mean. start with a steady hand, and yeah, don't worry about painting too near the cuticles.. or if you get the paint on your cuticles, they usually wash out anyway after a shower, or hairwash.

retail_therapy: I've been thinking about trying that one out too, it's such a pretty color. And yeap thats true, they do wash out but hopefully I can get a hand of painting it well that I don't have to clean it up.. that'll take awhile to master though. haha.

you carry off the color well, unfortunately the shades I have look awful. But I reckon its got more to do with the quality.

It is indeed a sweet colour!

AtelierGal: Oh like baby pink shades from other companies? That might be the cause? I remember owning a baby pink one from some other brand, it wasn't as pastel or blue-toned as this one but that one turned out pretty awkward against my skintone.

deardyan: Ha yes! Cotton Candy! That was the description I was looking for when I swatched it on my nails.

Erm... I don't know... I can carry off bright & dark colors but pastel & nude ones make my fingers look washed out T-T

i recommend you to just try to paint as neatly as you can, usually i don't have major issues with the cuticles, but rather at the sides. So what i do is after i paint a finger, i get a toothpick and scrap the excess polish at the sides away. I prefer using my thumb to remove excess polish, but it could destroy the manicure, so i'm trying to master using the toothpick. I hope you get what i'm saying.

i say, do a comparison between agent lavender and light as air (: actually i have a purple pastel nail polish from the face shop, i keep wondering if it was a dupe for agent lavender, so if you have TFS purple polish and do a comparison, that would be great Smiling

AtelierGal: Ohh I see. I'm still jealous at how well you rock that hot pink shade! haha.

teaplayground: I never thought to use a toothpick before, thanks for the tips! (: Ooh that's a good idea, I'm sure some might want to see swatches of agent lavender and light as air. As for the TFS polish I don't own that one, sorry! I don't have very many TFS polishes, I rarely purchase those because I find they go on a little runny and sheer, is it just me? haha.

no problem, glad to share Smiling sophia was so kind as to do the comparison swatch for them already. haha, i'm not very sure myself because i only own a few of them, but i'll say that i remembered that application wasn't exactly good.

teaplayground: Yeap I saw, much thanks to her for being so prompt (: Ooh I see, yeah I don't like how they apply so I never really got those. Though there are a few colors that are quite pretty.

getcharmed: Aw, yeah I can see how this might not work on tanner skintones though I think if you're tanner you'll pull off Peachykeen a lot better then I did! (:
