Sunscreen is that one very important step in the makeup routine that I always tend to skip. I don't have a reason for it except I'm not the biggest fan of how it feels on. By that, I am referring to the stick most sunblocks/sunscreens impart after application and they also tend to oil my face up quicker through the course of the day.
I have tried a decent amount of sunscreens, both drugstore and departmental, and as luck would have it I managed to chanced upon one that I quite liked and feel is a keeper, the Aqualabel White Protect Milk SPF 30 PA++.
My mom gave the product a try and liked it too, abducting it to her stash. Since our vanity counters are at different points in the house, for convenience I was about to run out and re-purchase a new one when I figured this would be a good time to give my stash a look and see what I can find.
I had a couple of sample tubes lying around and ran through all of them, to no avail. They were all representations of why I didn't like using sunscreen, until I decided to try this out.
The Leaders Clinic Mediey Sensitive Sun Cream comes in a very... cllinical representation (name included) and I figured that this product would most likely be thoroughly focused on sun protection and skip out the other ideals of makeup like texture etc. Though I guess I was proven wrong, in a good way.
Read on as I share my thoughts on why I fancy this sun protection product.
Well, pardon my rambly start but I feel I must share my backstory and view on sunscreen so you will see where this review is coming from.
❧
I received this product sometime towards the end of last year but was in too much of my Aqualabel comfort zone to try and change quarters. What's more with sunscreen, like pencil eyeliner, whenever I find a good one I stick to it because I know it is going to be difficult to find another that pleases me.
Before anything, here's a little rundown of the product's information and what it claims to do.
About the sunscreen
It has UV-protecting ingredients to block out UVA and UVB rays to efficiently protect the skin. On top of that Opuntia Extract, known for it's soothing medicinal qualities, help to comfortably soothe the skin during sun exposure. This product is good to use on sensitive skin and even children because of it's soothing quality.
With SPF50+ PA+++, this claims to be a mild sunscreen that is waterproof. Well, I'm not sure if SPF50 and mild should be placed in the same sentence but with claims like SPF50 and Waterproof I tend to steer well clear of such products. While those factors mean awesome sun defense and great 'staying power', it normally also spells crazy thick/sticky-feeling sunscreen.
Due to that I didn't dare use it on my face first and decided to test the texture on the back of my hand.
The product itself is tinted and comes out looking somewhat like a BB Cream.
o my surprise, the product actually felt more on the moist side and was not sticky or oily feeling at all. I could blend it out very easily and it does sheer out across my skin without leaving much of a stick. Of course there will still be a presence to it, especially since it is SPF50 after all, but nothing gross or stick along the 'get it off' lines.
I'm not sure if the above pictures are portraying it right but the product is creamy and it blends out effortlessly. You can see it has that 'moist' cream factor to it, honestly making it feel more like a BB Cream then anything.
While it looks like it carries a good amount of color and tint to it, I find it blends out almost invisible on the skin, which could be a good or bad depending on your view point. Good, because you need not worry about the shade not fitting you or being too light/ashy on and bad for those who are looking for an all in one product - coverage + sun protection.
If I were to critique how my skin looks after blending this out, perhaps I would say my skintone appears to be mildly evened but nothing that would make me give this any true coverage points. Though I remember reading other reviews mention that they liked the coverage it lends so... perhaps I am not using enough?
Nonetheless, I cannot judge how effective the sun coverage is but a random fact that I noticed about SPF50 sun screen on me is that I can't wear it consecutively because my skin will react and develop little small bumps which goes away once I quit with the SPF50 for a few days. However, in the case of this product, I can afford to wear it for a week straight with no issues.
Why so, I am not certain. Perhaps the medicinal and soothing qualities are present within the product enough to not irritate my skin? I can't say for sure as I am no pro when it comes to dissecting ingredients but that's my deduction.
The sunscreen has a mild floral-esque scent to it, nothing to potent and strong yet just enough to mask out the default SPF scent. When I say SPF scent I'm sure most will have a mind of what I am referring to! It does surface a little after the product has been worn for awhile but it's not something you will notice unless you are not wearing any scents (perfumes) and are focusing on inhaling and trying to catch that scent.

Well now, paragraphs of text later, here's my quick summary and wrap up of this product
In Conclusion
I think this is a fantastic sunscreen product and I love it enough to add to my 'favorite sunscreen' list which is an extremely selective list based on my history with sunscreens. While not always stated, I have been using this fairly regularly in my LOTDs and my everyday makeup, though still switching up here and there with BB Creams. While I can never completely change my mindset of sunscreen, products like this does make it a lot easier to do the necessary of protecting my skin against harmful UV rays, something my older self will thank me for.
I will still be on the look out for sunscreens, though in a very cautious manner. While it's nice to be in a safe zone, there's something triumphant about stepping out and discovering a little gem while trying.
Thus far, aside from this and the Aqualabel White Protect Milk SPF 30 PA++, Clarin's UV Plus HP Day Sunscreen SPF40 PA+++ is another one I have tried and liked. I went through a sample satchet of it and liked how it felt on along with it's light aroma. My only gripe is that instores it can cost quite a bit so it's a better idea to pick it up at Duty Free. If I remember right, it's over 20 SGD cheaper that way.
Leaders Clinic Medieu Sensitive Sun Cream retails for S$34.95 (60ml) at selected Guardian stores.
