Review: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation

By icyabstract · August 10, 2010 · 19 Comments ·

At long last here is my review for the Make Up Forever HD Foundation.

I have this in the Shade 125 and I am about a MAC NC25-30.

The reason why I took this long to actually review this foundation was because I had gone through a love/hate relationship with it. I will explain more about that in the video attached below!

This product costs 75SGD for 30ml, and truthfully that's not all that cheap. However I still went ahead and purchased it, but not without doing sufficient research beforehand. So while many people have raved about it, I managed to weed out those who mentioned it's downsides and so was a little mentally prepared when I got it. Which then made me understand why some have been slightly disappointed upon getting it after reading pure raves.

As of right now I do love it, but instead of just trusting my current love for it and my feature of it in my July Favorites, I suggest you check out the review for a detailed breakdown of why I had not quite liked it before.

Review: Make Up For Ever HD Foundation

Overall Rating: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction / High Distinction

Coverage: 2/5
Oil Control: 3.5/5
Lasting Power: 4/5
Packaging: 4/5 - packaging is cute, but that slight difficulty in dispensing small amounts...

Would I re-purchase this? Crazy enough, I just might. I think it's a nice foundation to have in the stash, but I'm just not certain if I will really run out and get it the minute it's out. Probably when I have dispensable cash.

Sara: I almost got this but the MUFE MA said that apparently, for it to look great, you got to use the entire range of HD products, otherwise its effect is lost. So we searched and searched for a proper colour match (ask Sarah and Sophia - I was at MUFE Stamford house for like 3hours getting colour matched! LOL!) and in the end, I got the MUFE Lifting Foundation. I do like that one, but I feel in comparison to my MAC Studio Fix Fluid, the MUFE Lifting one has slightly less coverage and seems to look a little worn faster than MAC SFF. it has a nice scent tho - like baby powder! Laughing out loud

I noticed that when I wear liquid foundation, I tend to break out. I only tried one brand, the Estee Lauder famous liquid foundation and had to put it aside as it cause an mild outbreak.

Does this clog your pores or cause any mild outbreak for you (assuming you remove the make up with the proper steps)?

cocomotion: Wow really? The MA didn't exactly say that but they did warn about coverage and recommended the Mat Velvet +, will probably get that in the end. haha. Ahh baby powder! haha. I didn't check that one out, might have to go see if when I drop by Sephora or Stamford. They have it at Sephora too right?

janis ng: For me this does not break me out, but then again I rarely experience breakouts with liquid foundation. Only the occasional super thick ones, but this is fine for me (:

Sara: I actually picked up the Mat Velvet first - the shade was a tad too dark for me and the next shade, well, was a little too light! Argh! So after that debacle, I decided I should get the HD foundie and thats when the MA told me that - then again, it might depend on individual skin reaction also? I think Sephora should have the Lifting Foundie also - but if I'm not wrong, Sephora doesn't carry entire range?

I'm using this foundation too, I encounter the same problem as u too .
It's slight difficulty in dispensing small amounts, but this bottle along could really last for a long times.

I tried this foundation, and it is not long lasting for me unfortunately ):

cocomotion: Ohh I see. I'm not sure if Sephora carries the entire range or not. It probably should... I just haven't checked out their counters at Sephora that much. haha.

xbeanie: Woots~ Laughing out loud

xoxovinna: Yeap that's true, which 'worries' me because they do indicate that 12month of shelf life after opening. Though I rarely follow that, as long as it doesn't break me out and still work fine. hehhh!

icefrost: Oh shucks sorry to hear that. How long would it last for you?

It lasted only for 2 hours. I did not use the HD loose powder, but MUFE mat loose powder instead. I did use the HD primer too. If only it can last long enough for me. The finish is flawless for me.

candydolls: I've never tried the HD Microfinish powder. It seems abit costly for me to splurge on now but maybe I might cave in in future. haha.

icefrost: Aw, that's a short time ): Wonder if anyone else faces this issue too.

hihi Sara, it's me Hazelnutt. Been waiting for the longest time to get into my own account but it's not happening. So i'm just gonna 'borrow' this person's account.

Wanna find out the shade that u use for the Mac MSF Natural that u showed in the video.

Hazelnutt: Haha okay. I'm using the MSF Natural in Medium but it's not completely fitting for my skintone. Shade-wise it's okay, I think it might be 1 or half a shade lighter then my skintone but it's not so bad since it's sheer. But the Medium shade has a pink tone that looks a bit obvious... I heard that Medium Plus is the same but with a yellow undertone, though that isn't in the permanent line? Not sure, though I think Medium plus might be a better fit, though how to get it, I'm not sure...
