Event & Introduction to Biotherm Aquasource (plus more)

By icyabstract · May 5, 2011 · 2 Comments ·

Last week I had the opportunity to attend Biotherm's little get-together where we were introduced to their Aquasource range. I know of the brand, Biotherm, but this would mark my first encounter with its products as I have never tried anything from them prior.

The Biotherm team took the effort to spruce up our little corner at Merry Men with cute little boards and cut-outs.

To kick start things, Jaz from Biotherm ran through some cards describing the newly reformulated Aquasource and clearly elaborated the key difference between this and the previous release.

The new Aquasource

As quoted Biotherm is 'taking hydration to a whole new level' with their new formulations which include key ingredients such as Thermal Plankton Cellular Water and Mannose, which is patented by them.

What are those? Well...

  • Thermal Plankton Cellular Water is a nutrient-rich fluid and the ingredients present in it is 86% similar to our skin's normal moisturizing requirements. This further encourages hydration, soothes the skin and prevents moisture loss.
  • Mannose is a naturally derived simple sugar found from tree pulp. This ingredient is present to increase the skin's potential to store more moisture by thickening the epidermal thickness. It also stimulates activity of a major protein that is involved in the skin's natural renewal cycle. This keeps the skin hydrated and renewed.

All that science aside, Biotherm's Aquasource promises to provide deep hydration over 5 layers deep. Some will be glad to know that the new formulation is paraben free, mineral oil free and suitable for sensitive skin. That aside, 40% of the jar packaging is made from recycled glass, a green movement from Biotherm.

Aquasource is also available in a gel texture for Normal/Combination skin and a Cream for Dry Skin.

Normal/Combination Skin

Dry Skin

Previously retailing at S$75, the Aquasource range is now retailing at S$69 (not a limited time offer price, don't fret).

Aside from being introduced to Aquasource, we digressed to talks about Biotherm's BB Cream - White D-Tox BB Cream (S$75).

Jaz, from Biotherm, was raving about the texture of it and in a 'you'll have to see it to believe it' manner, she brought out her own personal BB Cream (as I said, we digressed and the BB Cream wasn't quite meant to be part of this meet up!) for us to take photos and swatch/try. How spontaneous and nice of her.

I have to admit the texture was as she had mentioned, a smooth almost powdery finish, different from the conventional BB Cream finish that has a bit of stick to it. It's hard to define coverage and everything else from a swatch so having just received this today, I will be trying it out over the weekend.

It's been awhile since I had been excited over BB Creams, ever since work converted me back to a liquid foundation person.

The last topic of the evening was body products that Biotherm carries, primarily Size.Code (S$76).

Size.Code is a body slimming product for use around the stomach/waist region.

It targets the fat-prone area with an ingredient (ADIPOSVELTYL™ Complex) that increases AMPK Protein, a product in our body that triggers the cells responsible for burning our abdomen fat. Aside from the burning of fat, Size.Code contains Yeast Extract which stimulates collagen production and in turn promises firmer skin around the region.

It dispenses an orange gel-like liquid that blends out easily and does not leave a sticky or greasy feeling after. That makes it possible to follow the routine of using it in the morning (and/or night) as you will not have to worry about letting it dry before you get dressed.

For maximum effectiveness there is a certain application method which involves a little pinching and massaging. The steps are illustrated in the manual provided with the product.

While I can't say I will start relying entirely on this for a slimming effect, I do like its purpose of firming, tightening and being able to rid water retention in that area. Even with exercise, water retention can be one pesky thing to rid off.

If you are worried about slimming on other parts of the body, stomach aside, you can look to Slim.Code. The way it works is designed differently from Size.Code and with that, it has benefits of fighting cellulite as well.

Now if you have made it this far along, kudos to you as I have exciting news in-stored!

You will be able to collect a Biotherm set (worth S$53)!

All you have to do is head down to their Tangs Orchard Biotherm branch and quote my name (Icyabstract). It's as simple as that, no purchase required, and with that set you will receive the following:

  • Aquasource Deep Hydration Moisturiser (15ml)
  • White D-Tox BB Cream (5ml)
  • Celluli Laser Size.Code (40ml)

Thank you all for reading!

[UPDATE (06/05/2011)]
