My Qool Weekend at Quincy Hotel!

By icyabstract · August 28, 2011 · 8 Comments ·

Last weekend I enjoyed a 2D1N staycation at Quincy Hotel and It's actually my first staycation experience! Of course not counting hopping over to Sentosa as a kid, that's themed as 'out of SG' to my kid self!

I'm one of those that might wonder,
why would you stay at a hotel in Singapore, if you live here
?

But this experience did a very good job at explaining that logic to me. A Staycation is like a getaway but with the comfort of being in your own country, having 3G, data, and being able to call without the overseas charge/worry. The place you choose to stay at also does a lot in helping you achieve that getaway experience.

Ranked first as the "Trendist Hotel in Asia", Quincy is located beside The Elizabeth Hotel and within (considerable) walking distance to Far East Plaza and Paragon leaving Quincy in an urban yet private and quiet area.

Quincy tends to give off a service apartment vibe instead of the typical hotel atmosphere due to its architectural design. It almost makes you wish that it was a condominium that you could purchase a unit at and live in.

Before I go into details about my stay, a quick mention: The activities/perks I received in this Weekend Stay is NOT a blogger-exclusive deal. Anyone who books the weekend promotion at Quincy will enjoy the following too:

  • Activities during the Staycation (Yoga, Baking and Movie Night)*
  • Inclusive daily buffet Breakfast, set Lunch & Dinner
  • Unlimited broadband Internet access
  • Free local telephone calls
  • Complimentary cocktails from 6pm to 8pm nightly
  • Complimentary minibar, replenished daily
  • Complimentary bottle of red wine (delivered to your room)
  • All day coffee and tea
  • Late check-out till 3pm (Subject to availability)

*depends on your period of stay

I checked in around 4pm on Friday and was first brought to my room, a Studio King (the usual room).

Pictures wouldn't do this room justice because you have to walk around to feel the various aspects and angles of it. I filmed a room tour video and while I'm not proud of it, it will have to do to show you around the room. It's been way too long since I've done a vid and it's slightly shaky too. Oops.

If you're skipping the video (which you shouldn't because there are some knicks and stuff that can't be explained through photos), here are some images from the room

Their bath products are from Molton Brown, a UK brand (available at Takashimaya)

Hidden ironing board!

And not forgetting the complimentary mini-bar!
Everything you see in the room can be eaten/drank without additional charge.

iPhone/iPod dock to charge and play your music at the same time.

Cable slots to connect players to the television. You can call concierge for the laptop to TV cable, though they don't provide the Mac adaptors so if you're using a Mac, bring your adaptor!

There is also a LAN cable so you'll have a steady connection from your laptop.

About evening this was what the whole setup looked like. Sort of like a stakeout, no?

After exploring the room, we were given a tour of the hotel, this would be the only 'blogger event thing' but its basically to check out all the cool stuff that is found on Level 12. I call that level the recreational level.

On level 12 you can find the hotel amenities such as the swimming pool, gym, steam room and sauna room. We weren't dressed to explore the various features yet but here are snapshots with the evening sun pouring in.

Little chill area just beside the pool with bottles of water, drinks and towels for you to use. The fridge on the far end comes stocked with soft drinks and chilled water.

Feel free to grab a drink after hitting the gym or a swim -- completely complimentary again.

I like the idea of the pool and glass 'walls' to it, and it's indoors so even if it rains you can still swim.

The well equipped gym that's actually really nice. No musky nasty gym scent, very clean!

You can even watch the television while working out on the threadmill

In the right of the image there's a little door way and that leads to the sauna, steamroom and shower areas. There are also more towels and bottles of water in there as well.

After the 12th floor tour, I went back down to the concierge level to get some shots of the dining/lounging area while there was still some sun.

Mac computers around the lobby for your usage!

And the dining area that we would be having our meals at.

Quincy is a non-smoking hotel thus all rooms are non-smoking rooms, however they do have a porch or little area where smoking is allowed. The area is very well decorated with water features, chairs and the wooden planked floors, carrying a very Zen feel to it.

So that's a quick tour of the various aspects of the hotel, from room to amenities and surroundings. Here on I'll be describing our activities through the stay! It's going to be a slightly lengthy post due to the pictures but hey it's 2 days worth of stuff in one entry.

Hang tight!

Finally at around 7pm, the boyfriend knocked off from work and arrived at the hotel. Even taking the time to pose at the doorway before I dragged him in to show him the cool features of the room.

We went downstairs for dinner shortly after because I was starved. With this weekend package, meals are included so you practically don't have to worry about food and drinks through your stay at Quincy.

The starters such as soup and bread are free-flow so we grabbed those first after ordering our mains. Soup of the day for dinner was Clam Chowder! Yumm, my fav!

They had a nice selection of western, italian and local food on the menu.

During 6-8pm complimentary alcoholic beverages are being served at Quincy. They have wine, beer, liquor and various spirits. I had a Gin tonic while boyfriend got a Cranberry Vodka.

If you don't take alcohol, there are also fruit juices and punch along the side, free flow through the course of dinner (6pm - 10pm).

Boyfriend and I both ordered the sirloin steak because we were starved and wanted meat.

The wall lights along the side gradually change colors and for the fun of, I made a gif of some consecutive shots the bf took to show that.

No idea why it's so funny watching myself gif-ed, but tadah, changing wall lights~

After dinner there's dessert - Tiramisu!

If Tiramisu isn't your thing there's also a self-help ice-cream machine during mealtimes, complete with dark chocolate or strawberry syrup to go atop.

After grabbing some ice cream, we head out to the outdoor area to enjoy our ice-cream, scenary and the night breeze.

After that was a bit of slacking in the hotel room, bringing boyfriend around the place etc. Boyfriend didn't bring any gym attire but he tried out some weights and stuff at the gym.

Much later that night we decided to check out the pool, gym and other facilities since we could be caught up with other stuff in the day tomorrow. So we changed into the swimming attire we brought and headed to the 12th floor! Thankfully the facilities are accessible 24 hours!

There are lockers on the 12th floor as well so we dumped the camera, bathrobe and stuff in there once we were done taking pictures. The locker key comes in an interesting wrist-strap idea which makes it convenient to have on while you're swimming or gymming.

Boyfriend chose to go to the sauna room while I much preferred the steam room.

After spending awhile in our respective rooms, we went for a dip in the pool.

At night the pool is all lit up and has a different mood to it compared to the day. Frankly I think it's prettier at night with the various lighting feaures and all.

If you're staying for movie night (on Saturday nights) you can choose to be on a float in the pool or on the sofa seats. The movie will be projected on a screen where the glass area is now. Popcorn (both sweet and salty) and chips are also provided, which is super cool but I didn't attend movie night with my stay.

We were tired and hungry from splashing around in the pool so we spent the night raiding the hotel's minibar (cup noodles in bed!) while catching Final Destination 3 on HBO.

With the weekend promotion you will also receive a complimentary bottle of red wine to enjoy during your stay. I didn't get a solo shot of it but you can see it on the counter.

On to Day 2...

At Quincy Hotel they introduce various activities that you can attend during your staycation to make things interesting. The activities would be Yoga, Cupcake (or Tiramisu) classes and Movie Night (as mentioned).

The activities will change from time to time but this is what they are doing right now.

So to prepare for Yoga class at 8am, we got up at around 7 and changed into whatever yoga-ish attire we had. I basically wore whatever I used to wear to dance practice.

We look so lulzy!

The yoga class was held in the open area at the back upon moving the benches away. The feel of that area really works for yoga.

And some lulzy pictures of us during the Yoga session, pictures courtesy of DICE Studio.

After yoga, it was time to feast on the breakfast buffet spread!

They have roti prata, rice, hashbrowns, sausages, ham, toast and more. Quite a spread!

There's coffee (coffee machine made) and tea but if you're not a fan of that there were pitches of fruit juices as well.

My pick (and a bowl of yoghurt at the corner)

and boyfriend's pick

I must stress that he went back for seconds! As did I, but he had more seconds, I just had a croissant.

After breakfast we slacked in the room, watched television and raided the minibar some more. Wedding Crashers was playing on HBO so we caught that and before we knew it it was lunch.

Lunch is from 11.30am till 2pm so went down at 1 plus, close to 2.

A different menu from dinner and the side stuff is different as well. With dinner it was soup and bread but for lunch they had green bean soup (dessert) by the side and also a little salad bar for you to start your meal with.

Not much of a vege person but these are the ones I do eat. They provide salad dressing as well but I've never had interest in those (am not a mayo person). Am I picky? hmm.

My Aglio Olio!

And boyfriend's Seafood Hor Fun

There was a video crew over to document our stay so they got to take clips of the other dishes available. I was tempted to order the beef burger but since I had beef last night, it's probably not too wise.

It looks so good though!

There was a cupcake making/decorating session at 3.30pm so we decided to sit around, chat and wait for it since it was held at the dining area.

I went to make myself a cup of coffee (love the cappucino!) and grabbed some biscuits, which were really good. I loved the chocolate ones and I wonder what brand these are.

Boyfriend isn't a fan of coffee so he tried to make his own cookies and (ice) cream. Ice cream is available during lunch too!

We witnessed them preparing the ingredients for the cupcake class.

Once everyone was ready the cupcake class commenced with an ice-breaker/introduction. The filming crew came down to take footage as well.

Each couple was given the following portions and a secret recipe on how to make
Quincy muffins.

After everyone had mixed and baked their muffins, here comes the fun part...

Decorating some pre-made muffins!

I took 2, one vanilla and one chocolate to play around with and nope I had no hand in the creation of these so I'm not quite sure why I was posing with them.

Wasn't feeling very creative that day so I plopped random icing bits on but here are the cupcakes we did. Boyfriend's on the left and mine on the right.

I am definitely not eating those cupcakes until I've scrapped all that icing off!

After everyone was done we took a quick group shot.

By the time the cupcake session was over it was close 4 plus so we went back to the room to pack and prepare for check out at 6pm (Saturday).

Overall thoughts

Summing everything up, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Quincy Hotel. Upon sharing my experience with friends and family members they felt the package price (for 2 pax) at S$318++ was considerably affordable if you're looking for a nice staycation experience. I liked how everything was all-inclusive and you need not worry about food or drinks during your stay at Quincy as you're very well taken care of. WIth amenities to use and also activities to attend if you don't wish to lounge around in the room, it really seems like a perfect staycation experience. It all sounds so positive but it's because I did have an enjoyable and positive experience at Quincy.

I would personally highly recommend it if you're looking to a staycation for an occasion (birthday, anniversary etc) or just want to chill with a loved one or bestie. I do foresee myself going back again!
