LOTD: Birds & Blues

By icyabstract · April 16, 2010 · 12 Comments ·

This is a rather belated Look of the Day, it was actually the look I had wore to the Skin79 Dinner and Product Launch event.

Here are the products I used. Inspired by Chantana (everbluec) I have decided to highlight the products that I had received from companies be it through goodie bags or packages. Aside from the obvious FTC clear disclaimer stuff, this can also help with reviewing the products and showing how they perform - outside of a sole review entry.

Products Used:

FACE
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation in Sand Beige
- Revlon Loose Powder (to set)
- MAC Solar Riche Bronzing Powder

EYES
- Etude House Proof 10 Primer
- MAC Delft Paintpot (only on outer corners)
- MAC Birds & Berries Eyeshadow (outer half)
- MAC Bough Grey (inner half)
- MAC Deep Truth (outer corner)
- 28 Color palette (brown for crease blending, highlight)
- Maquillage Palette in BE763 (light pink color)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone (mascara) Primer
- L'ancome Fatale Mascara

CHEEKS
- NARS blush in Madly
- MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder (highlight)

LIPS
Worn off here, but I initially had on:
- Make Up Store lipstick in Invisible

Highlighted products
had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

I attempted to use both Birds & Berries and Bough Grey eyeshadow that I had hauled from MAC's Liberty of London Collection.

Within that haul entry I made an assumption that these two shadows would look pretty cute together, though I might be wrong? Bough Grey actually goes on quite sheer and takes awhile to build up, so I find that it didn't do much for the look.

In the end I layered the pinkish shade on the Maquillage BE763 palette over Bough Grey. Though it's hard to see in the photos, the color became a light pearl-ish almost lilac shade at angles shade. In the end it all worked out. As much as I love Bough Grey, it is not quite a color I will reach for as often as I had expected.

Shell Pearl Beauty Powder (from MAC) on the other hand is LOVE. I can't get over how lovely it works as a highlight, really thankful I bought it even though I wasn't so enthusiastic about it at the start.

And that's it, working on a couple entries, but I think I'll only be able get them up over the weekend, depending...

Tag: Sara's Go-to Beauty Products

By icyabstract · March 25, 2010 · 11 Comments ·

This is a tag that has been circulating onsugar lately and I had been tagged by the lovely Maddy to do it.

As with Diana (adorebeauty06), I do get questions from viewers/readers asking what I use on a daily basis or what are some products that I 'go-to'. So I hope this little tag will answer some of those questions, and for others I hope that it will be fun for you to read!

My definition of go-to is basically products that I feel I can reach for whenever, or products I can fall back on. 'Go-to' does not exactly equate to 'favorite' either, it just means what I know works for me regardless.

I have added a couple of modifications to the list and included a slight bit more products as well just to fit in stuff I use/like, so starting off...

PRIMER

L-R: Revlon Smoothing Primer, Monistat Chafing-Relief Powder Gel
I use these both for different things hence I couldn't choose between one. I love Revlon for an everyday routine because it helps my makeup last, but I prefer Monistat for events because it smooths my skin out really well (not as lasting though).

CONCEALER

L-R: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach, MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW25
The Bobbi Brown corrector I use for my undereyes and I cannot live without using a corrector. I can't seem to just use a concealer on there anymore. And the MAC concealer, nothing much to elaborate there. Fab coverage and I don't find it drying on my skin.

FOUNDATION

L-R: Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation in Sand Beige, Elizabeth Arden MIneral Foundation in 03
I chose a liquid and a powder foundation because I don't use liquid all the time, and vice-versa for powder. It was hard narrowing it down to one liquid foundation, but I chose this over everything else because of its coverage. I find that if I have no idea what to use, I reach for my colorstay. The Elizabeth Arden is one of my fuller coverage powder foundations (note: it's just medium coverage) so I tend to use it more.

SETTING POWDER

Revlon Loose Powder
Nothing fantastic here, just loose powder that works so I use it. Side-tracking, I'm actually very interested in getting the ELF High Definition Powder (Studio). I've heard it's comparable to MAC's Prep + Prime powder? If you have tried it, let me know!

BLUSH

L-R: NARS blush in Orgasm, I Nuovi blush in Dolly
My go-to blush shades are rather natural coral-ish shades (Orgasm looks pink but really goes on quite peachy-coral). I find that works well on my skintone and suits most looks, pretty no brainer.

HIGHLIGHTER

ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance
I have been raving about this ever since I got it, plus it's hit pan. I think that speaks for itself.

MASCARA

Majolica Majorca Mascara in Lash Enamel Glamour Neo (the earlier ones)
Right now it's this mascara, but about a month back it would have been Cover Girl Lash blast.

EYELINER

MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
I don't know why but I always find myself going back to this liner. It's not the most smudge-proof (though it does stay on good) or blackest one out there or even the creamiest, but I just have this unexplainable love for it. I've been using this product since I was 16 and this is only my second pencil.

EYESHADOW

28 Color Palette (from Magical Tannsu)
Probably a cheap inclusion, in the low-blow manner, because it's 28 colors! Logically I should have just chosen a quad or something but I really think that this entire palette should be included. I find that in finals week (in school) where I don't have too much time for makeup. My eyeshadow drawers are often left unopened and I only reach for this during my makeup routine.

LIPSTICK

Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Natural Nude
I think I have raved and talked about this enough, but I must stress again. This is a great everyday, all-look compatible lipstick. Plus it is quite moisturizing (not lip balm standard!) and very easy to apply.

LIPGLOSS

LA Girl in Beige Delight, Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze in Neverending Nude
Is it just me or do both shades seem to look almost the same? The finish is very different though. The Revlon one is a long-lasting gloss which can be quite drying but great for events if you need to talk a lot, eat or just not have time to touch up your gloss.

EYEBROW
Now this is where it gets a bit tricky... because I change my hair shades quite a bit I decided to include what I used for my different hair colors.

Redhead: Canmake Liquid in 01 (I think, either that or 03) and MAC Browset in Show Off
Brunette: Canmake Liquid in 02 and ELF Eyebrow set in Light

And for preparation of (perhaps) going Dirty Blonde in due time....

Canmake Eyebrow Liquid in 01 (or 03?) and Maquillage Eyebrow Wax in 77

BRUSHES

Face Brushes from L-R: ELF Studio Powder Brush, Essence of Beauty Foundation/Concealer Brush, KENT Makeup Brush in 11, KENT Makeup brush in 10
Eye Brushes from L-R: Coastal Scents Crease Brush, Mary Kay Signature Blending Brush, MAC 227, ELF Eyeshadow Brush, ELF Blending Brush, Random Craft store brush

NAILPOLISH

Metro Chic from Sephora by OPI
This is fast becoming my favorite and go-to nail polish shade when I don't know what color to paint on. I almost feel like I might need a backup!

And this is my rendition of the tag! Granted it was a little lengthy but if I were to use this to answer your questions I thought it would be fitting to elaborate a little on each segment. This format of doing the tag is inspired by Anonymous Bosch.

I wouldn't be tagging anyone in particular because everyone has already done it, so if you haven't and you are interested to, go right ahead!

Thank you for reading (:

Tutorial (past LOTD): Purple-Hued Navy

By icyabstract · February 9, 2010 · 5 Comments ·

If you have ace memory, you would realize that I don't have a past LOTD
that was titled Purple-Hued Navy.
So why is this a past LOTD? Well it's because I renamed it to best suit the tutorial outcome.

The LOTD entry is titled Royal Blues, but I figured that the end result does not resemble a Royal Blue so much, hence the decision to name it something more appropriate. I had also taken better photos since in the LOTD entry I took photos using my Mac's Photobooth.

LOTD: MAC Teal Pigment

By icyabstract · February 7, 2010 · 15 Comments ·

Just a quick LOTD entry on the look I had worn to the Elizabeth Arden White Glove Extreme Pre-Sampling Event, which you can read about here. Wow, now that is a mouthful. That linked entry also features a little of my outfit so I shan't post my outfit on here since it would be posting the same picture up again.

So eversince I had gotten the MAC Teal pigment, I haven't had a chance to use it as I am reverting back to my neutral kick, but it's a super pigmented, bright and pretty shade. Not sure if I would wear it the same way again as though it is nice, it's a little default. I'll probably try pairing it with some other color the next time I use it.

Products Used:
FACE
Monistat Chafing-Relief Powder Gel
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
Revlon Loose Powder

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Delft Paintpot
MAC Teal Pigment
My own pigment mix
Rhomlon Black Eyeshadow
28 Color Palette (warm brown in crease)
Revlon Colorstay Quad in Nude Elements (highlight)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Lash Bone Primer
Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel.. Mascara in Black

CHEEKS
ELF Blush in Candid Coral
MAC MSF in Refined

LIPS
Make Up Store Lipstick in Invisible
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Toast To Shine

I've (finally) started using the Majolica Majorca mascaras starting with the Lash Enamel one (the one that promises volume) and I love it! I wouldn't think that with the comb-styled wand it would actually be able to provide decent volume and that it might just seperate my lashes too well and make them look sparse. Though apparently it doesn't do that.

In this look I wore it with the primer for an added effect, but I think without the primer it's a good everyday mascara.

Oh oh! And I am wearing that new Make Up Store lipstick. I really love how the color looks on, a nude with a hint of peach. I am pretty certain this is easily going to be a favorite of mine.

I have one more entry going up that is slightly related to the happenings on the EA event day, it's a mini haul entry (: I should have posted all three entries up in one day but I didn't have the time for it (and have been slacking off resizine the photos) so I am spreading them out a little.

And that should be it, thank you all for reading!

LOTD: Royal Blues (+ outfit)

By icyabstract · January 5, 2010 · 14 Comments ·

Very appropriate title, no? With the back to school/work dread. It could just be me trying to make too much of a connection here.
This was yesterday's Look of the Day and I am posting it late because I totally forgot about it after I got home yesterday

Hoping on the bandwagon, I had donned a simple blue smokey eye.
For those who don't get what I mean by 'bandwagon', it's because recently I've seen a number of youtube gurus suddenly doing tons of blue tutorials. Not sure if it is a rising trend. In my defense, it wasn't really a conscious decision of mine to use blue eyeshadow. I just took the shadows out, applied them and before you know, here I am supporting the masses.

But anyway, here's the look.
Because I was rushing to head out the house I couldn't take shots of these with my camera so you'll have to make do with crappy mac photobooth quality photos. It wasn't a very complicated look. Just blue and blended, so the idea is there (:

Products Used:
FACE
- Silky Girl 02 Foundation
- Revlon Loose Powder (to set)

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Silky Girl Blockbuster palette in Smokey Charm (blue shade)
- Revlon Colorstay quad in Sultry Smoke
- Revlon Colorstay quad in Nude Elements (highlight shade)
- Rhomlon e/s in black
- 28 color palette
- MAC powerpoint liner in Engraved
- Covergirl Lash Blast

CHEEKS
- MAC Powder blush in Eversun
- ELF healthy glow bronzing powder in Luminance

LIPS
- NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
- Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Raisin Glaze

As for the outfit, i threw on a really simple and comfy attire.
I thought to wear a jacket since it was a rather chilly day out yesterday and because I was heading to the cinema, might as well.

Initially I had the jacket zipped up like so, but just before I left, I decided to leave it unzipped. Mainly because the jacket kept pulling my blouse up and also the blouse sticking out seemed a little odd. In the picture it looks fine but that's because I adjusted it and all. If I were to walk around for a little, it'll start to get weird.

Awkward posing ftw~

I need to get a full length mirror. Hitting the 'take a photo' button and running into position in 3 seconds is quite stressful. haha!

Breakdown of my attire:
Jacket - From EDC (this haul)
White blouse - Cotton On
Leggings - the one from Hong Kong (grey pair)
Shoes (not pictured) - Converse, the regular cream white pair.

My outfits seem rather standard. Jacket + Leggings.
If only Singapore were a litle colder, I so wouldn't mind that...
But that is all, it's time for me to start getting ready for school if I don't want to be late for class.
Afternoon classes are quite awesome cause you get to sleep in, yet it's so hard to peel yourself away from the comfort of home.

Thank you all so much for reading!

LOTD: Soft Moss Gold (+ outfit)

By icyabstract · December 24, 2009 · 8 Comments ·

The title makes me cringe a little, but I'm running out of ideas.

This was a look I wore to a semi-formal family gathering sometime before the intensive school finals. I say semi-formal because it was a little lunch occasion held sometime after my cousin's wedding. This was the look that I wore, something rather neutral but yet at the same time I wanted to experiment with a bit of green.

Products Used:
FACE
- Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer
- Silky Girl 02 Liquid Foundation
- Za Pressed Powder (to set)

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Light Gold Eyeshadow - don't remember what I used
- Majolica Majorca Palette in BR742 (Dark Moss Green)
- 28 Color Palette (medium warm brown - the one I always use, lol)
- Revlon Colorstay Quad in Nude Elements (highligh shade)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Cover Girl Lash Blast

CHEEKS
- Wet N Wild Bronzer
- LA Girl blush in Subtle
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

LIPS
- Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze in Unlimited Nectar

Attire-wise, my mom made it clear I wasn't to show up in just jeans and a t-shirt. (pfft)
Since the location wasn't held anywhere grand - it was at my cousin's house - I wore a simple sundress. It's a dress and that's presentable and I wasn't going to show up in an evening dress or anything, cause that would just be weird.

Also I ditched the extensions at the last minute and threw on a headband instead.
Here's a shot of what I wore, along with my darling nephew (cousin's kid) trying to do the peace sign.

I love that little bugger.

But yes that is it. Thanks for reading (:

LOTD: Sage & Gold

By icyabstract · December 5, 2009 · 15 Comments ·

First off, I really hate taking LOTDs at night because I just don't like how the colors would look compared to if I took it with natural lighting.
Thus, the photos I am going to feature aren't in the usual 'format', because it is harder to take those shots at night. So here is me making do with flash.

I just got back from a little workshop, which I will blog about in due time. I am not blogging about it now because I took about 300 photos and am not in the mood to sort those out right now. I have to compensate for loss time and get cracking on my school project. Thus, the entry about the workshop would most probably be up either tomorrow, or Sunday.

But here is the look I wore today.

And to make up for the lack of photos, here's a random one.
Also featuring my wardrobe 'collage', which I love. ha!

Products Used

FACE
- Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel (primer)
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Loose Powder (to set)

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- NYX Jumbo Pencil in Lemon (shadow base)
- Silky Girl Funky Eyelights in Gold (shadow base)
- Maybelline Eye Studio in Venice Carnival (gold color - inner corner)
- Silky Girl Eyeshadow Duo in xx (lime green - outer corner)
- Rhomlon Eyeshadow in Black (crease)
- 28 Color Palette (warm brown - blend over crease)
- 28 Color Palette (highlight shade)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Cover Girl Lash blast (oodles and oodles of it!)

CHEEKS
- NARS blush in Exhibit A
- NARS blush in Orgasm (over Exhibit A)
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance (highlight)

LIPS
- nothing on!
Well I did have stuff earlier in the day, but I don't have anything on in the photos as it wore off when I drank/ate etc.

For those who read through the products used list, you might be wondering as to why I had layered my NARS blushes.
Well I initially dusted on Exhibit A really lightly but even then it came on a little too 'red' for my liking, at least with this eyeshadow combination. So that is why I layered Orgasm over it, to make it a little peachier/pink-er and also to give it a sheen.

I am on a roll with LOTDs!
It seems that with doing colored looks I feel more motivated to do LOTD entries?
In the past where I mainly wore neutral looks, it just felt like all the looks ended up looking the same on camera. That's probably why I never bothered taking them as often.

A quick word about the workshop I had attended, for those wondering what it is about.
It is a Facial Remodeling workshop and it was basically demonstration and talk based? It wasn't so much for introducing a particular product but instead introducing a procedure. The topic touched on in the workshop might not be of interest to everyone as it is slightly related to cosmetic surgery.
I would say it was an interesting experience overall, and I do want to share it with you guys.
For now, here's a teaser photo (the only one I really bothered resizing!):

That's not me, by the way! (just in case someone thought so)

Thanks for reading!

Cousin's Wedding Dinner (look + outfit)

By icyabstract · November 30, 2009 · 22 Comments ·

I guess you could call this a Look of the Day entry, which is why it is filed in there, but I didn't quite want to title it that way.

Reason being, I just wanted to share with you all what I wore to my cousin's wedding dinner; Makeup, outfit and hair-wise. The eyeshadow combination I have on isn't totally 'brand new'. I had recycled this look from a past LOTD as I felt the colors seemed quite appropriate for the look I was going for. Which is why I think titling it LOTD could be like repeating myself? Regardless, I did alter the look a little by making the blue-ish hues in this eyeshadow combination a little stronger and also (I think) make the look more dramatic with the black.

(and I curled my hair! Went for loose curls so they are kind of 'messy' looking)

Products Used:
FACE/BASE:
- Kawaii Tokyo Herbal Forest Brighten-Up Gel (Moisturizer)
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
- Bobbi Brown Corrector (undereye)
- MAC Studio Finish Concealer (blemishes)
- Revlon Translucent Setting Powder

EYES:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Delft Paintpot
- Rhomlon Eyeshadow in Black
- 88 Color palette (silver in crease)
- 28 Color Palette (warm medium brown, blending out)
- Revlon Colorstay Mineral Eyeshadow in Sunlit Jade (highlight color)
- IN2IT Liquid liner in Caribbean
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone (lash primer)
- Lancome Fatale mascara

CHEEKS:
- MAC Solar Riche Bronzer
- MAC Cheeky Bronze MSF
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

LIPS:
- Canmake Lip Concealer in 01
- NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
- Sally Hanson Lip gloss (edited version)

The color palette for my outfit is basically black and white, so a couple of days ago I was thinking how to best introduce a little bit of color in this without ruining the monochromatic feel of it. Thus I decided to paint my nails a murky blue? I really can't describe the shade but it was done by layering a sheer sky blue polish over a black nail polish. So that basically inspired me to look back at that particular LOTD and to recreate it for the dinner.
Here's a shot of my nails and me just being goofy.

I know this sign means stuff in different 'areas' of the world, but really I don't mean to offend anyone.
It's just a reverse peace sign where we're at.

So I didn't manage to bring my camera along as it was just too bulky to lug around there and I really didn't need it, so the outfit shots below were taken with my parent's digi-cam.
The colors are rather off, blame it on the ambient lighting at the venue.

And one with the boyfriend.

So yes, I am dressed kind of semi-casual? I didn't want to take the typical prom approach on this, for some reason. At least to me this didn't feel like that much of a 'prom' look. I felt it was kind of boring to go to every dinner that way and since I am just a guest and not hosting or anything, I thought I could play around with my attire for a bit. I attempted to go for the slight cute-sy, I don't want to say doll, but just cute-sy approach yet still keeping it a little edgy(not quite the word, but something along those lines)? Let me know if I did well with that or not! haha.
By the way, this dress was actually the one I picked up at the Metro sale awhile ago.

This entry has gotten rather lengthy, for something as simple as showing my makeup look and outfit.
So that is all, and thanks for taking the time to read (:

LOTD: Nude Flambe

By icyabstract · August 29, 2009 · 15 Comments ·

Alas, I managed to find an opportunity to slap some makeup on.
Aside from having gone to school on Tuesday, I haven't actually managed to get out of the house and of course put some makeup on.

Today, I went to the movies to catch The Proposal with the boyfriend.
It was like a quick break from all that homework, and also a chance to finally try out some of the (makeup) items I have been meaning to!
If you follow me on twitter, you would know that my foundation looked a little blotchy when I got home, but thankfully these photos were taken before that mishap. I am not sure what 'went wrong' with the process but seeing as I am using three new products, I'll have to test them out individually to find out which does not work. I do hope it's not the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation.

Products Used:

FACE
- SANA Namerakahonpo UV Milk Lotion
- Maybelline UV Makeup base (purple)
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
- Za Complexion Powder (to set)
- MAC Solar Riche Bronzer
- MAC Style Demon blush (light application)
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder (highlight)

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Artifact Paintpot
- Revlon Colorstay Quad in Nude Elements - the color 3rd from top (all over lid)
- Lumiere Cosmetics Eye Pigment in Flambe (blend on crease and inner corner)
- 28 Color neutral palette - top right color (crease and outer-v)
- 28 Color neutral palette - random off-white shade (highlight)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone primer
- Lancome Fatale Mascara

LIPS
- Canmake Lip Concealer
- NYX Round lipstick in Circe (It seems that I use this all the time now)
- MAC Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks

Random statement: I love how my hair looks in the sun.

So narcissism aside, I have just realized how severe my obsession with plumish-cranberry neutral shades is.
It's almost ridiculous, I need to widen my color spectrum.

xo.
