Haul: Favorite Lash Glue (of the moment)

By icyabstract · June 24, 2012 · 5 Comments ·

Sunday! I always have mixed emotions about this day because on one hand you're so glad it's still a day off and on the other, the thought of work creeping back up just sits at the corner of your mind.

Regardless, I had a mind to sit down and post up some entries though errands ended up stealing me away and one of the errands involved stocking up on toiletries.

So what you get after a long tiring Sunday is this quick summary haul entry. Oops!

As the title goes, I dropped by Watsons today and amidst my toiletries, I also picked up my favorite lash glue of the moment.

Actually, saying this is my favorite is a wee bit off but previously I had purchased the clear version of this (because it was the only one available) and really liked how it worked.

Though after having used dark lash glue before, I much prefer it over the clear ones and simply had to pick up the dark variant of it once I saw it was available.

Plus it has a purple polka dot cover! Frivolous fun but such a cute combination.

With my previous purchase I paid no heed to the fact that apparently this contains rose and fruit extract to care for the sensitive skin on your eyelids.

What I like about this is the wand-applicator that it comes with because I almost always cause a mess using the squeeze tubes. Even if I manage to come out of a false lash application mess-free with those, they do take a lot of time and effort to 'aim and squeeze on'.

Thus, wand applicators are the way to go!

In my experience with this (both clear and one use of the dark one), these are like an inbetween of a former lash glue I used and the Shu Uemura one.

The Shu Uemura is really heavy duty, I find, and it's certainly something you don't have to worry about 'peeling' or falling off if applied right. Yet you can't just lazily peel it off at the end of the day too. Some have found it to be so adhesive it could cause some irritation to the lids with prolonged regular wear but that's just what I heard.

My former one was okay, usuable and similar to DUO in my experience but it does lift at the edges or sometimes in the middle after a long day. Nothing that threatens to make the lash fall but it does make you feel insecure.

So long story short, I find this really sticks and holds on yet you can choose to peel it off lazily at the end of the day too. You can feel it's adhesion but it's not so tight that it is uncomfortable.

Phew! What a long essay about lash glue comparisons and I'm hardly the right person to ask!

Forgot to mention, Dollywink's lash glue is S$18.95, if I remember correctly.

Aside from picking up this new love, here are the other toiletries I stocked up on at Watsons (my favorite place for toiletry shopping).

So.. just because I am curious...

What is your favorite eyelash glue to use? Do you prefer clear or dark?

Thanks for reading and hope everyone has a great work or school week ahead!

Random: Paper Lashes... on the lips?

By icyabstract · March 7, 2012 · 8 Comments ·

This would be the point where my love for kpop meets my love for makeup. It's definitely not uncommon to see makeup in kpop especially when guys are proudly parading around in it almost all the time, foundation, eyeliner and the works. Which, just for the record, I actually like. Yes, I think there's an appeal to guys wearing makeup, eyeliner especially.

My point being... while watching Big Bang's latest MV in all it's 1080p glory, I noticed this!

I know.. pretty whacky makeup on GD (guy pictured above) but that's not the point. When it came to a close up, I realized these fuzzy black lines aren't just... fuzzy black lines!

A slightly color-tweaked close up incase you still can't see it.

I felt they were quite familiar and searched the first thing that came to mind and the first image that popped up under the search of 'Paper lashes' is this.

Well, unless there are mocks in the exact same design running around, I'm pretty sure its the same thing. It's Paperself's paper lash in the design Small Horsie (ponies).

It's quite an interesting touch but for this design at least it's best admired from a pretty close distance else it will be, as what I first assumed it was, squiggly black lines. It's still a pretty cool take on these paper lashes and at least now I know if I ever need to spruce up a lip look more than what lipstick and gloss can offer, I can consider this whackiness. Though I would most likely think of Violent Lips first. I can imagine it would be uncomfortable doing any normal activity with these on, speaking included?

Now that I know what the actual design of it is... I'm sorry GD but your striped lip look isn't as bad-ass anymore. I mean, horsie. Really.

That aside, the above screen caps are from Big Bang's latest MV, Fantastic Baby which I think is honestly quite fantastic in terms of sights and visuals, if the song isn't your thing. As you know, or might not know, I love Big Bang and thus will praise everything they put out so I'm not touching on the music here.

Look-wise, here are some other pretty snazzy makeup looks from the music video, aside from the usual foundation + contour + thin eyeliner that most kpop guys don.

Not too obvious in the scaled down image above but TOP (guy in teal hair) has on a nice red-brown smokey eye going on, simple yet still something.

Can't help but comment this, I'm really loving GD's hair this time around (guy featured first). He pulls it off so well, I mean he pulls everything off well but this hair somehow channels some Davey Havok vibes, which might be why I like it so much...

Regardless, thanks for putting up with this random mention, till the next entry, here's the MV if you wish to give the song a listen.

That aside, Paperself (paper lashes) is available at Watsons and Sephora though I'm not sure if Horsie is available. Will have to go give that a look.

LOTD: Audi Fashion Fest Look (feat. Shu Uemura lashes)

By icyabstract · May 22, 2011 · 3 Comments ·

Hello all,

Just wanted to share the look I wore to the Audi Fashion Festival 2011 Shapes & Shadow show, that I had attended some time back.

I wanted to attempt a slightly smokier then usual look since it's not often that I can wear a dramatic smokey look and not feel 'too made up'.

I didn't manage to take any pictures of the look until I got back home at night, and I'm pretty surprised that my makeup still looked pretty good on even after 6 hours and blotting once. For that I will have to give credit to the Shu Uemura Mousse base, one of my favorite bases to use right now.

A nice surprise at the event was we were each given a pair of Shu Uemura lashes to spruce up our look for the night. I went with this pair and Sophia (retailtherapy) helped me put them on using Shu's lashglue (which has some crazy heavy duty hold!)

Shu Uemura - Partial Soft Cross lashes

We didn't use all the partial bits, instead we used a total of 4 pieces, 2 on the outer corner of each eye.

The effect was really natural but gave a nice emphasis to the lashes as well, I'm really liking how these lashes look on!

If anything, I must say I'm probably eyeing the Shu Uemura lash glue right now. The grip and hold of that thing is really no joke and for a false lash newbie like me, that would really put my mind at ease when wearing falsies out.

Thanks for reading!

Aloha falsies!

By icyabstract · November 26, 2008 · 2 Comments ·

Okay, so let me start by admitting that I am completely new to the world of false eyelashes as I've never really seen the need to use them.
Not that my lashes are immensely long or voluminous, but I guess I did not want to put myself into all that trouble of applying and removing false eyelashes etc.
But lately, I'd say that I've started growing curious to this whole false eyelash application thing as it does seem to give instant volume, which is something I've always been hoping to achieve. And in this holiday season, it's always good to throw in some funkiness to your looks with bejewelled lashes or even multi-colored ones!

So with that, I've decided to search up reputable eye lash glues first as the key to having gorgeous looking lashes, is to first have them stay on!
After reading through reviews and watching videos on certain glues and all, I've come to conclusion that the Duo Eyelash Adhesive seems like a pretty good product.

On top of that, it's sold in Sasa (a cosmetic boutique in Singapore), and I've got about $30 worth of Sasa vouchers to use before July next year so I was definitely excited at that prospect.
However I do want to hear your opinions on eyelash glue/false eyelashes in general and whether it's a good thing to start or not as I've heard some people mention that once you start using falsies, it's almost like an addiction and you'll get hooked.
I've also heard that it's damaging to your own natural lashes and all that.... so what are your views on it be it from what you've heard or experience.

Should I take the plunge into the world of false eyelashes?
Is Duo lash adhesive good?
And what sort of falsies are good value for money out there in the market?

Phew, that was a lot of questions wasn't it.
Take care and thanks for reading! (:
