LOTD: A Pink Eye and Red Outfit (feat. Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink)

By icyabstract · March 10, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

Do pardon the lame title but for some reason words are escaping me these days. It takes me twice as long to draft out anything and in some cases I do the cycle of writing and deleting for a good half an hour before deciding to give it a shot at another time.

Blogger's block? Maybe.

Perhaps I need to get back into the swing of things again for the words to flow better.

Regardless, this LOTD was from a while ago and I had totally forgotten about them till I was going through my folders once more.

I am not exactly a fan of having pink on the eyes because it runs the risk of appearing like a sore eye or just sorely off if not done right, blended right etc.

Maybe I am worrying too much but I don't think I am alone with my concerns about this color!

Though with the Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink on hand, I decided to give it a whirl (with the pink that I have been avoiding for awhile) and this is what I ended up with!

I used all the shades from the palette for this look, though some in moderation and some more apparent than others.

  • I swept the light pink tone all over the lids, below the crease
  • Carefully, I applied the stronger pink in the outer-v, blending into the crease
  • To tone down the pink, I used the warm medium brown on the outer-corners, adding a bit of depth. I also used this to blend just above the crease.
  • For more definition, I dabbed the darkest chocolate right at the outer corner.
  • Lastly I used the bone shade as a brow bone highlight

Here are the shades for reference:

Call me unadventurous but aside from this look, I haven't got the guts (and time) to experiment with other ways to wear this pink.

Though with that said, I do find this look rather lovely; it is soft, sweet and emits a lovely vibe of spring (which is almost over?).

It takes some blending and stepping back to ensure that it all looks fine but I think the end-product isn't too bad! I would wear this look again if I feel in the mood for some springtime warm pink nuances!

Here's the rest of the face:

For my lips, I used Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited in Dark Beige, also from the Blossom Dream collection. While it looks and swatches (on my hand) as a beige tone, I was surprised that it pulls pink once on my lips.

It is still a lovely color nonetheless, just not as nude or neutral as I had expected.

So that's the pink eye and here is the red outfit!

It is a pity I did not get to showcase this dress earlier because I do love it a lot. It is a piece from MyMannequin.sg, an online blogshop that is now closed.

I don't normally like to wear long dresses because I feel that unless it is of a strategic length, it makes me look shorter but this dress is so flowy, bold and lovely that I have been spotted quite a few times in it! It doesn't help that most of my wardrobe over here consists mostly of maternity wear.

I really should 'import' my wardrobe here. As my mom says, it still feels like I live at home-home with all my clothes present.

And that's about it for this lovely weekend! Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Thanks for reading and I hope to put up some stuff soon! I have loads in mind to share!

LOTD: Some Summer In My 'Sand'

By icyabstract · July 22, 2012 · 1 Comment ·

While I spent my time working the weekend away, it was considerably 'fun-work' and something I wish my day-to-day work life was!

As much as it is work, it is still the weekends so I thought to inject a little color into my usual brown palette and this was what I ended up with on Saturday!

Because of the blue, coral and gold tones, this look ended up giving off an extremely summery vibe. While news of Fall collections are seeping out from everywhere, I believe it is still summer so I guess this is... living in the moment?

Just because the images above don't really capture the golden sheen these shadows carry, here are more close up shots of my eye.

Don't get freaked out!

The masterminds behind this glorious golden sheen would be none other than these long-forgotten Majolica Majorca single shadows (along with a MUA Cosmetics one)!

(names are listed below)

I know I am throwing loads of bits and pieces within this entry, making it quite scattered, but I also using and LOVING a new mascara - the Helena Rubinstein Lash Feline (waterproof).

My Dollywink Volume gave its last breathe sometime last week and since I had the Helena Rubinstein on hand, I decided to give it a whirl and did not regret it one single bit. It's more lengthening than volumizing but it does both equally well and makes it look like I have lashes and 'opens up my eyes'!

I shall continue my thoughts on it in a seperate entry after giving it more uses but for now... (insert mandatory Mcdonalds reference) - I'm loving it!

I had also snapped some quick shots of my look on today but that shall be for another entry! It features an item I had recently acquired and am currently loving, too.

Why does it seem like I am loving so many things right now?

Though just for fun, I did post up this snapshot on my instagram!

Nonetheless, I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Loads to post up yet not enough brain cells to churn out posts but I'm definitely working at it! I am, afterall, excited when I get to ramble talk beauty on here!

Thanks for reading!

Haul: Finally, from DFS

By icyabstract · June 15, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Finally!

In context #1, I finally have time to draft up a mention of these items and in context #2, I FINALLY got my hands on these products!

I have only dropped by the newly revamped DFS space twice of late. Once for the tour and Beauty Concierge service and another time when I was in the area with Eliza (and totally enabled each other). Both trips have been fruitful in a modest way and I haven't been able to leave DFS empty-handed.

Sadly now I can hardly even find time to head to Orchard, much less that part of town.

But lets not dwell on the sad reality of life and lets take a look at these items!

Needless to say, the Giorgio Armani counter was wiped out and while I had a mini list of items I wanted, most (if not all) were out of stock in my shade / preference. Talk about in-demand!

Initially I was interested in the Designer Lift Liquid Foundation, and I still am, but I hardly wear liquid foundation these days so I held off on that. Instead, I picked up their popular Eyes to Kill in the shade 10.

This looks gorgeous in the pot with flecks of silver, pale-gold and of course the eye-catching shots of teal.

I had seen photos of this online and fell in love with it, bookmarking it as one of the shades I must check out in person. In truth, this doesn't swatch too unique but yet is a simple shade and captivating in it's own soft way.

Glistening mostly silver, it does lean icy blue in certain angles and light.

There were other bolder shades, like this lovely blue shot through with gold (#1) but I figured I should start with something I would be likely to reach for more.

The next item I picked up was something I was first introduced to by Sarah Chaudhry. I remember her professing her love for Helena Rubinstein mascaras in a blog entry awhile ago and that just stuck with me ever since.

Funny thing is, everytime I go by the airport I always forget to check out and browse the HR shelves and so it's only now that I manage to get my hands on it!

I haven't tried it out (for myself) but the Makeup Artist did use it during my make-over session and it looked promising on. She applied a thinner coat than I usually do for myself, with a different technique so it took on a more lenghtening effect but I have seen some 'eyelash-swatches' and it looks rather volumizing too.

My Dollywink Volume Mascara is currently on it's last leg so I shall wait for that to completely die out before I open this one!

Soon. I shall try this out real soon!

A simple entry and I apologize for the lack if this space has been a little dull of late! Well, as always I say soon but it really has been one busy hell of a week, as you may have seen from my twitter complaints. Oops.

Thanks for sticking around and I'll be back to share more as soon as I am over this hump of busy. Have a good weekend everyone!

Have you dropped by DFS and hauled anything?
