LOTD: True Blue Pop of Color

By icyabstract · March 29, 2013 · 2 Comments ·

Hello long weekend! I am taking advantage of this added break to throw up some entries because I foresee myself being rather caught up with work in the week(s?) to come.

After 4 months away from work, what was I expecting right?

Regardless, here's the LOTD that I gave a quick sneap peek too in my recent rambly entry.

I was quite excited to wear and also photograph this look due to the intensity of the liner hence do pardon the eye spam that might follow!

Well, the title is a tad misleading because the blue here isn't a 'true blue'.

Instead it is a bright cornflower blue and most definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Though on second thought, maybe it would be suited as a pop of color for those who don't otherwise like to use color in their eyeshadow choices.

While intimidating to some because of the intensity, I feel that this dose of color is not hard to pull off at all.

The stroke of cornflower blue comes from Mirenesse's Inside Out 27H Eye Kohl in Khnum, as mentioned and swatched here.

I had previously used the Eye Kohl in Atum, also from Mirenesse, and here is another from the brand because I do enjoy using them through this eyeliner-obsessed phase of mine.

For this look, I kept the rest of the lid relatively neutral and kept Khnum the centre of attraction.

Not that it needs any help with that!

While Khnum is an intense shade, I felt like I needed a bit of definition to balance my eye look out so it doesn't look like something avant garde and straight off the runway.

If you are a little more experimental, you may be able to pull off using this as an eyeliner alone!

Though regardless, I feel this works wonderfully (and perfectly well) as an accent liner and it would most likely be how I would be using it.

I did warn you about the eye spam!

With a dash of something so vibrant on my eyes, I kept the rest of my face rather toned down and soft so I don't look too done up. After all, this look was for a simple and casual night out with the hubs.

I took this opportunity to try out one of the new Dior Addict gloss (from Dior's upcoming huge gloss collection) in Beige Songe.

While it appeared promising in the tube, it did go on rather colorless though there was a lovely shimmer and a nice glossy shine. The end result is a very natural effect though thanks to the glossed look, it does give my lips some dimension from a distance.

By now I think that you would all be pretty bored of my face but here's a last look at how the liner fared after 6 hours of wear.

After 6 hours it was still going strong without a fade in intensity or any smudging going on. Though some credit should also be given to NARS's Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base as well!

I think bold colored or glittery liners are a great way to spice up your eye looks when you don't have the time or want to fuss with shadows. Those who steer clear from colored shadows can give the accent liner method a go.

Don't say I didn't warn you, it may just change your (makeup) life!

All that aside, my hair has gotten to the point where I totally dread how it looks, feels and how tough it is to maintain it. It is incredibly heavy, given the length of all the layers now and baby apparently thinks it's a new toy that hangs down from mommy so she grabs and tugs at every opportunity she gets.

Thus! My hair would be facing some changes over this long weekend and I simply can't wait.

I haven't decided what I would like to do with it but I am leaning towards getting it chopped off and trying a refreshingly short length for the new year (a bit late for the 'new year') though I am quite attached to the length of my hair.

I guess we shall see!

Thanks for reading and hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

LOTD: Neutrals with Sparkle (feat. Dior & Mirenesse)

By icyabstract · March 21, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

Hello again!

I started off this LOTD with a mind to pull together something Dior-ish but after ransacking my stash, I gave up on that theme due to my lack of Dior in other departments such as eyeliner, loose powder etc.

Instead, I would just call this yet another simple ole neutral. Simple but with a bit of a twist.

Some of the products that I wish to give mention to in this LOTD would be Dior's 5 Couleur palette in Frost Bloom and also Mirenesse's Inside Out 27H Eye Kohl in Atum. Both of which I had given mention to fairly recently.

While the look appears to be the usual neutral, well, who am I kidding it is a neutral regardless! Though let me break it down for you a little and hopefully give the look more 'insight'.

p.s. that 'line' on my nose is a strand of hair, not some weird contouring going on.

The Eye Look –

I first applied MAC's Groundwork paintpot all over the lids and just over the crease (resulting in that warm brown over the crease), followed by Dior's 5 Couleur Palette in Frost Bloom over the inner corner.

Following that, I applied MAC's Henna eyeshadow (limited edition) over the centre and a blend of Stila In the Garden's Moss and Juniper for definition on the outer-corner.

To add just a bit more sparkle to compliment the gold bits in MAC's Henna, I lined my upper lids with Mirenesse's Atum – the beautiful black liner strewn with gold pearls incase you forgot.

The golden pearly glint from Mirenesse's Atum spices up the look in a subtle way. It isn't overly noticeable but can be seen when it catches the light. It's quite lovely!

I know, enough of my eye already but I am uploading this last one because you can actually spy a little of that pearly green-blue tones from the light Dior shade.

On the rest of the face, I kept it warm and coral-y with MAC's Warmth of Coral on the cheeks and Shy Girl (also from MAC) lipstick on the lips.

Products Used:

BROWS / FACE
K Palette Brow Liquid in 01
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77
Biore UV Aquarich Watery Essence SPF 50 PA+++ (silver tube)
Diorskin Nude Liquid Foundation
NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder
MAC Bronzer

EYES
NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base
MAC Groundwork Paintpot
Dior 5 Couleur in Frost Bloom 334 (top right shade)
MAC Eyeshadow in Henna
Stila In The Garden palette (Moss and Juniper)
Mirenesse Eye Kohl in Atum
MAC Powerpoint Pencil in Engraved
Helena Rubinstein Lash Queen Feline (Waterproof)

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralzed Blush in Warmth of Coral

LIPS
MAC Lipstick in Shy Girl

And here's another quick LOTD update from me!

While I think the whole ombre hair trend is a little over done, I am actually quite grateful for it because with that around I can pass off my horribly outgrown-and-in-need-of-expert-hands hair as some form of an ombre. ha!

That isn't just my opinion and I have actually gotten some questions from friends regarding that, if I had DIY-ed it or had it done at a salon. Heh.

Though truth is truth, it is overgrown and I will have to do something about it soon. I am making up my mind about whether I should chop it off and try going short (my definition of short is not pixie) or just layer and keep the precious length.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks for reading!

LOTD: A Pink Eye and Red Outfit (feat. Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink)

By icyabstract · March 10, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

Do pardon the lame title but for some reason words are escaping me these days. It takes me twice as long to draft out anything and in some cases I do the cycle of writing and deleting for a good half an hour before deciding to give it a shot at another time.

Blogger's block? Maybe.

Perhaps I need to get back into the swing of things again for the words to flow better.

Regardless, this LOTD was from a while ago and I had totally forgotten about them till I was going through my folders once more.

I am not exactly a fan of having pink on the eyes because it runs the risk of appearing like a sore eye or just sorely off if not done right, blended right etc.

Maybe I am worrying too much but I don't think I am alone with my concerns about this color!

Though with the Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink on hand, I decided to give it a whirl (with the pink that I have been avoiding for awhile) and this is what I ended up with!

I used all the shades from the palette for this look, though some in moderation and some more apparent than others.

  • I swept the light pink tone all over the lids, below the crease
  • Carefully, I applied the stronger pink in the outer-v, blending into the crease
  • To tone down the pink, I used the warm medium brown on the outer-corners, adding a bit of depth. I also used this to blend just above the crease.
  • For more definition, I dabbed the darkest chocolate right at the outer corner.
  • Lastly I used the bone shade as a brow bone highlight

Here are the shades for reference:

Call me unadventurous but aside from this look, I haven't got the guts (and time) to experiment with other ways to wear this pink.

Though with that said, I do find this look rather lovely; it is soft, sweet and emits a lovely vibe of spring (which is almost over?).

It takes some blending and stepping back to ensure that it all looks fine but I think the end-product isn't too bad! I would wear this look again if I feel in the mood for some springtime warm pink nuances!

Here's the rest of the face:

For my lips, I used Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited in Dark Beige, also from the Blossom Dream collection. While it looks and swatches (on my hand) as a beige tone, I was surprised that it pulls pink once on my lips.

It is still a lovely color nonetheless, just not as nude or neutral as I had expected.

- Maquillage Brow Wax in 77

So that's the pink eye and here is the red outfit!

It is a pity I did not get to showcase this dress earlier because I do love it a lot. It is a piece from MyMannequin.sg, an online blogshop that is now closed.

I don't normally like to wear long dresses because I feel that unless it is of a strategic length, it makes me look shorter but this dress is so flowy, bold and lovely that I have been spotted quite a few times in it! It doesn't help that most of my wardrobe over here consists mostly of maternity wear.

I really should 'import' my wardrobe here. As my mom says, it still feels like I live at home-home with all my clothes present.

And that's about it for this lovely weekend! Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Thanks for reading and I hope to put up some stuff soon! I have loads in mind to share!

LOTD-ish: Lunar New Year's Go-to Products

By icyabstract · February 13, 2013 · 9 Comments ·

Hello!

Hope that everyone had a great Lunar New Year thus far with visitings, eating and catching up with relatives! For those who don't celebrate it, hopefully the few days of rest was a good recharge!

With past years' New Year celebrations, I would embrace doling up by rummaging my wardrobe for dresses to wear, coupled with heels and all that fun stuff. Followed by enthusiastically bugging the boy to snap my outfits. After all, this is the season to don new or fancy attire and fit right in!

Though this year I had to slack on the whole prepping and go for outfits that are, while new and presentable, practical for baby-carrying and all sorts of baby mess too.

Aside from the attire, I had to be lightning quick with my makeup routine as well, else it would be so far into the day by the time we head out for visitings!

Thus, I thought I would share my go-to products this festive season for a very quick and polished look that lasts well through the day and into the night!

The look that I put together with the above aren't dramatic or overly fancy. In fact, it's such a quick look that some may classify it as an 'everyday look', as opposed to one for an occasion.

But hey, it works for me and my time constraints now so I'm happy with it either ways!

THE FACE ––

For the face, I have been loving Benefit's Porefessional as a base because it smooths out my currently dry skin, giving me the appearance of a flawless complexion.

I have also revived my love for BB creams through this Elisha Coy Nuddy BB 24 BB Cream. I love it so much that I am on the hunt to get the full size for this (the one I have is from a set of 3). Does anyone know where we can get Elisha Coy locally?

After correcting and concealing (0kuma Under Eye Concealer & Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage) , I set it all with my usual LUV Carat Loose Powder along with a dusting of MAC's Mineralized Skinfinish in Medium for some glow. I can't use the MSF alone as its a touch too light and with a heavier hand, it shows.

THE EYES ––

For the eyes, I'll skip the ramble since it is simple and straight-forward but after priming with NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, I use MUFE's Aqua Shadow in 28E for a lovely shine on the lids. Adding some glitz, I dab the sparkly shadow from Dior's 3 Couleur in Nude Glow and finish off with a light crease definition from MAC's Mineralized eyeshadow in Earthly.

Everything else is the usual eyeliner with CLIO Professional Brush Liner and MAC's Powerpoint Liner in Engraved.

Here's a 'step-by-step' visual, for the fun of, though the addition of some glitz with Dior's Nude Glow isn't that visible in pictures.

THE REST  ––

The pop of color I included is done through MAC'S mineralized blush in Merrily and Clinique's Almost Lipstick in Luscious Honey. A quick throwback but I was also using and loving that same lipstick last Lunar New Year!

And an unmentioned yet important thing would be brows, done with K-Palette's Liquid Brow Liner and Maquillage's Brow Wax in 77.

THE LOOK!  ––

So, here's the finished look!

And a blurred eye shot just to showcase the glittery bits from Dior's Nude Glow, which is more visible in person and not translating well in pictures.

Pardon my very blah and un-maintained flat hair. I need to do something about it but I haven't figured out what to do about it or find time to get it fixed too.

Again, the look isn't much but it is good enough to hide my sleep-deprived eyes while looking somewhat fresh for the new year!

After all, I am hardly the spotlight this year. Not that I mind but my cousin humorously commented that even if I showed up in sweats, people would hardly notice since the baby is all they see. Haha!

A random inclusion but if you have noticed, I have been wearing my glasses a lot of late. In fact, I haven't worn contacts since October last year!

The reason these days is because my contacts are monthlies and festivities aside, I have no reason (and time) to doll up much the rest of the month. Though I really do miss the whole full scale makeup look with coats of mascara and all!

But oh well, I'll get to do that sometime in future... When I get more time (and sleep! Cause I hate wearing contacts with tired eyes).

Or does anyone have recommendations on opticians that have dailies for astigmatism? My optician, sadly, doesn't carry those.

Either ways, hope everyone has a great CNY and thanks for reading!

Look Feature: CLIO Professional Art Collection

By icyabstract · December 26, 2012 · 4 Comments ·

Hello everyone! Long time no LOTD!

Okay, lame phrase but it is truth and I personally haven't worn makeup in a long long time so this is revisiting an older look I had done (okay, not that old, end-november) and didn't get to mention.

After snapping shots of the goodies I got with CLIO Professional's mail, I had all the items out on the vanity and was heading out so I figured, why not try to do a look using all these items!

After all, there was a good variety and it had most of everything covered – eyes, lips, cheeks etc!

For my eyes, of course I went the neutral route, no surprise here!

The Art Shadow Trio that I received does contain two fairly light pearly tones and one charcoal black so it was either soft definition or drama-mama and I wasn't sure I wanted to go the drama way for a quick errand-running day out.

Here's how I used the shades:
I swept the light gold tone all over my lids and actually 'cheated' a little, sweeping a mid-tone brown from another palette to my outer-corner for slight gradiation. I used the pearly-pink shade under my browbone as a highlight and the charcoal black lightly as a definition at the outer-v.

Since I was keeping it light, I tried not to sweep much or hardly any charcoal shade to the crease, keeping the lids 'clean'.

I also used the Turnliner Twisturn in Urban Black for this look.

I quite like how intense and dark it goes on and being a liquid liner, it was an ease to apply.

Though do note that this turnliner does not require a zillion twists before the product is dispensed hence the first time I used it I probably twisted too much out. Oops.

So here's the rest of the look with the Art Blusher, Art Lipstick and Art Lipgloss:

Products Used:

BROW / FACE
K Palette Liquid Brow Liner in 01
Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF 50 PA+++
KATE Cosmetics Powderless Liquid Foundation
LUV Carat Loose Face Powder (to set)

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
CLIO Professional Art Shadow in Forte Gold Black 416
Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Autumn Spirit (light dab on outer corner)
CLIO Professional Waterproof Turnliner Twisturn in Urban Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved

CHEEKS
CLIO Professional Art Blusher in Peach 1

LIPS
CLIO Professional Art Lipstick in Grace Pink
CLIO Professional Art Lipgloss in Glow Orange

I found the Art Lipstick a little too much of a light pink on me, making it seem quite stark for a neutral everyday look but with the gloss over (to tone down the pink-ness), it ended up being a rather pretty combination!

Needless to say, my favorite of the lot would certainly be the blusher. It's the perfect sort of color I would throw on when I have no idea what to use be it on casual or dressy days.

So I believe the next LOTD post wouldn't come anytime too soon so... hope you don't miss seeing my face on here. ha!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas celebration and here's wishing everyone an advanced HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Fun Stuff — Silver and Gold Makeup Looks (with Poh Heng X Minnie Mouse Limited Edition)

By icyabstract · November 30, 2012 · 4 Comments ·

Oops, excuse the long title but here's another installment from the series of Poh Heng x Minnie Mouse Limited Edition. Though don't steer away if you have seen enough of that mention in the past 2 entries because here comes the fun part...

After being thorough with the official press information and quick feature of the Poh Heng x Minnie Mouse Limited Edition Collection, I thought I would take a break from all that and do what this blog was created to go on and on about – makeup!

Just to clarify, it isn't that the pendants are not fun but rather the 'fun' in this is just for my sake. Where I get to harness a wee bit of makeup creativity, which I haven't done in forever, and pull some looks together based on what I have gathered from these pendants. It's somewhat like college projects all over again with a little thinking and some 'hands-on' involved.

Taking a rather predictable route, since I had a 22K Yellow Gold pendant and a 18K White Gold pendant (partially referred to as silver in this entry because of color but the pendant isn't made of silver), I figured why not do makeup looks with these 2 shades!

I could do the runway-rage version which is sweep a gold / silver eyeshadow all over my lid with either zero brows or super dark brows (think Chanel S/S 2013 Runway Makeup?) but I don't think my features suit editorial / high fashion looks without looking queer. Plus, I wanted to play around and brush up on bolder looks, hence this!

While they are on the drama or 'heavier' side of looks, I wouldn't say they are completely unwearable either! Especially with festive parties coming right up, these could be fun to wear for a dressed up and glammed up occasion!

Because I want to keep this faintly artistic, I am doing all the rambling right now and the following will (as much as possible) be pictorials!

I shall let the pictures, and some words, do the talking!

(for all images - click to enlarge!)

I had a plan to mimic the different finishes on the pendant – the matte finish along with the sparkly diamonds. While the silvers swatched with obviously different finishes above, sadly, on the eyes the difference in texture and sparkle wasn't that discernible.

Thus, for the look while I wanted to keep it silver-focussed, I injected a bit of blue (on the very outer edge) just to give it a little something.

Without further ado, here's the silver / white gold look.

Since there is so much silver-bling going on on the eyes, I kept the rest of the face matte and shine-free with Diorskin's Nude Liquid Foundation though I did dab on a slight sheen with MAC's Mineralized Blush in Ring of Saturn for a lightly flushed look.

Since silver eyes are quite a 'light look', I went with a red tone on the lips using Dior Addict's Ultra Gloss in 774 Ceremony Red. It's a lovely hint of red without being too bold and intense.

Here's the full look along with the Minnie Stellar Petite pendant!

Incase you are interested, on my eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion, Make Up For Ever Aqua Shadow in 32E, MAC Mineralized Eyeshadow in Bright Moon (for the 'matte silver'), Shu Uemura Eyeshadow in G Silver (for the 'bling-silver'), Majolica Majorca Palette in BR742, Shu Uemura Eyeshadow in ME Medium Blue 686, Sleek Palette in Storm, Clio Professional Brush Liner in Black, Giorgio Armani Waterproof Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in Black, Helena Rubenstein Lash Feline Waterproof, Random Falsies.

And that is the Silver / White Gold look down! Moving on, I have a Yellow Gold pendant to showcase and yes, you guessed it right, this calls for a Gold look!

This look is a whole lot more straight forward and I figured for such a classic thing like Minnie Mouse and a Rose, why not go for the classic Black and Gold combination!

If you follow my looks, you would know I don't exactly fancy working with a huge amount of black or dark eyeshadows because they tend to be messy and leave me prone to making a smokey mess. Though with this, I really tried to keep the lines clean and the look well blended.

Overall, I am glad with how it turned out and though it looks simpler than the Silver / White Gold look, it actually look me longer to do!

The eyelook made me feel so festive I decided to go with a glowy complexion using Make Up For Ever's HD Liquid Foundation along with a light dusting of ELF's Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance. To stick with the golden luminance, I used Sleek's Powder Blush in Rose Gold.

For the lips, since the eyes are so bold, I kept it neutral (yet not dead nude) with Diorific Lipstick in Diorling. A complete coincidence but I realized that in both looks I used items from Dior's Grand Bal Holiday 2012 collection.

And here's the finished look with the Rose pendant!

And for this look, on my eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion, Burberry Eye Definer in Midnight Back (outer-edge outline), Majolica Majorca Frozen Splash Eyes in GD821, Maybelline Eye Studio Quad in Venice Carnival, Everyday Minerals Loose Eyeshadow in Gold medal, Rhomlon Eyeshadow in Black, Sleek Palette in Storm, Clio Professional Pen Liner in Black, Giorgio Armani Waterproof Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in Black, Helena Rubenstein Lash Feline Waterproof, Random False Lashes, Dollywink No. 4 Feminine Style False Lashes

Since there was so much black going on, I had to layer my falsies to better frame my eyes and chose to stick on Dollywink's No. 4 Feminie Style for added length and wispiness.

On the left you see the 'Random Lash' and Dollywink No 4 separately and on the right, how it looks when layered.

Alrightey, so those are the 2 looks – a silver for 18K White Gold and a gold for 22K Yellow Gold!

Since I mentioned that these pendants are versatile and can be worn as a necklace or double up as a bracelet charm, here's a random shot featuring both the pendants (Minnie Stellar Petitie and Rose) worn as bracelet charms!

And if you aren't already sick of my face through this long post, you can hop over to Poh Heng's Minnie Mouse Limited Edition page and catch me there too!

Clickity Click!

While you're there, why not do a personality quiz and find out which Minnie Mouse Limited Edition pendant you are most suited for?

You may just be the daily winner of the Limited Edition Minnie Tote Bag or be super lucky and even walk away with the pendant you are matched to!

So.... phew! What a long entry this has been!

It was certainly one I was quite excited about because of the fun I had while doing up these looks. From thinking what sort of dramatic looks to pull, to putting it together and chosing pictures after! I am certainly no professional in makeup and my slew of neutral looks have left me slightly rusty so I hope these don't look too bad!

And most of all I hope you had as much fun scrolling through this entry as I had putting it together!

Thanks so much for reading and looking!

LOTD: Finally, more slap on — MAC's Idol Eyes

By icyabstract · November 14, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

After what had been an incredibly long weekend (I was on leave on Monday too!), I definitely feel more rejuvenated now but... I must admit, it did take a bit of feet dragging to get myself to work.

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing?

Either ways, I welcomed this break and even found some time to put on a wee bit more makeup than I usually do, which resulted in this LOTD! One reason for ditching the no-makeup look is because the boy's dad's birthday happened during the weekend so there were some dinners, celebrations and... a surprise staycation!

But anyway, here's what I had on my face:

I took this chance to rummage through some of my older palettes and rediscovered MAC's Idol Eyes which is a beautiful icy silver purple tone that isn't over the top yet has a pretty sparkle.

Okay, enough of me spamming eye shots to get across my point of how beautiful the color is.

For blush I revisited MAC's Hang Loose, a pale cool pink mineralized blush. This imparts a soft glow to my complexion but due to it being rather light in tone, it doesn't put down a whole lot of color, which is perfect for what I want.

Random side-note, I have been getting the hang of wearing a necklace again by bringing Poh Heng's Minnie Stellar Petite pendant out and about. Though more of that in another entry.

Products Used:

BROW / FACE
Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF 50 PA +++
Benefit Porefessional
Dior Diorskin Nude liquid foundation
LUV Carat loose face powder (to set)

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Kate real create eyes in GN-1 (sticky base)
MAC eyeshadow in Idol Eyes
Majolica Majorca palette in BR741 (taupe and dark brown)
CLIO Professional pen liquid liner in black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Helena Rubenstein Lash Feline Waterproof (light coat)

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralized Blush in Hang Loose

LIPS
Estee Lauder lipstick in Bali Rose

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

So that wraps up the look!

Incase anyone is interested, here's ending the entry off with some shots of the hotel and weekend happenings, as seen from my instagram!

Hope everyone had a nice break over the past couple of days!

I had a little fun getting somewhat creative with makeup over my long break (nope, not talking about this entry), though I don't mean body painting and all that high-level stuff. Just... as creative as it gets opposed to my usual brows and foundation routine (which doesn't take much creativity!).

I can't wait to share but all will be revealed in due time! I don't want to do that whole mysterious thing but I'm pretty stoked about it, hence dropping a mention ;)

Thanks for reading!

Rambly LOTD: From the Makeup Pouch

By icyabstract · October 27, 2012 · 4 Comments ·

Hello everyone!

Haven't posted any LOTD mentions or popped my face on here in awhile so I thought I would do a rambly 'little' entry with... well, no clear purpose!

It is also partially because I was trying to entertain myself and drafted part of this this up while sitting at the boy's office yesterday, along with snapping the pictures! Long story short, we were out and about when the boy got called in to help out with some last minute design changes etc, those in design... you know, clients.

Anyway, I spent Thursday night back at home-home and since it was an impromptu decision, I didn't bring or pack anything extra.

When it comes to cleansers, moisturizers, clothes and whatnot, thankfully I have those readily available there but when it came time to slap on some makeup before heading out, I had to rely on what I could dig out from my usual makeup pouch.

It's a mad simple look because I don't bring all that much around with me, just enough to touch up the bare minimal - brows, foundation (no concealer even!), liner and lips.

Though in truth this has been how I have been loving my makeup looks lately – simple, put-together and fresh. It could be fresher with some under eye concealer and maybe blush but oh well, we make do...

Plus, my skin has been on a good streak of late so I like the idea of lighter foundations (powder, mainly) to allow the skin to peek through as opposed to packing layers on and 'masking' it. Though I still reach for some liquids and bb creams when I feel like switching around.

Here's what was used and the whole look took me less than 5 minutes:

  • Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF50 PA+++ (which is nearing its end!)
  • MAC Brow Crayon in Flirt
  • K-Palette Real Lasting Eye Pencil (not my absolute fav, but it's decent so I carry it around for touch ups)
  • Shu Uemura Lipgloss in Corona Orange
  • MAC Studio Fix Powder

I don't know if I am having a case of post-haircut-remorse but I somewhat miss my long no-bangs look. Or at least I miss how it looks over in this LOTD entry.

Perhaps I had gotten used to how quick and easy the no-bangs look is that with side-swept ones now, I feel they can be a little fluffy, messy and hard to work with sometimes but oh well... I am sure I will get used to these side-swept bangs again soon.

In my boredom (at the boy's office), I had also snapped shots of other stuff I carry around in my makeup pouch but I'll put that up in a quick entry to follow, just so this isn't too rambly!

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend thus far!

Mine started real great and aside from getting some errands and necessary trips out of the way, I definitely had a great time having a tomyam steamboat session with the fam back on Thursday.

Well, the fam consisting of my brother and mom since my dad was on a work trip abroad and the boy was ot-ing. Though don't pity him too much, he had a sumptuous Korean dinner at work. Ha!

I can't wait for a trip to the airport on Sunday to pick my dad up.

I have no idea why but a part of me just loves going to the airport, strolling around, sitting about and all. How about you?

Have a great long weekend everyone and thanks for reading!

Look Feature: Neutrals with Dior 3 Couleur in Nude Glow

By icyabstract · October 8, 2012 · 5 Comments ·

Hello!

Earlier in my quick feature about Dior's 3 Couleur palettes, particularly the one in Nude Glow which I had received, I mentioned I would post up some snap shots of how I wear it and how it works so here it is!

The 3 Couleurs are designed to be quick and handy for daily use. You wouldn't find overly strong tones or see a shot at complex looks with these. Not to say that you can't try, but the idea of them is for everyday use.

Across the 4 colors available, the 3 Couleur shadows provide a gentle wash of color on the lid with the option of some dimensional shimmer. There is also an inclusion of a matte black for a soft touch of definition.

Here's a look at how I have been using the Dior 3 Couleur in Nude Glow.

What I do:

  • First, using an eyeshadow brush I apply the creamy brown shade (left on palette) all over the lid, blending it just into the crease.
  • Next, using my ring finger or the fatter sponge-tip provided, I dab the golden shimmers (right on palette) over the center of my lid and under my brow bone.
  • After lining my eyes thinly with a liquid liner, I then dip the finer sponge-tip in the black shadow and go over the liner, blending it out a little. This gives a subtle 'smoked liner' sort of definition.

The finished eye look is super simple to do and since I do it on a daily basis, with glasses and without the fuss of mascara, the whole eye process takes me less than 5 minutes to complete!

Yet the soft smokey black eyeshadow gives the eyes enough definition that it isn't harsh yet not overly bare as well. The fine gold reflects also help to brighten the eye area despite the simple wash of color on the lid.

Here's the complete face look with my recent favorite blush and lip combo:

I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

Incase you are wondering, the fav-o cheek and lip phase I am going through now would be the recently mentioned Diorific Lipstick in 340 Diorling paired with Sleek's Powder Blush in Rose Gold.

The 2 shades seem so similar in terms of finish – pinkish with a golden sheen – that I just had to pair them up. NARS Orgasm would also work with this but I may have misplaced mine :( *shock horror*

That being said, hope everyone's had a great start of the week and....

.... yes! I caved and went back to 'looking young' – the bangs are back!

Diorific True Colour Luminous Lipstick – 340 Diorling (Swatches)

By icyabstract · October 7, 2012 · 5 Comments ·

I have here one of beautifully classic pieces from Dior's Grand Bal, Holiday 2012 Collection.

As you can see, the packaging design is absolutely stunning to both hold, admire and have in the stash. It was a slight pain to photograph too because I kept catching myself in the reflection of it (and gave up dodging in the end) but that's not the point...

To accompany the classic grandeur, the lipstick has a slight weight to it but nothing too heavy that would make it a hassle to carry around.

The shade I opted for was Diorling and based on what I had seen from swatches and mentions online, I was quite surprised when I uncapped my press sample.

This was before I read the press file and took note of the shades available but it seems, as mentioned in my Dior Grand Bal overview entry, the shades available to us differ from the US launches.

From Musings mention and Temptalia's mention, you can get a glimpse of the vibrantly bold US version of Diorling (which is numbered 037).

The local version, numbered 340, while not what I expected shouldn't be discredited.

Our Diorling 340 sits on the more neutral and wearable side of things, leaning a little pink and a little coral at the same time with a hefty amount of fine gold iridescence running through the shade.

In terms of formula, this takes a slight step away from the lustrous glaze-like formula that we have seen quite a fair bit these days.

I want to say this is drier but that would not seem appropriate either.

The Diorific Lipstick formula is creamy but stays close to the lips once you have applied, such that you need not fear it slipping, sliding or migrating around. There is no tugging involved nor is it difficult to achieve an even, beautiful finish on the lips.

The final color pay-off would best be described as a satin but thanks to the load of iridescence in it, provides a more dimensional look in a different way that something lustrous and glossy would.

I do recall seeing lipsticks of this finish before but due to the influx of glossy translucent ones filling the market these days (especially for nuder shades) this seems like a novel thing to reach for again.

I can't stress enough about how lovely a neutral this is. Definitely not boring with that golden glimmer it gives off when it hits the light.

Though one negative about Diorling 340 is that since it has a golden sheen and is a formula that clings closely to the lips, it does have a habit of accentuating any fine-lines or dryness that you may have. Thus those who battle such problems may be less than pleased with the results of swatching this on.

In some cases, this might require some prepping beforehand but otherwise, it is still a lovely finish and shade to have.

With this, I get about 3-4 hours of wear perhaps due to its lighter and more neutral quality. I don't know how the bolder reds will fare but I did not notice any staining with this (obviously because it'a s nude, ha!). The color also cleans right off with a serviette, leaving my lips as they were, without the golden sheen.

It doesn't feel drying on but it is certainly not moisturizing either.

Here's how the lipstick looks from afar, the golden shimmer not as apparent but still lovely. I really do love the tone of pink it becomes on my lips.

The Diorific Lipsticks retail for S$49 and will be available island-wide from 1st November 2012 onwards.

In the meanwhile, check out what other products will be launched with Dior's Grand Bal collection if you haven't already.
