Haul: MAC BBR and more!

By icyabstract · February 10, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

FINALLY.
After a long awaited time, the Brunette Blonde and Redhead collection is finally on sale in Singapore! Or so it had been since last week but I just hadn't gotten the time to go down and look at it till yesterday (Monday 9/02/09).

First off, let me just say that I did drop by really quickly on Friday (06/02/09) to reserve a Redhead MSF the minute I saw the BBR poster on the lightbox. However when I went down yesterday, the MA on duty said that there was nothing under my name! I totally freaked because I knew that the Redhead MSF was in high demand and I thought I was really lucky to have managed to reserve one but sadly the previous MA (the one who took my reservation) must have forgotten. I don't know. But either which I got over this whole issue really quick when I swatched the Redhead MSF tester.

For some really strange reason, the Redhead MSF comes out really sheer on my skintone (NC30) and nothing really shows up aside from some golden shimmers. I know most people with my skintone absolutely adore the Redhead MSF, but sadly it wasn't working for me. Thus, I guess the whole reservation thing was a blessing in disguise? Or at least I'd like to think so ;)

Enough blabbering, here's what I got. And just so you know, I used my first (intern) paycheck to support my haul.
Prices will be listed in this entry because I know how some people would want to know the prices of the BBR items.

(click to view larger images, images open in a new window)

The overall. I didn't really get much.

Brunette MSF (S$51)

2 eyeshadows. (S$26 ea)
Henna from the BBR collection and Vex from the permanent collection.

Lipglass in C-Thru. (S$28)
I've been lemming for this for the longest time ever but had always been on the fence about it (much like Club e/s before I finally got it)

Brushes!
From top: 227 brush (S$60), 165 brush ($61), 226 brush ($47).
I can't believe they still had stock for the 226. I expected it to be sold out.

Now, some swatches:

The gorgeous-ness of Vex isn't really captured in this shot, but oh well. Look at how intense that Brunette MSF is, how pretty!

And incase you think the Brunette is too dark a color to wear (even for an NC30), here's one of me wearing it.

(click on image for the full size. The thumbnail doesn't do the MSF justice)
With a light hand, it looks like a rosy-healthy-flush. I'm absolutely in love with it!

So, that's what I got from BBR and some other miscellaneous items from MAC.
What did you get from BBR or did you get nothing at all to save up for Hello Kitty?

MAC Hello Kitty (My thoughts)

By icyabstract · February 4, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

This is not in any sense a haul entry or anything like that. I just wish to express my personal opinions on the much awaited Hello Kitty (Yes I do know it's out in the States, but it's not here. That's why it's still 'much awaited')

First off, here are some product pictures if you haven't already seen it in my previous entry.

Before I start expressing my views, I would say that I am not exactly a fan of Hello Kitty. Not that I hate Hello Kitty, I'm just kind of indifferent and don't really know what all the hype is about. I mean it's just another MAC Collection and it's getting all the fame because the Kitty is famous and liked by 70% of females? Really, I don't understand that logic, so rest assured when I say my opinions aren't going to be all 'OMG, THAT LIPGLASS IS SO CUTE!'
So as I was saying, I was surfing Twitter in the office today and was pleased to find that Temptalia had done a review and swatches of the Hello Kitty collection because even though I'm not all excited and don't intend to purchase from this collection, I still am curious to see how they would swatch.

For those interested, here are some links you might want to check out before reading on
(links open in a new window)

MAC Hello Kitty Lipglasses & Lipsticks Photos
MAC Hello Kitty Eyeshadow, Pigments, Liners and Glitter Photos

MAC Hello Kitty Review & Thoughts

Just by going through all of that, I have concluded some stuff, and this might change when I view the products in person, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be swayed much either ways.
I still do stand by what I say and that is that this collection does nothing for me. Even after looking through all of that, I don't feel the intense need to check with the MA every single day to know when Hello Kitty is coming in (much like I did with BBR *hides in shame*).
I feel that most of the items are repromotes and MAC is simply banking off the fact that it is Hello Kitty and the fact that the packaging is fairly cute.
However, I might be getting one or two items, just for the sake of collecting. Also, who can ever pass up on a nude lipstick, right?
I must say I was fairly interested with the Too Dolly palette before but not so much so now.
I really don't know, but I'm most definitely not going to save up specifically for this collection, we'll just see how it goes ;)

What do you guys think of this collection? Do you love it to bits and have been saving up or are you passing on it?

Collective MAC Haul (2009)

By icyabstract · February 3, 2009 · 6 Comments ·

So here's a Collective MAC Haul that I had done over the span of January 2009.

Personally I feel that this is quite a lot of MAC to be getting over a span of a month, although I do know that for some this might be normal or even fairly little! I most probably would be cutting down on divulging in MAC in the near future because although it really is a good dose of retail therapy, it isn't exactly healthy for my bank account. But before I actually start on the MAC diet (as I would like to call it), I have already saved up a little sum to splurge on the Blonde Brunette Redhead collection because that collection is honestly something that I am absolutely looking forward to. After much consideration, I don't think I'll be getting anything from Hello Kitty at all just because the stuff really aren't exactly appealing. It's just the fact that it's Hello Kitty, and I don't even like Hello Kitty that much to be honest.

With that said, here's what I had gotten from MAC in the month of January.

Left: Brule e/s (I know the e has an annotation, but whatever)
Right: Groundwork Paintpot

Honeylove (matte) lipstick

Top: 109 Brush
Bottom: 217 Brush

Club e/s (I've been wanting to get this since FOR-EVER)

219 (Pencil) Brush

Okay, so here you go, that's what I've gotten thus far and I simply can't wait till BBR hits the MAC counters! I've already told an MA to reserve the Redhead MSF for me (as that's the one that I'm eye-ing from online swatches), but if the Blonde one appeals more in person, I might change my mind. I only intend to get one MSFs since I'm not huge on face-glitter.

Super Belated LOTD!

By icyabstract · January 19, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

Hey people, so please don't mind the fact that I'm not updating much at all these days.
I apologize and trust me when I say I'm really trying :)

Either which, here's the Look of the Day which I said I was going to be posting and this was the look I had on when I went for the John Little Sale (click here to see what I got at the sale!)
What I did was a real simple/almost neutral looking smokey eye using the Shadowy Lady quad and might I say that this is most probably one of my fav makeup 'items' right now.
It's so great because you can create looks ranging from simple neutral ones to dramatic in-your-face ones.
Enough blabbering about this quad, I probably am sounding a bit naggy... on to the pictures!

Products used:
FACE
- SANA Makeup Base
- Silky Girl Perfect Liquid Foundation
- JJANG Powder Cake (to set)
- LA Girl Blush in Dusty Rose
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder
- MAC Blush in Harmony (to contour)

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Shadowy Lady Quad (Lightfall, Deep Truth, Shadowy Lady)
- Revlon Colorstay in Nude Elements
- Maybelline Gel Liner in Black
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
- Revlon's Luxurious Lengths

LIPS
- Revlon Colorstay Lip Liner in Rose
- MAC Lipstick in Creme D'Nude.

I must say that I really do love this look tons!
It's a nice smokey without looking too dramatic that it can't be worn during the day. I'm not sure if that made sense and I'm pretty sure everyone's definition of dramatic is different but I guess I'll just leave it at that.

Now, off to continue that darn poster because a client is being fickle.

MAC Hello Kitty.

By icyabstract · January 7, 2009 · 2 Comments ·

So if you do remember, you would have known that in a few of my previous entries, I had mentioned that I was super psyched about this collection and that I had been saving up for it.
I'm not a big fan of Hello Kitty, but the packaging is just so adorable, and on top of that, I expected the products to be totally different and really cool.
However, after having seen these photos of the products, I'm not entirely sure if I would be spending so much on this collection after all...

For those who don't know, the MAC Hello Kitty collection is going to be released in different categories.
The first one being the regular collection, just like any other collection out there like say Heatherette and Barbie Loves MAC.
The second category would be the Hello Kitty Kouture collection (yes, with a K). This collection is said to resemble the late Monogram collection in it's glammed up style and expensive feel. Naturally the Kouture collection would also cost more then the regular collection.

Without further ado, here's MAC Hello Kitty which is said to be released:
America - FEB'09/MAR'09 (for Kouture)
International - Unknown

So those were of the normal collection, here's a quick look at the Kouture collection.
Just look at that dazzleglass in the background! That one is a must-get.

So all in all, I'm not thoroughly impressed, but yet rather relieved as I know for sure that I'm not going to drain my entire bank account trying to get stuff from this collection.
As of now, I'm eyeing the Dazzleglass from the Kouture, the warm eyes palette and maybe a blush.
The lip glasses and lip stick colors don't look very appealing, but I guess everything looks different in person so I'm not making any promises now!

What do you think about the collection? Has anything caught your eye?

MAC and... hair?

By icyabstract · December 31, 2008 · 8 Comments ·

MAC's Brunette Blonde Redhead Collection is said to hit the stands in January 2009 in the Continential US, Canada, UK and International shores.

Source: Pursebuzz.com

Can I just say how dead excited I am for this collection!
The products look amazing and now that I'm actually into MSFs, I might be able to get my hands on a few limited edition ones (provided they are available in Singapore).
I'll most probably be getting from a cross of 'hair colors'. Either ways, not that the hair color segmentation would stop anyone from getting anything else outside of the boundaries or anything, but the Redhead collection does look appealing... (:

I guess I'll have to get less stuff from the Hello Kitty Collection then.
Oh well...

Sea Green Eye Look Tutorial

By icyabstract · December 22, 2008 · 0 Comments ·

I've been requested by archiefan1123 (on youtube) to do a Sea Green Eye Tutorial.

When I think Sea and Green, I think more of teals but still more towards the green factor, thus I've thrown in some blues, some greens and some teals to achieve this look:

To see tutorial on youtube, click link below:
See: Tutorial: Sea Green Eye Look

Oh my gosh, can I tell you how much I absolutely love this look.
I know it might sound conceited, but whatever, I really do love it and I might just wear this a lot more often when I feel semi-dramatic.

As requested by archiefan1123

EYES:
- Majolica Majorca Cream shadow in GR732
- 88 Color Palette (colors mentioned in video)
- Revlon Colorstay Liner in Navy
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
- Revlon Luxurious Lengths Mascara

FACE:
- MAC Bronzing Powder
- LA Girl Blush in Bronzed Baby

LIPS:
- Maybelline Blush Studio Mousse in Pink Marshmellow
- Maybelline Shine Seductress in 203

So that is it, hope you guys like the look (:

Quick update! Plus my interview lotd.

By icyabstract · December 14, 2008 · 2 Comments ·

I'm back people!
I wish I could say that I'll be able to update insanely often from now on but sadly, I can't promise you guys that just yet as I'm not quite done with my final projects/presentations.

Anyway, I wanted to drop by to say really quickly that I really do apologize for not having update this as often over the past week because school's being really hard on me as it's the end of the term and all. On top of that, we've got t scout for interviews and internships and honestly, being in the whole 'professional field' thing is pretty taunting.
Aside from school, my parents had actually gone for a trip over the week and sadly I was unable to go with them because of school and all thus I was left home alone... for 5 days!
But being me, I absolutely can't stand being alone in an empty house for 5 days straight, I went over to stay at my boyfriend's place and had conveniently forgotten to take my laptop since it was a rushed packing session.
I didn't have the house keys you see, and thus I was left without my beloved macintosh for 5 days and boy am I glad to get it back today :D

Nuff said, that's pretty much what has been going on,
And on a more makeup related term, here's what I wore to my interview.
It's basically an extremely natural look in my terms. A little too natural for my liking, but what can I say, first impressions are oh-so-important.

I can't quite remember what I had used since it was like 7 in the morning when I was getting ready, but here's what I think I used:

Products Used:

Face
- Silky Girl Perfect Liquid Foundation
- MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural in Medium
- LA Girl Blush in Natural
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

Eyes
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Nonna Palette (I got this from Batam, the colors used were a cream beige and a light brown)
- MAC Powerpoint Eyepencil in Engraved
- Revlon Luxurious Lengths Mascara

Lips
- MAC lipstick in Peachstock
- Majolica Majorca Gloss (forgot which one)

With that being said, thank you guys for being so patient and I promise that I'll try to update as soon as I can.
Much loves!

Monogram and Metal X are here!

By icyabstract · December 4, 2008 · 2 Comments ·

And incase you're wondering, I'm talking about the "new" collections from MAC.
The reason why new is in inverted commas is because it's only new in Singapore but I believe Metal X has been out for awhile in the United States and around the world at that. I'm not sure about Monogram, but what I do know is that both of 'em are here in Singapore.

Initially I had blogged/posted an entry about Metal X and how much I wanted it.
Also I've been telling myself how amazingly gorgeous the packaging for Monogram was and how I just had to get something from it if the stuff were good.
But honestly the minute I was at the Mac store swatching stuff from both the collections, I realized how much I really didn't like the stuff.
Granted that the pigments for Metal X are kind of pretty, but I really didn't need anymore pigments.
Also the cream eyeshadow just wasn't the consistency I was looking for and it really was a little overly metallic in my terms. It's not something I can wear easily on a day to day basis so I passed on Metal X as a whole.
Monogram was really pretty in person and the powders were just amazing (packaging wise), however I just didn't feel justified to have to pay S$95 for this thing called a Sheer Mystery Powder which is also in other terms a Mineralized Skinfinish without the Mineralize bit and with a gold compact. To be fair, they do throw in a refill as well, but I still think it's a rip-off as the powder portion is really not as big as the whole compact itself.
I'm not really one who buys insanely priced items for the sole sake of the packaging (since NOTHING in Monogram appealed to me in person, how sad) especially since as a designer I know too well the appeal of packaging design to know when to resist it. (ha!)

However, I did not walk out of the Mac store empty handed as I did have a bit of cash to spend, all thanks to my aunt and uncle. They had decided to give me an early X'mas gift - money!
I know it's odd receiving money on X'mas, but I guess they just didn't know what to get for me and they were going away for a long time (till after X'mas) so that's the reason why I'm getting my gift early! And to be quite honest, I don't mind receiving money as an X'mas gift either ;)

Enough talking about random stuff, here's what I got and these items were actually things that I had wanted to get in the past. Reason I didn't get them was because the holiday collections were just so limited edition. Lol

Products:
Blush in Harmony
Mineralized Shadows in.... (can't remember the names)
Viva Glam II Lipstick

So that is all and I've also done a drugstore haul, but I don't know if I'll be posting that up or not.
I might... but I'm getting the idea that some people might say that I am spending so/too much money on makeup yadah yadah.
I don't know, we'll see.

Thanks for reading!

Past LOTD/Pre-tutorial?

By icyabstract · December 1, 2008 · 0 Comments ·

This look was supposed to be a tutorial, however due to a few mishaps such as the fact that my computer went into sleep mode while filming, I did not manage to salvage any footage of it and I was already done with the look.

SO...

I've actually posted this question on youtube, asking if they wanted a tutorial of the following look,
which was also a request by yt user fml5119 awhile ago.
Sorry I took so long to get to it my dear!

But yes, here is the look:

Products Used:

FACE:
- BRTC Jasmine Water BB Cream
- MAC Skinfinish Natural in Medium
- MAC Bronzing Powder
- L'oreal Blush Delice in Fresh Papaya

EYES:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Silky Girl Duo Eyeshadow in Yin & Yang (white color)
- Red Earth Tier Set in Bird of Paradise (silver color)
- Rhomlon Black eyeshadow
- Revlon 12 hour colorstay quad in Nude Elements
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
- Revlon Luxurious Lengths Mascara in Black Brown

LIPS:
- MAC PeachStock Lipstick
- Majolica Majorca Gloss (nude color)

If you wish to see more of the look,
see: 'Pre-tutorial' for a Smokey Look

So my intention on posting this here, is also to ask if anyone wishes to see a tutorial of this,
if so, I would re-record one and post it as a video response to that current video on youtube.
And I'd also update on here when I've posted the video.

So yes, do tell me (:
Thanks for reading!
