Blog Review & Swatches: Rhomlon 24pc Eyeshadow Palette

By icyabstract · January 21, 2010 · 21 Comments ·

This is a mini blog-only review of the Rhomlon palette that I own - the one with 24 shades.
It is blog-only review because I think this brand is something that is hard to acquire overseas. I don't even know if it is available outside of Singapore, or even Asia. Since I have more local viewers on my blog, this was a better place to post it on.

Also I have mentioned before in an entry that I love this palette and would be doing sort of a review about it since I don't think it gets as much love.

Here is how the palette looks like:

I bought this palette quite awhile back from SINMA for, get this, S$6.90!
That's about S$7 for 24 eyeshadows and averages out to be about 30cents an eyeshadow!
SINMA branches I know of - Clementi Interchange, Peninsula Plaza (not sure which exact building but somewhere near that stretch).

They do have several other styles of palettes available, some with blush shades and not as many eyeshadows etc. I don't know if all of these are still available and selling for the same price, since I haven't checked in awhile. Though I believe it should be.

So this palette right here, I absolutely love. I think that for the price you pay, it's quite awesome.
The colors are pretty there is a good range of them available within the palette. Also, they are rather pigmented!

Because I didn't quite have the space and time to swatch every color in order, here are some random swatches to give you an idea of how some colors wear.
(if you want to know which color is which on the palette, feel free to ask and I'll try to recall)

Almost all the colors in the palette have a sheen or shimmer to them (read: not glitter!) except for this one

That baby blue shade on the top right hand corner.

Here is a close up shot of all the colors again. My favorite color in this entire palette would have to be that burnt reddish brown (2nd row, under the blue eyeshadow)

One down-side, or at least something to note is that these colors do come off a little 'loose'.
When initially swatched this is what they could come off as:

But after blending it out with the brush, alls good.

So my advice would be to pat the eyeshadow on before proceeding to blending it out and all that.

I know that there have been a couple of pretty awesome and cheap eyeshadow palettes being discovered and I think it's so cool that FINALLY we get pretty good quality items for a great value.

I have been thinking to do a tutorial with this since the colors are real pretty, but you know with this thing being a little hard to attain  for some viewers (outside of Singapore)... I'll feel a little bad. Though I'll probably carry through with doing a tutorial since the colors are not insanely unique that it is impossible to find a close dupe of.

Overall Rating: Fail / Pass / Merit / Distinction / High Distinction
(comparing price value to quality!)

Pigmentation: 4/5
Texture: 3/5
Packaging: 4/5 - compact, nice mirror size, pretty sturdy.

Would I re-purchase this? Yes, though I don't think I would need to. But I wouldn't mind checking out their other palettes and sets.

LOTD: A little purple... (outfit)

By icyabstract · December 4, 2009 · 12 Comments ·

Okay I admit, I don't know what to title this.
The current title is lame but it doesn't matter, I bet half the time people hardly remember titles anyway?

This was the outfit and look that I wore out today to catch New Moon, and also to shop around in. I filmed a vlog-styled video in it but that would probably be going up tomorrow.

Lately, I have been getting into using color a little more, and also darkening my makeup a little; when I am not restricted to a 10 minute makeup routine that is. It's not an obvious change, and it doesn't show up much on camera, but I have been abusing my black eyeshadow of late. Ironically, not in this look though. I used a dark maroon-black shade here, not a pure black. For some reason it could be that I have been wearing neutral eye looks so much and so often that I am getting sick of how simple it looks. I am probably not making any sense here, so let's move on.

I also tried out the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation today and I really do love it, though I don't want to rave about it and add to the hype. Mainly because though I love it, I feel there are some points that need to be mentioned when 'raving' about this product. I don't want people to only see one side of the story, so to speak. So yes, a review of that will be up once I get around to using it a little more.

Left eye's blue shadow wasn't blended well in the photo, though I did go back and blend it over.

CHEEKS

I know the Products Used list may seem a little messed up, but that's because I was trying to utilize my Rhomlon palette, yet I know it is something not everyone has access to. That is why I tried to list down the individual shades that I used so you could try to dupe it with what you have if you wish.
Also, I shall feature the Rhomlon palette in an entry one day as I think it is of decent quality and of an equally decent price!

Now on to what I wore.
As we were going to the movies, I decided to wear something that was a little warmer.

I need to get a full length mirror soon! I was standing on a stool trying to get these shots taken from the mirror on the dressing table.

The jacket I am wearing is from EDC or Esprit (from this haul).
The skirt is something I bought from a random store in Bugis a couple of years back.
Leggings are from This Fashion, I know their leggings are super cheap but they are the ones made for warmth so they are a little thicker, if that is what you want.
And my shoes are Vans Authentics, which are always not pictured because they just don't fit in the frame

That is that! Now I am off to bed (:

Edit: Is it just me or does my hair seem to be getting lighter? I swear this wasn't a pre-taken lotd!
