Korean samples: Iheartkoreanbeauty

By icyabstract · September 15, 2010 · 2 Comments ·

A while back I had received another package of Korean cosmetic/skincare samples. This time around the package is from Zhen, owner of iheartkoreanbeauty.

Zhen had contacted me about this way before but she had to travel to Korea to pick up some samples and products (how cool is that!) before she could provide me with them. Zhen's blogshop, iheartkoreanbeauty, carries numerous brands of korean cosmetics and skincare products in stock. The good thing about that is if they have what you want, you can get it pretty instantly.

Like wise, she provided me various skincare samples, most from the brand Innisfree and Baviphat. I have heard of the brands but never browsed their product range before. And nope I did not hear about innisfree just because Yoona (from SNSD) is their 'face' right now, lol.

List of products she had provided:
• Baviphat Lemon White Sleeping Pack
• Baviphat Apple AC Therapy Sleeping Pack
• Baviphat Mango Magic Brightening Mask
• Innisfree Green Tea Pure Cream
• Innisfree Green Tea Pure Sleeping Pack
• Innisfree The Green Tea Seed Serum
• Innisfree Cooling Foot Shampoo
• Apple Juicy Liquid Foaming Cleanser

As mentioned earlier, i'll be doing mini reviews for these products, as opposed to a full review. These mini reviews are more like initial observations etc since a sample can only allow you to experience so much.

Looks like I have quite a lot of mini reviews to go through and a lot of fun trying out some Kproducts! Will feedback about them all as soon as I can but in the meantime do visit Zhen's blogshop - iheartkoreanbeauty.

Also, if you are interested she is currently holding a Bazaar at NTU running from 14th to 16th September and one at Home Club on the 25th of September. Check this page for more information on that!

Will post a 'what's going on with me' update soon! Loads to put up but not enough time to type up entries and all. The contents include some products to introduce, reviews, hauls and a couple nail polish related posts!

Thanks for reading (:

Samples from Koreanthings

By icyabstract · August 4, 2010 · 4 Comments ·

Hey all!
Here's the last of packages I had received during my hiatus period.

This is a little different primarily because I was given samples of Korean cosmetic and skincare products from Hyings, owner of Koreanthings.

Koreanthings is a blogshop that sprees korean goods from many brands, most that I have not heard of. Hyings noted that I rarely mention asian beauty brands, especially korean ones and wanted to let me sample some products and share with you all what I think about them.

The samples provided are:
• Skin Food Black Sugar Mask
• Tears. More Wrinkleless Rebalancing Lotion
• Tony Moly Dual Effect Sleeping Pack - Intense Repair
• Laneige Water Bank Essence
• Baviphat Magic Girls BB Cream

Samples are not enough to call for a full review because they are valid for 1 to maybe 3 or 4 uses. So, similar to what I had done before with the Benefit Erase Paste, i will be doing a series of mini reviews. These are almost like initial observation from a short term period of using a certain product. It might not be the most informative in terms of long term usage but gives you an idea of how it is - especially for BB creams.

I am still a total newbie in terms of asian brands. Sure I did know about the existence of some brands like Etude House, Laneige, MISSHA etc but I never took much interest in many asian brands until now. Thus, this would be a good way to try out various products from korean brands and hopefully find some products I love.

For those seasoned to korean brands and looking to get your hands on some goods, you can visit Hyings's blogshop - Koreanthings (shipping within Singapore only). She has an ongoing spree due to close on the 15th of August, and here's a quick photo I've grabbed from her site, showing the brands you can order from:

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for mini reviews! Mini reviews will be a blog-only segment, it seems a little tricky to do video reviews of samples.

Disclaimer:
Don't think samples need a disclaimer, right? But in any case,
I was given these samples but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Haul: Even More Lush Samples!

By icyabstract · March 23, 2010 · 16 Comments ·

I seem to have a 'level' of lush sample title going on. The first one was just plain and simple 'Lush Sample', the second was 'Lush Samples Again' and this one is 'Even More Lush Samples'. I wonder what the next one would be....

I made this haul from the same seller as the 'Lush Samples again' blog entry (link above). She has a nice variation of Lush stuff available and is super friendly. I do like just browsing her webpage (you know, like window shopping? haha) and am probably going to pick out more stuff in future, but as of now I think I should lay off Lush for awhile.

Here is the link to the Lush sample seller --> CLICK ME!

And I am featuring the sale thread voluntarily, the seller did not ask for a mention etc. I just figured since a lot of people have asked me regarding where to get Lush in Singapore and all that this would be a good and reliable site to promote.

This time around I bought way more then I did before. It might be due to stress and the fact that I need to relief that somewhere or it might be due to late night surfing impulses, I would never know... I will not be describing all the scents in this entry as I'll be leaving that to the video I aim to film and put up sometime down the road.

Starting off, here are some freebie samples that she had included.

Sniffles of Magic Mushroom Bubble Bar (left) and Marshmellow Moment Bath melt (right).
So cute how she calls scent samples sniffles!

Now on to the sample products I chose before progressing to the random sampler pack.

From the last haul I had gotten the Christmas Eve Bubble Bar and I loved the scent so much that I just had to pick it up again.

Christmas Eve Bubble Bar
Lush really needs to make a soap with this scent, or is there an existing one already? Last I checked... I don't think there was.

Candy Cane Bubble Bar
This smells extremely similar to Rockstar soap! Except maybe a tad sweeter and doesn't have that musk factor that Rockstar has.

Comforter Bubble Bar

Cinders Bath Ballistic
Now I am actually super excited for this one, and how generous, you get half the ballistic! I have been wanting this not because it contains pop rocks that makes fizzing noizes in the bath, but because it smells of cinnamon and I absolutely love the scent of cinnamon.

Last item I picked out was *surprise surprise* a bar of soap!

Porridge Soap
I picked this out because with my UK Lush haul, many people have suggested that I check out Porridge soap too. I have heard mixed reviews regarding this so I figured why not grab a sample and decide if I want a full size at a later date.

Along with my order I decided to be ambitious and go for the 10 piece random sampler pack instead. The 10 piece one costs 12SGD and the 5 piece one costs 7SGD. The first time around I was humble and stuck with 5, but I wanted more lush in my life, so here's what I randomly got:

Honey Hugs Shower Gel
This is like a liquid shower gel form of Honey I Washed the Kids soap! Smells just like it, except a little sweeter (stronger toffee scent)

Dream Cream (body lotion)

Fairy Tale Sugar Scrub
I never thought this day would come but I really really do not like the scent of this. Everyone else in my family thinks it's fine except for me. It doesn't smell rancid but the scent really just puts me off.

American Cream Conditioner

Big Shampoo
Upon first sniff, I thought this smelt a bit weird and very raw-vegetable-ish. I think it might be because of the citrus mix it has, but it slowly grows on you and it becomes a nice pick-me-up fresh and crisp scent.

Want to Believe Bath Melt
A fairly masculine scent I think. It has fennel in it, which I think makes most products lean towards the slightly masculine side. It almost makes the product smell like it has a minty edge when there is absolutely no mint at all, just that fresh perk.

Red Ruby Slippers Bubble Bar

Christmas Kisses Bubble Bar
I would say this seems to smell quite close to Cinders. It has cinnamon and it has that hint of citrus (orange oil). It also makes you feel very warm inside when you smell it. Definitely love it, and it's red!

Fever Message Bar

Butterball Bath Ballistic

And last but surely not least....

Christmas Party Bath Ballistic
I like how this smells though be warned, this is said to be one deadly bath ballistic. Why so? Because it contains little plastic stars that can poke the heck out of you in the bath. Why would Lush put something so dangerous in their products, I have no idea... but it does smell pretty good. A fruity, sweet and intoxicating scent.

And that sums up my Lush sample haul! It seemed like a lot of products, which is true, but they are samples. So when you look at it that way, it doesn't seem like that much already.

I have also twittered that I have found a way to sort of enjoy the bath bombs/melts/ballistics/bubble bars and that is with my kiddie tub. I do not have a bath tub but instead I have this medium sized plastic tub. Almost like the baby ones but bigger. I can't stretch out inside, but it fits most of me. Sounds quite sad, but it gets the job done so.. oh well. And smaller tub = using lesser product! (:

p.s. no I didn't run out to buy a tub just for this. Lol. It was always there, I just never thought to use it.

Keep a look out for the lush sample video if you want to know the scent descriptions for everything listed here (and from the previous sample haul).

Thanks for reading!

Goodies: Samples & more

By icyabstract · March 8, 2010 · 13 Comments ·

Hi all!

I haven't been on the ball with posting and that has lead to an accumulated amount of entries waiting to written and published. While I don't update as much, life still goes on - hauls happen, goodies happen.

This is a collective goodies post. Now when I use the term 'goodies' it simply means that I did not pay for the items. In any case that you wish to check if I purchased something, simply check where it's filed under (at the bottom of the entry). I do disclaim when brands/companies send me

If filed under 'haul', it means I paid for it. If filed under 'goodies', it means I received it (either from a brand, a company or a lovely blogger/reader)

I might do a post just talking about my blog's categories for maybe easier navigation and referencing, but that's a separate issue altogether.

So anyway, I received a couple of goodies over the last month or so and instead of doing an individual entry for each, I thought I would make it collective.

The first package comes from Grace (makeupgeeek).

Awhile back in a blog entry, I had asked for some facial moisturizer suggestions as I suspected my then moisturizer was breaking me out. WIthin the comments there was a suggestion for me to try out Egyptian Magic, which I have heard of because it was raved about by Bubz (bubzbeauty).

Grace was really thoughtful to have mailed me offering to send me a sample to try out.

A very generous sample might I add!

Thank you so much Grace!

Egyptian Magic Cream is said to be good for people with sensitive skin and eczema, it also contains healing purposes so you can use it on insect bites, cuts and wounds. It sounds more or less like aloe vera gel, but more moisturizing. I haven't tried it out yet since I'm testing out the EA White Glove Extreme Routine (which I should review soon!) but I will once I'm done with the routine.

It smells a little funky, not bad.. just a little different though it's not a big deal.

Grace also included that, "you can actually find the full tube and the smaller tube which i think cost around $30 (small tube), they have it in Cathay Cineleisure @ Pandora Box."

Thank you again Grace for the sample. I am looking forward to give this product a spin soon.

Next up is a package from Maddy (MaddyMadeline).

Some of you might not know, but in late Janurary Maddy was giving away some samples she had received from Beauty Credit (which is super sweet, thanks!).
From the pool of samples, I picked out a Brown Rice Mask.

When the package arrived I pulled out samples of the Brown Rice Mask and a Keratin Shampoo/Conditioner pack. It was really nice of her to have included those too when I only briefly mentioned them. The Keratin Shampoo/Conditioner pack is not new to me as my beautician had given me samples of them before. While I loved it, I can't remember what deterred me from purchasing them full size..

Why I chose the Brown Rice Mask? I really don't know. While I don't like eating rice, when it comes to skincare treatments, anything rice or wheat sounds great to me.

Thank you again to Maddy for giving away the samples and taking the trouble to mail them out!

The last goodie would be a package from Elizabeth Arden.

I had been nominated by Pearlin to represent EA's Mineral Makeup in an advertorial which I had blogged about here (that I am again super thankful and excited for). In order to familiarize me to the product I would be modeling, they had sent me the Mineral Foundation to test out before the photoshoot.

It was couriered in an envelope and these were the contents.

If the product looks familiar, it is because this is the same foundation that Sarah and Diana had been sent and the one that they and Kas had reviewed.

Along with the foundation I was also given a brush and mini 'foldable' kabuki. I will feature them more in the entry where I talk indepth-ly about this foundation. I might not go all commando with the review since the other 3 lovely bloggers have provided great insight to this product already.

To be honest I'm always very guarded against mineral foundation since they break me out. However in Diana's review she revealed that this foundation did not break her out (as typically mineral foundations do) and that was what made me put my guard down. More about all that in the indepth entry.

Also, does anyone remember Diana's gripe on the back label of the product and how it makes it look cheap? I don't know if EA took that into account, but here's how the back label looks right now.

My shade is in Pure Finish 03 - not 08!

Included in the envelope are 3 little sample tubes of the White Glove Extreme Eyecream.

I did feedback to Liz that I was almost out of my current one, but I did not expect her to throw 3 samples in! That was a really nice gesture, and this is also a sign that I am indeed loving the eye cream (:

Alright so that sums up this rambly all in one blog post. Hope it wasn't too long to sit through and thank you all for reading! (:

Disclaimer:
All items featured in this entry were sent to me by lovely bloggers and Elizabeth Arden.
Opinions expressed are my own and I am not being paid for this.

Haul: Lush Samples Again! But No Soap?

By icyabstract · February 13, 2010 · 9 Comments ·

I wanted to get this entry up as soon as I can since I wouldn't have the time to update over the next couple of days. For one, there is Chinese New Year relative visiting to be done. That and the looming fact that I have a presentation and report to hand in just after the festive season (thursday). I am definitely going to be kept busy for a while.

Enough rambling on my schedule.

In my last Lush sample haul, I did not list the seller as she had ran out of stock of samples. Well now she stll has some stock left so click here to check out the samples for sale. Most of the stuff were pretty wiped out when I found out, hence I didn't manage to get the things I really wanted to try (e.g. Comforter and Candy Cane Bubble Bar).

The package came in yesterday but there were just too many things going on that I procrastinated posting this.

As seen in the title, I did not pick up any bar soaps. I did get some shower gel, lotion stuff and bath bombs/bubble bars, stuff like that... You'll see in the entry (:

I have mention before that I don't have a tub so getting bubble bars or bath stuff is quite strange. However I have learnt from the seller that you can use these to 'scent' places. Say you put a small chunk of a bath ballistic in your wardrobe, your entire wardrobe will smell of it since Lush scents are relatively strong.

Also, if you plan on traveling or going somewhere with a tub, simply bring it along with you! The seller also suggested to wash your clothes with the bubble bars, though I don't think I would be doing that. I would rather scent my wardrobe, room, bag etc with these lovely things.

Here are the stuff I picked out:

Christmas Eve Bubble Bar (limited edition with the Christmas season)

When I find time, I will do a little haul video of these where I will (try to) briefly describe the scents. Since I'm not home right now I can't exactly remember how each of them smelt like.

Lemony Flutter Cuticle Cream
This one though I can remember exactly how it smells, the scent reminds me of dish washing liquid, no joke! I got two of these because I remember someone raved about this.. I can't recall who, but I was so sure I was going to like it. I don't hate it because it does moisturize well and it's not thick and greasy but man, I don't know if I want my hands to smell like I had just done the dishes.

Avoshower Shower Gel
This one too. I remember the scent because it smells more or less exactly like Lemony Flutter.

The seller also had this awesome deal going on whereby you can purchase a Lush Sample Pack of either 5 or 10 products - they cost S$7 and S$12 respectively. The samples in this pack are slightly smaller as compared to actually buying the sample itself, hope that wasn't confusing. She had listed the products she has on hand to randomize and she explains it a little better then I do in her sale entry (scroll down, it's near the end).

I thought it was fun to get a Sample Pack just to try out products and scents that I might otherwise not pick out. I went for the 5 product one, though I did ask if I could omit including soaps since I wasn't too interested in those.

These are the random 5 products I got:

English Countryside Bath Ballistic

Too Drunk Emotibomb

Mask of Magniminty
Super excited I got this random sample because I've heard so much about it. I can't wait to try it out.

SIlky Underwear Dusting Powder
Super cute name, I rarely 'powder' myself but I think this could be a start.

Snowshower Shower Jelly

Sugar Scrub
Another product I've heard so much about and can't wait to try.

So that's my little haul, and I do want to thank the seller (icesng) for protectively wrapping everything up.
All the little sample jars came with tape stuck all around them to ensure that the lid stays on regardless. Here's the mountain of tape I had after I peeled it off all the jars.

Alright, thank you for reading!
