Haul / On My Nails: YSL Tie & Dye La Lacque — Not Quite A Monochrome

By icyabstract · May 1, 2013 · 2 Comments ·

If you ask me, I think YSL's Tie & Dye La Lacque is quite a genius product.

While simple in function, performing as a glitzy topcoat to add some spice to your manicure, the beautiful and interesting settling of the product makes you need it in your stash.

Which is probably why I ended up with it even though I hardly have time to paint my nails these days.

A Spring 2013 release, these Tie & Dye La Lacques are sold in extremely limited quantities on our shores. Word is that only 24 pieces per color were brought in (to the YSL Boutique at ION only) and they could very well be sold out by now.

I managed to pick one up by dropping by the YSL Ion Boutique when the stocks were in but testers and word of the release was not out yet.

When left to stand (for quite a long while), the polish settles into three beautiful layers, perfectly showcasing the formula.

Though when shaken up, it appears like a shimmery, shiny, and part metallic mixture.

The polish is fairly liquid too hence it is not hard to shake it up.

Going for S$35 each, these polishes give a hint of color with more emphasis on the glowing shimmer and shine.

Hip coat, the one I have here, has a purple-ish hue to it along with occasional flashes of pearly blue and green tones.

Amongst the 4 shades, this caught my eye the most and seemed the prettiest and most unique, though they are all gorgeous.

I did not bother with doing a swatch of it alone because I anticpated the sheerness of it. Thus, here is Hip Coat worn a monochromatic base.

Base Colors –
MAC Dark Enough? + Random White Polish

Base Color + YSL Hip Coat –

Pardon the spam but at certain angles Hip Coat, while being largely purple, can look a little greenish too.

While I applied 2 coats of Hip Coat over the white base, apparently it hardly shows up on camera and the black base has stolen the show. In person, it is a soft irridescent touch but hardly noticeable unless you were inspecting it.

I have a mind to try Hip Coat over a purple base, just to see how it would transform. Though that is if I can find time to paint my nails again!

For swatches of the other shades, do visit Ommorphia!

Though as I had mentioned, they could be sold out locally by now.

Thanks for reading and hope everyone enjoys their (Labour) day off!

LOTD / Outfit: Inspired Mints, Bronze and Browns

By icyabstract · May 3, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

Boring title but it was either this or "What I wore to a wedding!" which was truly what I wore this look to but... well I opted for this title in the end.

Every time during a special occasion or event, I would often wreck my brains over what eyeshadow look to do, aside from the usual neutrals. Most of the time, I draw a blank and go with smokey purples, blues or moss which I love but a little change and variation can be fun too. With that, I thank Pinterest for being a great library of visual references.

I'm not awfully active on Pinterest but I like browsing, not necessarily re-pinning unless I really want to remember something. That said, this look was inspired by a photo I chanced across. I'll put up the photo later but do note that I didn't replicate it exactly, just got some inspiration off it.

Products Used:

BROW / FACE
Sana New Born Lasting W Brow in LB3
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77
Elizabeth Arden Good Morning Serum
Lancôme Maqui Miracle Compact (Crystal)

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
88 Metal Mania Palette (1 teal shade)
Loose Mineral shadow in Float on A Cloud (forgot the brand!)
Majolica Majorca Palette in BR355
Majolica Majorca Palette in GR750
Wet N Wild Comfort Zone Palette
28 Color Palette
CLIO Professional Brush Liner in Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Dollywink Volume Mascara
Canmake Falsies in 05 (outer corner)

CHEEKS
Sleek Makeup Glo in Peach Shimmer

LIPS
YSL Rouge Volupte in Faubourg Peach (30)

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

Just because there was a good load of palettes mentioned I thought I would post which shades I had used from which. While I have mentioned whole palettes, I really only used 1 shade from each.

The squiggly lines are a bit of a mess but here's what went where.

Blue – 88 Metal mania color (above) with 'Float on A Could layered over
Champagne – champagne shade from Majolica Majorca palette, blended between blue and bronze
Bronzey Brown – A bronzey brown used from Majolica Majorca palette to blend the outerhalf
Dark brown – Dark brown from Wet N Wild to accentuate the Outer-v
Skintone Brown – From 28 color palette (not pictured) to blend the edges
HIghlight – From 28 color palette (not pictured)

After running through all that, here's the picture that I was inspired by but clearly this was done sooooo much better. I even contemplated posting it because it would make my look seem so blah.

I loved the minty green they used but I couldn't find that particular shade so I had to go aqua blue instead.

Just to throw it in, here's what I wore to the wedding. It's nothing new and you have all probably seen this outfit and these wedges mentioned a couple of times.

A bad habit of mine is that I rarely plan what to wear the night before so I often end up just grabbing and going with whatever outfit comes to mind.

Ending off, here's the beautiful bride for the evening, Clara! Check out that blinged-up gown!

Collective Lippie Haul & Fishing

By icyabstract · August 9, 2010 · 27 Comments ·

Hello everybody.

Apologies for having skipped a few days of blogging even though I have a lot of entries lined up to write about. Lately I have been rather distracted by the boyfriend's new favorite hobby - fishing.

I never thought that I would ever go fishing in my life. It is exactly like what you see or hear people say, you literally just sit there and wait. It's strangely quite entertaining, if you go with company of course. If you follow me on twitter you probably might have caught up on this distraction since I tweeted where I was fishing at etc. Not overly interesting so yeap that's it and here's a random too-dark-to-see-anything photo of the boyfriend since I didn't take one of myself.

And just for kicks, the first day we went fishing with friends, they reeled up a little catfish.

Okay... on to the makeup bits.

I had collectively hauled some lip products a week or so back. Two different types of lip products thanks to two lovely ladies.

First up, and this being the one I got earlier, Hazel (hazelnutt) was a sweetheart to ask if I had wanted anything from Duty Free. Upon hearing she was getting some YSL Lippies, I got reminded that there was a shade I really wanted. She had helped me custom purchase it and mailed it over - thanks Hazel!

YSL Rouge Volupte in Fauborg Peach

I first learnt about this color from Sophia's entry and fell in love with it. It's a gorgeous color that falls slightly into the nude shade category yet is still a peachy shade with life to it.

Of course top that off with YSL's signature smooth texture, soft scent and luxurious packaging, I really couldn't resist.

When layered on lightly the color is quite soft (not unpigmented, but just a nice peachy-pink-nude), but when you pile it on a bit more it reminds me of a slightly toned down and more pink-toned Shy Girl (from MAC). The peach tones become stronger and the lip color becomes 'brighter'.

The next lip product I got was from a spree Sophia (retailtherapy) had held awhile back.

OCC Liptar in Hush

Yes you guessed it! Of course it was an OCC Liptar and of course it had to be Hush.

True enough you really need the tiniest amount of this product so I presume this tube is going to last me for a long time even if I were to be obsessed and use it every single day. I applied it with a lipbrush though I might train myself to apply it without, incase I don't want to bother with it when I'm rushing.

Hush I find is almost like foundation for my lips. I like how it looks like a super natural lip color because it does not have a gloss or anything to it. The slight pink yet neutral tint it has is lovely too. It applies fine for me, though for those who battle chapped lips, you might find liptars to be something you need to prep up before using. They are quite drying though so definitely moisturize beforehand.

Here's my bare lips to compare with the swatch.

And here's a full face shot of me with Hush on, just because I felt the zoomed up shot itself was not sufficient to show how pretty this color is.

Alrighty so that is it for this entry!

I have a review video and a couple review posts coming up over the next couple of days so I hope you guys don't mind a review spam. (:

Thanks for reading!

LOTD: MU with Glasses

By icyabstract · February 3, 2010 · 14 Comments ·

I hardly show pictures/footage of myself with glasses because I seldom wear them out of the house unless I am too lazy to be bothered or if I am going somewhere nearby. Don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with glasses nor do I hate them. I just feel that with glasses on I don't usually do very much with my make up. Like no bright colors or heavy liner, so I tend to wear glasses on days I am too lazy to bother with much makeup.

Today I was going to the library to do some research for school and I figured I really didn't want to fuss with contacts or makeup. So at long last here's a Look of the Day guest starring my plastic frames.

It's an incredibly simple and default neutral eye, but just to show you how I like to wear my makeup when I'm donning glasses.

Product Used:
FACE
- Silky Girl O2 Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Translucent Setting Powder

EYES
- Splash Proof Sealant
- Lumiere Cosmetics Eye Pigment in Champagne
- L'oreal Brazilian Duo (reddish shade)
- Revlon Colorstay in Nude Elements (highlight color)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- No mascara!

CHEEKS
- Canmake Powder blush in PW11

LIPS
- YSL Rouge Volupte in No. 1 Nude Beige

Yes, no mascara! I find that with glasses at least I don't like to apply mascara because it causes my lashes to feel odd against the frame of my glasses. I know in most cases it's more important to use mascara to brighten and open your eye up, but I don't like it.

And that's the YSL lipstick I got awhile back. It's a pretty color which I feel I can only wear on occasions as such. When I... how'd you say, doll up or girly-fy my makeup? Not that makeup in itself isn't girly or anything, but I think you get my drift.

I still love my peaches and nudes you see (: Though this color is lovely.

Thanks for reading!

Disclaimer: Lumiere Eye Pigment in Champagne had been sent to me by Lumiere waaaay back. I'm using it because I love the color, I had not been asked to feature it nor am I being paid to use it. One item product disclaimers are quite random... Lol.

Nails: Stormy Grey

By icyabstract · January 3, 2010 · 15 Comments ·

Since some of you might have already had a glimpse of this in the previous entry,
I might as well post this up.
Here is what I have on my nails right now.

YSL Long-Lasting Nail Lacquer in Stormy Grey (No. 39)

I absolutely adore this color.
It seems to photograph a little blue-ish compared to how it looks in real life.

In person it is more of a soft murky grey shade, though it's not a flat grey as you can see in the photo above. It probably doesn't sound like the most attractive color, but like Sophia, this is exactly the sort of color I am attracted to. I feel this is a great alternative to having black nails. It matches most outfits just fine, be it girly or edgy and is not as harsh as black nails. Sometimes I do feel that having a solid black nail color can make my hands look pale.

So thanks again to Sophia for this lovely X'mas gift!
I know I'll be going back to this nail color very often (:

One Item YSL Haul

By icyabstract · January 3, 2010 · 21 Comments ·

I had picked up yet another second-hand makeup item. If anyone is wondering, I get these from beauty forums or livejournal sites. There are various forum threads that people sell off makeup at and also livejournal communities where people spree at or sell off their makeup at.

This time, the haul came in the form of a YSL lipstick (Rouge Volupte).
It's not brand new but had been used only once (as specified by the seller). That doesn't bother me because I sanitized the lipstick by dipping the tip of it in some rubbing alcohol and wiped off the top layer. A bit of a fail in description as I read the previous sentence, but I am sure you can imagine what I am doing.

I got in the shade 1 - Nude Beige.

In all honesty I have no idea why they named it Nude Beige when it isn't that much of a beige. It is a very nice color but leans towards the pinks more then it does towards the beige. I didn't take a photo of the tip of the lipstick because it didn't look very pretty with the top being wiped off and all, but here's a lipswatch to give you an idea of the color.

Swatch is a bit rushed, but you get the idea.
I am super excited to finally get my hands on one of these rather raved about lipsticks.
One of the main things that sold this lipstick to me would have to be - surprise, surprise - the packaging. The color itself is not something I would normally be drawn towards. It is a nice nude-pink shade however I still stand by what I believe in and that is, I can't just pull off a pink lip color. I usually have to put in a bit of thought to my overall look in order to wear pink lipsticks.

Though I might not be the biggest fan of the color, I have to agree with some of the raves. This lipstick feels very luxurious on and settles on your lips really well. it seems to conform and fit itself into the lines and crevices, in a good way, though upclose it might be a little scary looking. It also has a nice scent to it. I can't describe what it reminds me of but it is a soft fragrance; the scent does not seem noticeable once on.

And of course, the little mirror up top is a plus too. Though I think if you were relying on that mirror to actually apply your lipstick, it could be a little difficult. Just my thoughts of course, some very skilled person could be able to do it just fine (:

I have rambled on long enough for a miniscule haul like that.
I am interested to pick up a couple shades that Sophia had mentioned in her YSL blog entries (such as Sweet Honey), but I'll probably put that on hold for now.
It feels a little frivolous having to buy these at retail prices (SGD42 ?!) at the DFS in Galleria.

So that is all, thanks for reading!
