Mini Review: Mekhala Black Rice Shampoo & Conditioner

By icyabstract · March 22, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

To match these mini bottles, I have a mini review!

Very unoriginally recycling the picture but yes, I had received the Mekhala Black Rice Shampoo & Condition (for Normal/Thinning hair) within my February Vanity Trove.

While my initial plan was to stash them for travel though I quickly changed my mind after reading Mag's thoughts about how they weren't too good with moisturizing and hydrating the hair. The last thing I want is dried and frizzy hair abroad!

Thus I opened this bottle up earlier this week and at wash #4, I think I am ready to share my thoughts about it.

How it smells...
First off, this SMELLS AMAZING. I don't captilize my words like that often but it truly does, in a very soft, earthy and natural way. Almost like sweet wheat/rice, a mix of yummy yet aromatic enough you don't want to eat your hair. It vaguely reminds me of sikhye, but less syrupy.

How it feels post-wash...
When combined, I feel it's almost a pity to say I find my fingers catching light kinks in my hair through the day. It doesn't run smoothly through all the time and it seems to feel lighter in weight. It's almost like the effect of a voluminizing shampoo/conditioner but not in the good way. It's in the way where your hair feathers such that it appears dry. While it isn't straw-dry, coupled with my colored hair, it's not exactly an image I would want.

Quicknote: I don't brush my hair and if anything I 'brush' it with my fingers.

While it doesn't leave me with lustrous hair, those in search of a mild shampoo & conditioner such as someone with 'problem scalp' or dandruff might have more luck with this one.

Shampoo & Conditioner Breakdown
Surprisingly the shampoo soaps up quite well (for something paraben, sulphate, added chemicals free) and makes it easy to coat the hair with. If anyone is to blame I blame the conditioner for not doing it's job of, well, conditioning.

Since I do love the scent of this so much, I shall try an odd pairing - Rice Shampoo's last use with my Dove Conditioner and see how that goes, wish me luck!

Thanks for reading this wordy picture-less post, I tried to make it a little easier to read with my lame titles. heh.

Do share if you know of good rice shampoos/conditioners out there! I'm not giving up on the idea of feeding my hair.

Thanks for reading.
