LOTD / Outfit: Inspired Mints, Bronze and Browns

By icyabstract · May 3, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

Boring title but it was either this or "What I wore to a wedding!" which was truly what I wore this look to but... well I opted for this title in the end.

Every time during a special occasion or event, I would often wreck my brains over what eyeshadow look to do, aside from the usual neutrals. Most of the time, I draw a blank and go with smokey purples, blues or moss which I love but a little change and variation can be fun too. With that, I thank Pinterest for being a great library of visual references.

I'm not awfully active on Pinterest but I like browsing, not necessarily re-pinning unless I really want to remember something. That said, this look was inspired by a photo I chanced across. I'll put up the photo later but do note that I didn't replicate it exactly, just got some inspiration off it.

Just because there was a good load of palettes mentioned I thought I would post which shades I had used from which. While I have mentioned whole palettes, I really only used 1 shade from each.

The squiggly lines are a bit of a mess but here's what went where.

Blue – 88 Metal mania color (above) with 'Float on A Could layered over
Champagne – champagne shade from Majolica Majorca palette, blended between blue and bronze
Bronzey Brown – A bronzey brown used from Majolica Majorca palette to blend the outerhalf
Dark brown – Dark brown from Wet N Wild to accentuate the Outer-v
Skintone Brown – From 28 color palette (not pictured) to blend the edges
HIghlight – From 28 color palette (not pictured)

After running through all that, here's the picture that I was inspired by but clearly this was done sooooo much better. I even contemplated posting it because it would make my look seem so blah.

I loved the minty green they used but I couldn't find that particular shade so I had to go aqua blue instead.

(image from Pinterest)

Just to throw it in, here's what I wore to the wedding. It's nothing new and you have all probably seen this outfit and these wedges mentioned a couple of times.

A bad habit of mine is that I rarely plan what to wear the night before so I often end up just grabbing and going with whatever outfit comes to mind.

Ending off, here's the beautiful bride for the evening, Clara! Check out that blinged-up gown!

Thanks for reading!

LOTD: Adding color behind my frames!

By icyabstract · April 13, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Awhile ago if you told me to try a blue eyeshadow look on a spec-cy day out, I would have went "madness, no!".

For no particular reason except I personally feel my frames + my face + my hair + my eyes will equate to this hot mess of a situation if I tried anything out of my neutral-ish comfort zone when wearing frames. I know that veterans who don makeup with frames are probably laughing at my situation.

Though after that little contact lens hiatus (due to my late order), I had no choice but to spice up my looks with color since I was so bored of wearing brown every - single - time!

Ever since then, I've been more open to color behind frames!

It looks like I'm ready to doze off, see what I mean by perpetual tired-ness!

The look isn't intensely colored but it's color all the same! Though one thing I am still not adapting well to is mascara with frames. This is just beyond my comfort zone, not just in looks as my lashes tend to 'glide' against the frames and it irks me so much I blink uncontrollably.

Anyone else with this issue?

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,

I can't help but noticed the huge chunk of provided products in the Product list. Oops, completely unintentional and I was just grabbing items as I did the look.

Though one item to point out is that I wore the Lancôme Maqui Blanc Miracle Compact in this look! While I haven't prepared a proper review post, I thought I would post up this quick shot I took before I added any blush on or highlighting agent on. It was purely foundation plus some contour.

Little itty bitty breakouts but overall I like how the complexion already appears brightened and enhanced! Even in the post-blush pictures, it shows a brightened complexion which I really love with Maqui Blanc be it new or old.

Lastly, can we talk about how sorry my hair looks now?

It is in a 'I don't know what to do with it' state because it's getting long and irritating plus the color is fading back to this disastor.

Hopefully, hopefully all that will change with a visit to the salon this weekend. Keeping my fingers crosse that hair-enthusiasts no longer have to cringe when seeing photos of me on here!

Thanks for reading, TGIF!

LOTD: Lancôme for the Weekend

By icyabstract · March 14, 2011 · 14 Comments ·

Hello everyone!

Haven't blogged in a week as I was caught up with stuff here and there. While I have loads I want to share, it's always the case of not having enough time to properly write a sound post and not make it sound haphazard or dead - yet it can't be rambly either! But anyways, here's a look from the past weekend.

I wanted to try out the new Lancôme goodies that I had acquired (eyes & lip products, powder foundation) and decided to put them all together (as much as I can) in one look.

At the same time I revisited the Lancôme Teint Miracle foundation that I had received from before and used the new Maqui Miracle pressed powder as a setting powder. The Teint Miracle liquid foundation is still one of my favorite natural and light-wear foundation during the weekends.

As reported, Teint Miracle is a medium coverage foundation so you might briefly see some blemishes peeking through yet it evens out my skin tone good enough. I'm not sure if it's just me but I like how radiant this combination seems, it seems to just be reflecting off light!
Here is how the two foundations look, pre-the rest of everything else.

Here's the finished look!

The Lancôme Ombre Absolue Impact 3D palettes come with an instructional guide on how you can apply the colors but I decided to do it my way this time around. The blue eyeshadow shades follow that of most asian cosmetics whereby the shade itself isn't overly intense yet the color still shows up, making it easy to work with even for the color-shy.

Not forgetting the eyeshadow shades are all lovely and shimmery, providing some dimension. One direction I did follow was to apply the shimmery 'pop' color in the centre of the lids.

Excuse the brows, but you can see the reflects best in this photo. I did experience some fall out with this over time but the glitter is rather fine hence I wouldn't say I looked like a disco ball at the end of the day.

Another close-up of the foundation (and the gleam in the eyeshadow) you can see I don't have perfect skin but I like how my skin looks with the foundation - still skin, but smoothed out and glowy.

And here are more shots of the foundation at angles just because I liked how glowy my skin appeared in them and I made sure to use a matte blush. I'm being a little narcissistic here but bear with me this once :P

Products Used:

FACE/BROWS:

Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation
Lancome Maqui Miracle Powder Foundation (to set)

EOTD: 'Flashy' Weekend look.

By icyabstract · January 23, 2011 · 7 Comments ·

It's Sunday!

Though I'm not going anywhere of importance today, I wanted to throw on a true colored look since I haven't worn one in super long. I did head out yesterday and took shots of a LOTD (which I've yet to resize etc but will later today), it was still a relatively neutral look in comparison since I was meeting relatives and didn't want to go crazy with it.

Long story short, I played around with a look today since I was bored at home.

I tried out the L'oreal HIP Duos which I received back in their little launch party last year. I've yet to try the colored duos so I decided to be a little 'flashy' today and used.... Flashy.

L'oreal HIP Duo in Flashy

I didn't do a full face of makeup (skipped out blush and lip color) since I wasn't going anywhere.

I guess there's no need for me to rave about the pigmentation of these shadows, it's pretty much a known fact that they swatch well and do blend well. I sort of liked how in this combination it seems like there's nothing on my inner corners, though I did use the lighter skin-tone shade on there. Pretty interesting.

Shall only list down the products I used for my eyes since that's the only thing worth showcasing. Hence EOTD in the title instead of LOTD :)

Products Used:

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
L'oreal HIP Duo in Flashy
88 Color Palette (darker blue/black for contouring)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo Mascara

It sure was fun wearing a bit of color even though I wasn't really going anywhere. Will post up my more neutral look from yesterday once I resize them all.

For now I shall wash this off and head out for dinner, I heard my dad say something about spicy steamboat, just had something like that last friday, haha, oh well.

Hope you are all enjoying the last few hours of the weekend and have a good dinner to get you set for the week ahead!

LOTD: Anna's Blues (+ outfit!)

By icyabstract · December 4, 2010 · 18 Comments ·

Hello everyone!

I haven’t been updating due to a busy period at work with this up-coming event. It is a good and bad thing to know that the end is drawing nearer; good because it will all be momentarily over (it’s a bi-annual event) and bad because things are always bound to go wrong at the last minute. It’s my first time handling this event and I am all alone on the design side as the other designer had left. So that’s why I whine about working overtime and having loads to do because I am handling two person’s share of work :(

But anyway, this was the look I wore to work today.
Yes, a Saturday. Insert another sad emoticon.
I try to wear colors on weekends, since I’m wearing browns all week. My work place isn’t particular about needing to have neutral makeup so unless I’m in a rush, it’s colors for work on Saturday!

Today I decided to use the blue Anna Sui duo I got from this gathering. Believe it or not, this is my first time using this one. My bad, I was always using the purple duo.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
K-Palette Eyebrow Liner in 01
Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation
Lumiere Invisiveil (to set)

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Anna Sui Eyeshadow Duo in 04
88 Color Palette (darker color, brown blending, highlight)
K-Palette Eyeliner in Black
Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
Revlon 3D Mascara

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Redhead

LIPS
Canmake Lip Concealer in 01
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
Silky Girl tube-gloss (really just clear gloss)

Highlighted products have been provided to me by companies/distributors.

It seems I turn to greens and blues a lot when I’m going for colored looks - I believe I have already mentioned this. I have used other colors in older LOTDS but it seems it’s just greens and blues these days.

How about this:

You all suggest a color for me to use the next time I do a colored LOTD! If it doesn’t look horrid (ha-ha) I shall post it up! Or even if it does look bleh I’ll post it, just ‘cause.
So list a color, one color and I will try to incorporate it.

Lastly, my outfit!

Saturday is the day where you can dress casual (and wear blue jeans), in the words of my colleague, you could even wear a bikini to work and no one would care. Not that you really should…

The dress-top  I am wearing is actually my boyfriend’s shirt. I always snag from the boyfriend and brother’s wardrobe. It’s a little short at the sides so I wore shorts under, also because I am still going to work (though shopping after!).

So that’s it, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend; I know I am! I am trying hard not to think about work on Monday.

Thank you all for reading!

LOTD: 'Throw-on-and-go' Smokey Blues

By icyabstract · September 1, 2010 · 31 Comments ·

For today's look I did not have a plan of what shadows/colors I wanted to use. I just started grabbing random stuff and ended up with this. All I had in mind was that I did not want to do a neutral look.

Even though I went out in the middle of the day and even though the only place I went to was my driving school, I decided to do something a little smokier - although this is really more day-time smokey to me since it's so mild.

Why smokier? Because I am starting work tomorrow (Gasp!) and I am sure that is the start of a neutral rut for me. Granted I can still do 'heavier' looks on weekends but what I have learnt from my internship period is, I do prefer letting my skin rest on Saturday and Sundays. If I can help it I would wear little to no makeup since I am putting it on Monday - Friday.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
Rojukiss BB Cream
Revlon New Complexion 2-way Whitening Foundation
K-palette Liquid Brow in 01
MAC Browset in Show Off

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Models Prefer Must Have Shadow Compact
ELF Eye Transformers
NYX Single Shadow in Atlantic
28 Color Palette
K-palette Liquid Liner in Black (lining the lid)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved (lining lower lashline)
Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo Mascara
Za Cutie Curl Mascara in Long Lash

CHEEKS
Maybelline ExpertWear blush in Two to Glow

LIPS
Canmake Lip concealer in 01
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
LA Girl Glitter Gloss in Crystal

Highlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

I don't normally do this but here's a shot of the items I had used on my eyes. I decided to include an explanation in this LOTD since I did 'throw-on-and-go' resulting in using a number of products rather randomly.

Here is a breakdown of the individual colors I used within the palettes/quads in terms of placement and all.

1. Models Prefer (Taupe Shade) -
Blend all over lid

2. ELF Transformers (Blue) -

Blend on outer 3/4 of the lid over Taupe shade

3. NYX Single Shadow in Atlantic -

Pat lightly on outer corner

4. 28 Color Palette (Off-white)
-

place on inner corner of the eye

5. 28 Color Palette (Mid-Brown) -

Blend in crease where taupe/blue stops

6. 28 Color Palette (Beige-White) -

Highlight color

Incase it seemed so, I haven't got my hair cut or anything, it was merely braided. The bits falling infront are the layers that tend to loosen themselves after awhile. Though I must say, I have been thinking of geting my hair cut at about shoulder-length... but of course I don't have the guts to. One day - one day I will cut it, I just haven't decided when.

I'll end this post with a photo of what I have on my nails right now.

A simple variation to the white french tips. I figured it's best to keep it simple for work (for now!) but I still wanted to make it look interesting at the same time. It is just something about french tips, I've always liked having them on.

Thank you all so much for reading and I'll see how often I can manage to update while working!

LOTD: Sweet Lilac Blues (Featuring Eye Rockz!)

By icyabstract · June 26, 2010 · 19 Comments ·

Hello all!

So I have finally gotten around to posting this LOTD that I had mentioned about almost a month ago. I do have more free time on my hands now since I'm done with my projects and have graduated (in terms of the ceremony and all). I am still running around sorting out post-graduation stuff like the exhibition event but that sure leaves me with more free time then working on projects.

More about my graduation and some other news in another blog post. I'll get that up once I'm really done with school for good!

In the meantime, this was the look that I wore to the Magnum Gold?! Party.

I had decided to whip out some Eye Rockz mineral eyeshadows that I had been sent as during that period I was stuck in a neutral rut and wanted some color. I had also not been able to try out the Eye Rockz shades yet, so this was a perfect opportunity.

Product Used:

FACE/BROW
Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel (primer)
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
LUV Setting powder

K-Palette Brow Liner

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
MAC Delft Paintpot
Eye Rockz Pigment in Sweet Lilac
Eye Rockz Pigment in Mysterious
Revlon Colorstay quad in Nude Elements (middle 2 shades for crease - and highlight color)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Lash Bone Primer
L'ancome Fatale Mascara

CHEEKS
LA Girl blush in Spice
MAC Beauty Powder in (highlight)

LIPS
Canmake Lip Concealer in 02
Majolica Majorca Lipgloss in PK313

H
ighlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

I don't think I have swooned about how pretty a color I think Sweet Lilac is. I don't own many lilac shades since (according to what I have seen) they seem to be quite rare. It's hard to find one that isn't too pale or too magenta-purple, but I feel this shade is just right!

In this LOTD I applied it over MAC's Delft paintpot and I love how the color had transformed. A quick foreword, this color is quite hard to photograph. This was as close as I could get, but in person there is a smidgen less blue in the color.

I'm definitely loving this combo for a blue or cool-toned smokey eye without sticking completely to a blue palette. You can find Sweet Lilac on this page of Eye Rockz and Mysteriously Blue on this page.

Eye Rockz has included some new shades to their range so be sure to check that out - they ship internationally! They have also made a facebook fanpage so hop over and 'Like' the page if you haven't!

I'll update more about the new colors in a later entry as Vaun had been kind enough to have gifted me a few colors of my choice. Also, if you're thinking to pick up either shades I'd suggest you hold your horses a little! Discount code coming up very soon (:

Thanks for reading!

Nails: Blue India (and dupe?)

By icyabstract · April 8, 2010 · 11 Comments ·

MAC Nail polish in Blue India (Liberty of London collection)

I absolutely love this shade of blue! I can't even describe the color of it, it's not a true deep blue but yet it's still a dark enough color to match every outfit with.
I have been looking for a polish in this shade and I honestly would not have been so attracted to this color if not for a little polish experimentation I had done a couple months ago. All in all, I do like the MAC one. This swatch was about 2 coats of it, I would have added a third but I was too lazy to wait for it to dry.

So here's the dupe part!
Back in end 09 I attended a cousin's wedding and I had a LOTD entry about that. In that entry I talked about this nail polish combo I tried out and I loved and this was how the color turned out:

I don't have a closer shot, so this would have to do. As you can see the nail colors are pretty similar, the MAC one appears to be a little darker. Through this experimentation, I've realized how gorgeous this shade of blue polish is. If you are interested, here is what you need to dupe the MAC color.

Any regular ole black nail polish would do, and Rainbow nail polish in 53.
I know Rainbow isn't a brand that is accessible everywhere, I don't think? I know it's available here in Singapore at a lot of random beauty stores, often going for maybe 2-4 dollars each. Though it could have increased in price, I'm really not sure.

But what I do is put a black base coat first and top it with 1 layer of the Rainbow nail polish, voila~
The tricky part is that the Rainbow polish is a bit 'watery' so you might have to be careful else you can get some streaking.

I hope the dupe helps some of you guys who have been eyeing that MAC color but don't want to fork out the 19 bucks for a polish.

UPDATE!
I'm adding in a photo of the YSL Stormy Grey nail polish as well for reference and comparison, since that name had been brought up and they seem to belong in the same family of blues

Thanks for reading!

LOTD: Classic Smokey Eyes With A Pop of Color

By icyabstract · June 28, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

Now that is a long-ass title!
But it does totally sum up today's look of the day in eight words.

Today I started doing my look with a nice classic smokey eye in mind and as I went along I felt that I wanted to add a little something to it.
Looking through my drawers, I stumbled across the IN2IT liquid liners that I had gotten not too long in the funky green and blue shades.
Seeing this as an opportunity to experiment, I decided to incorporate this into my look and this was what I had ended up with.

Products Used:
FACE:
- Silky Girl O2 Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Translucent Powder (to set)
- Contour & Highlight Palette (contour)
- Canmake Powder Cheeks in PW16
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance (highlight)

EYES:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Red Earth Tier Set (dark & light grey shade)
- 28 Color Palette (warm brown shade to blend out)
- Pupa Palette (highlight shade)
- IN2IT liquid liner in Caribbean
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Cover Girl Lash blast Mascara

LIPS:
- ZA Gloss Vibrante in G8

So that is it!
I definitely don't look the most photogenic here as I was in a bit of a rush to get photos taken but oh well.
So long as you all get to see the colors and look, alls good (:

Hope you enjoyed this post, thanks for reading!

Tutorial: Shadowy Blues (Outfit)

By icyabstract · June 10, 2009 · 7 Comments ·

Here is yet another tutorial to compensate for my lack of video regularity.
This is a really easy to do neutral blue smokey eye. For those who aren't a fan of a black dramatic smokey eye, this could be a good one for you to try out. I would say it's suitable for day-wear as well as night-wear since it is a smokey eye after all. You can't ever go wrong with that for night events!
I had also posted this as a LOTD before and what I did was basically recreate the eyeshadow look and changed up the face products.

The primary product in this tutorial is the MAC Shadowy Lady quad from the Cult of Cherry collection.
The colors in that quad are gorgeous and I had been requested to do looks from there so be sure to look out for them in future! I'll try to do a range of neutral and dramatic looks with it since the colors are so versatile.

Here are some photos of the look and a link to the tutorial:

Products Used:
FACE
- MAC Mineralized Blush in Love Joy
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Shadowy Lady Quad (Light Fall, Deep Truth, Shadowy Lady)
- 28 Color Palette *optional
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved

LIPS
- Canmake Lip Concealer in 01
- MAC Lipstick in Creme D'Nude

YOUTUBE// Tutorial: Shadow Blues

After having done this tutorial, I attended my boyfriend's mom's birthday dinner and here is the outfit that I had worn there.
It was a dinner at some hotel restaurant so I didn't entirely want to show up in jeans.

I know, my studded belt seems also like a staple in everything I wear.
I can't help it, my belt and I would never be seperated. Lol.

Anyway, thanks for reading/watching and have a great day you guys!
