Les Twin-Sets De Chanel - Matching your Lips & Tips

By icyabstract · August 8, 2012 · 7 Comments ·

It seems that Chanel is taking a shot at having coordinating lip and nail colors too!

The limited Twin-Sets will come in three shades, from a vampy deep berry, to a fun and playful pink and a sophisticated beige for the nude-shade loving people.

Here are the nail lacquers:

While marketed as an exclusive twin set combo, the Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick (S$45) and matching Le Vernis (S$37) will be sold seperately, much like how it was done with MAC Cosmetics.

Here are the lovely combinations:

Rouge Allure Velvet La Provocante / Les Vernis Provocation

Rouge Allure Velvet L' Infandéle / Infidéle

Rouge Allure Velvet La Délicate / Délicatesse

While I am very entranced with the dark sensual nature of Rouge Allure Velvet La Provocante, I know that berries and deep plums are an area I have not experimented with. Thus the chances of me actually wearing that lipstick out will be so, so, slim.

Rouge Allure Velvet La Délicate on the other hand looks gorgeous. In fact, that whole duo looks beautiful but isn't it like dejavu all over again for me since it appears similar to what the Peachstock combo was in MAC's collection.

Lipstick aside, I'm spying Provocation and Délicatesse nail polish but we'll see! I think I need to lay off my polish obsession for awhile...

Are you eyeing any polishes / lipsticks or possibly a duo?

Random: Going down the alphabet... CC Cream!

By icyabstract · March 28, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

We are slowly moving down the alphabet chain and it seems CC Creams are starting to make their presence known. I had recently heard about it only to realize that some brands have been releasing CC Creams for perhaps a good year now and only recently has this name been surfacing quite regularly on sites.

CC Creams, otherwise known as Color Control Cream, is suppose to be an improved version of the BB offering.

(image from erikajjang.tumblr.com)

Musings of A Muse did a very informative introduction about them and you can hop over here to read all about it because I am not going to reiterate eveything here.

The main gist is that CC Creams boasts to be lighter in texture (compared to BB Creams), feel non-oily on, offer a higher level of coverage, added SPF for sun protection while still encompassing the nutritious pro-skin benefits (such as fighting wrinkles, pigmentation etc) of a BB Cream.

While searching up about it I got pretty intrigued with how it would feel on the skin as another tumblr mention described it to bubble and form water dropletson the skin (Reminds me vaguely of the L'EGERE one.

Though I am also quite amused at where this makeup revolution is going. Will we have ZZ Creams in a few years to come? I joke...

Nonetheless, I predict more brands will pick up on this and I sure do welcome CC Creams with open arms and a bare face. Already available in korean cosmetic labels, they are said to be trotting over to the UK beauty industry as well.

A little closer to home, Rachel K Cosmetics has actually launched a CC Cream last year, way ahead of this talk, and you can read more on their Facebook Note, along with Atelier Gal's swatches (and comparison to BB) here.

Here are some other CC Creams that are available, somewhere out there....

And an upcoming one from a familiar brand.... Chanel CC Cream!

(image from specktra.net)

I've not tried a CC Cream (aside from a tester of Rachel K but I was under the illustion it was a BB Cream) on myself so I can't comment on them but they have been receiving good response from sites and that has certainly aroused my interest in them.

While we do have the Rachel K one readily available, I am looking towards the more random brand Korean and Chinese brand offerings. I'm sure like with the BB phenomenon most brands will have their own take and twist to CC Creams.

So... Thoughts on CC Creams - Tried them? Looking forward to them? or think it's too much?

On My Nails: Chanel Paradoxal

By icyabstract · November 27, 2011 · 7 Comments ·

I've decided to change nail swatch entries to 'On My Nails' instead of just 'Nails'. A random small change and I haven't gone back to switch them all but one thing at a time!

Speaking of 'one thing at a time', I finally got to using my Chanel Paradoxal nail polish. I hauled it way back in September, even before the Jeans collection which I ended up swatching before Paradoxal.

I read some reviews back when the color first launched and there were certain mentions about people being a tad disappointed with how it swatches. In the bottle there is a lovely purple shimmer that shines through when it hits the light however on the nails that same effect is downplayed quite a bit.

When it catches the light

When it isn't 'reflecting'

In truth I really don't mind that factor because the color on it's own is a gorgeous darkened aubergine, very pretty! Only under bright or strong light (such as camera flash and the sun) does the purple glint make its appearance. To me, this kind of reminds me of those car color choices, with a general purplish base color and a glint when it hits the light.

Out of complete randomness I decided to do some (hideous) nail art on my thumb, if you can even call it nail art. It started with a purple strip (LA Girl) down the centre and just evolved to 'I don't know what the heck the design even is'.

At least the polish is kinda dark so you can't really see it but it's quite cute to look at (from afar).

I think Paradoxal sits on the same shelf as Metro Chic, the two colors that I absolutely love and I think are classic to wear in any situation.

What are the polishes that you love and can throw on anytime when you're not sure what to use?

Haul: Chanel Mat Top Coat

By icyabstract · October 25, 2011 · 2 Comments ·

Hello everyone, I know I haven't been the most active on here lately. I tell myself to try and post every day but I guess procrastination just got the better of me.

Have been a little busy and running around of late, whenever I get free time I'm more inclined to turning on some Korean variety shows, catching up on sitcoms/drama serials or just slacking away.

Speaking of drama serials, has anyone seen HBO's Game of Thrones? I was a little zoned out in the first episode but now I absolutely love it.

Anyway back to this... slacking aside, there's always time for a haul!

Awhile back I was at Takashimaya with Chantana (everbluec) and we dropped by the Chanel counters. I was indecisive about whether I needed the Mat Topcoat in my life but after swatching it on myself (and Chantana's demonstration earlier), I guess I caved...

Whats new!

One argument of mine for getting this mat topcoat even with its pricetag of S$32 is that the bottle is so sleek and chic! What's more, it's Limited Edition.

I'm really loving the matte black exterior even though I've noticed, from their testers, that once abused the black will chip away.

Sad to say I don't have swatches of this provided in this entry.

I have an idea of how to play around with this mat topcoat but I'm not changing my manicure just yet (it's still 'Vegas Moon'). I'm keeping my nails a little low key for some personal stuff coming up. Yes, Marquee Moon on one finger is considered 'low key'. heh

I'm no huge fan of matte polishes, which is why I like the idea of a matte topcoat. This way you can play around with it and transform existing nail polishes in your stash. If you were to get a colored matte polish, you would be 'stuck' with a matte polish in that shade. Don't get me wrong, I don't deny that matte shades are quite lovely but for someone like me, this is most ideal.

Anyway, swatches of this soon and I'm still caught in some aspects but will try my best to keep this updated regularly. And perhaps with more focus on makeup now, though I can't help that nail polishes have stolen my attention.

What is this change of heart?!

Haul & Swatches: Les Jeans de Chanel

By icyabstract · October 10, 2011 · 4 Comments ·

I happened to be at ION the Friday when Les Jeans de Chanel collection was launched, last Friday of September. Since I was in the area, why not drop by and give it a quick look?

Well, a bad decision for my bank but I left the store happy and that's all that matters. Funny thing is, the color that caught my eye through online swatches was Blue Boy but in person everything changed and I ended up not even getting that shade.

I had the intention of only getting one nail polish but the sales assistant was so nice, friendly and helpful that I left with more. See: a happy customer is a spending customer.

I ended up walking away with Blue Rebel, which I was undecided about, and Coco Blue.

I never cared for Coco Blue when I saw the swatches online but in person I guess it's just a different thing. The whole combination of placing these 2 shades side-by-side was really attractive too.

Coco Blue has little specks of glitter within the polish (hardly visible) but you can see in this next photo.

The reason I got both was because the sales assistant had a french tip styled manicure of these 2 shades on and I thought it looked gorgeous. I didn't have the exact shade of blue as Coco Blue (I'd like to think not) so I needed (yes needed) it to replicate that.

Now I can have a Les Jeans de Chanel collection french tip manicure~

I'm also toying on using Blue Rebel as a base and Canmake's Crack Lac in Silver over it... In my head it looks pretty but guess I'll have to try to know.

Each bottle retails for S$36. I believe it's only available at MBS Chanel and ION Chanel.

Thanks for reading!

Haul: Chanel for my mom... & myself!

By icyabstract · September 19, 2011 · 7 Comments ·

Like schooling days I tend to start digging up blog photos and drafting posts when doing assignments. I was in the midst of a report this afternoon but somehow sidetracked and found/edited these pics. It seems I can't do one thing alone and need to do multiple things at a time or I can't focus.

Anyway, I found this belated haul (attained early august/late july) that I've yet to post up so I thought I should do so. Don't mind me!

Mom's birthday was in early August and it seems I am always getting cosmetic items for her. It was a Chanel Le Rouge lipstick last year, and another Chanel item this year. Reason being, my mom is interested in the brand but never thought of splurging on getting anything as spending money on cosmetics was never a huge priority on her list.

Which I guess would be quite perfect for me!

Since this is belated I can reveal what is all wrapped up above.

I found out that my mom was running low on her foundation so I went down and picked up the Chanel Le Blanc Whitening Compact Foundation for her. She was always a powder foundation user and it wasn't hard getting her shade right either since we are of the same skintone/shade.

The BA recommended this when I mentioned my mom is constantly looking for something to brighten her complexion. I swatched the tester and the powder feels extremely silky and hearing my mom rave about it of late, I feel tempted to get one for myself...

but we'll see how that ends up.

Since I was at the counter I browsed the nail polishes and decided to treat myself by picking up Paradoxal. I always thought this was a limited edition shade but after visiting several Chanel counters after, they still have stock of it so... is it permanent then?

Someone enlighten me!

So glad to finally own this!

While waiting for the BA to wrap up my gift, I browsed the counters a little more and that lead to my next purchase.

I spotted the Soleil Tan de Chanel 4 Facettes Bronzing Powders from their Summer'11 release and immediately asked the BA if there was stock for Bronze Corail.

I was expecting a no since it was released for quite awhile now but as luck had it, there was! And the very last one too!

The powder felt very smooth and velvety when I was swatching them and the shades are pretty pigmented too. The following was from one swatch of the product to the back of my hand.

The shades can be used individually, or mixed up (in pairs or altogether) for a different end result. Here's the end shade when all 4 strips are mixed together.

From the swatch I thought it looked vaguely like Cheeky Bronze or Stereo Rose and decided to swatch those alongside Bronze Corail.

But they aren't exact dupes and Cheeky Bronze is a little lighter, it's just that it was caught at an angle but it's no where close to Bronze Corail.

Guess I'm quite relieved about that though I feel bad for going on about something that isn't available now.

Oops, my bad and thanks for reading!
