Rambly LOTD: From the Makeup Pouch

By icyabstract · October 27, 2012 · 4 Comments ·

Hello everyone!

Haven't posted any LOTD mentions or popped my face on here in awhile so I thought I would do a rambly 'little' entry with... well, no clear purpose!

It is also partially because I was trying to entertain myself and drafted part of this this up while sitting at the boy's office yesterday, along with snapping the pictures! Long story short, we were out and about when the boy got called in to help out with some last minute design changes etc, those in design... you know, clients.

Anyway, I spent Thursday night back at home-home and since it was an impromptu decision, I didn't bring or pack anything extra.

When it comes to cleansers, moisturizers, clothes and whatnot, thankfully I have those readily available there but when it came time to slap on some makeup before heading out, I had to rely on what I could dig out from my usual makeup pouch.

It's a mad simple look because I don't bring all that much around with me, just enough to touch up the bare minimal - brows, foundation (no concealer even!), liner and lips.

Though in truth this has been how I have been loving my makeup looks lately – simple, put-together and fresh. It could be fresher with some under eye concealer and maybe blush but oh well, we make do...

Plus, my skin has been on a good streak of late so I like the idea of lighter foundations (powder, mainly) to allow the skin to peek through as opposed to packing layers on and 'masking' it. Though I still reach for some liquids and bb creams when I feel like switching around.

Here's what was used and the whole look took me less than 5 minutes:

  • Biore UV Aqua Rich SPF50 PA+++ (which is nearing its end!)
  • MAC Brow Crayon in Flirt
  • K-Palette Real Lasting Eye Pencil (not my absolute fav, but it's decent so I carry it around for touch ups)
  • Shu Uemura Lipgloss in Corona Orange
  • MAC Studio Fix Powder

I don't know if I am having a case of post-haircut-remorse but I somewhat miss my long no-bangs look. Or at least I miss how it looks over in this LOTD entry.

Perhaps I had gotten used to how quick and easy the no-bangs look is that with side-swept ones now, I feel they can be a little fluffy, messy and hard to work with sometimes but oh well... I am sure I will get used to these side-swept bangs again soon.

In my boredom (at the boy's office), I had also snapped shots of other stuff I carry around in my makeup pouch but I'll put that up in a quick entry to follow, just so this isn't too rambly!

Hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend thus far!

Mine started real great and aside from getting some errands and necessary trips out of the way, I definitely had a great time having a tomyam steamboat session with the fam back on Thursday.

Well, the fam consisting of my brother and mom since my dad was on a work trip abroad and the boy was ot-ing. Though don't pity him too much, he had a sumptuous Korean dinner at work. Ha!

I can't wait for a trip to the airport on Sunday to pick my dad up.

I have no idea why but a part of me just loves going to the airport, strolling around, sitting about and all. How about you?

Can you put together a quick look with the contents within your makeup pouch?
Do share!

Have a great long weekend everyone and thanks for reading!

K-Palette's New Launches!

By icyabstract · March 4, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Very vague title here, I know, but if I threw in the product names, I fear that would take up 30% of the entry itself! Perhaps it might not... but regardless, new to us this March is K-Palette's 24H Real Lasting Eyepencil and Zero Kuma Cover Control Concealer.

K-Palette 24H Real Lasting Eyeliner Pencil, Waterproof (Super Black)

For K-Palette eyeliner fans, this may call for a celebration as the Real Lasting Eyepencil is known to have done very well in Japan, with 500,000 pieces sold within a year. That would be over a thousand sold per day.

With K-Palette's packaging not varying much from each other, those who have not heard of this might be wondering what is so different about this new inclusion?

Well, this time around it is a twist-up pencil instead of the liquid liner offering K-Palette has (on our shores) thus far.

What is interesting is the cap isn't a pull-open one, it's actually a twist-open. So using this requires a lot of twisting - twisting open the cap and twisting the product up. In all honesty I still can't get the hang of it and always pull at it stubbornly till I remember it's a twist-open. Tsk.

It swatches well and doesn't feel dry or cause tugging when used. I find with these twist-up pencils, they tend to start out great but towards the end it does dry up a little, taking more work to get that pigmentation on. Though I haven't used this to it's dying days so I can't say that applies, it's just a general observation.

Back to this, it swatches a decent shade of black. Not the darkest I have seen but it's good enough and it doesn't skip when applied.

Just because a comparison is a must, here it is swatched beside my all-time favorite MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved.

The K-Palette pencil swatches darker than the MAC one and since the MAC is a pencil (which I often don't bother to sharpen to a point), it can't achieve as thin a line as the K-Palette pencil.

I did a mini smudge-test once the swatches had settled down, just because.

The K-Palette swatch actually survived through a shower, though granted I wasn't scrubbing at it but it did have soap and water running across it, along with light towel-drying after.

I often get asked why I love the MAC liner this much when it's not the darkest nor the most smudge resistant through hand swatches but... I've always found that it just works for me. Also because I don't rotate pencil liners much because I am always fearful of getting a panda-eye when out but I shall give this K-Palette a shot since I do love their other products and this seems promising!

24H Real Lasting Eyepencil is available at Watsons at S$19.90. If you are situated abroad, you can purchase it at beautycarousel.com.

K-Palette Zero Kuma Cover Control Concealer

I skipped out on reading the information about this and hurried to take the product out thinking it was just a normal concealer so I was quite surprised at the orange tone it has (which you'll see later). As it turns out, this Cover Concealer line is targetted at the under eye region to hide those dark circles and discolorations to make your eyes look instantly awake.

This comes in 3 different shades with varying properties to care for your undereye area.

Shade 01 Natural Beige – conceals light undereye circles, has special hydrating ingredients to moisturize the under eye.

Shade 02 Yellow Beige – light shade that covers dark circles caused by pigmentation or skin dullnes, contains brightening ingredients

Shade 03 Orange Beige – conceals dark circles caused by poor blood circulation. contains ingredients to relief tired eyes and improve blood circulation.

The one I had received is 01 Natural Beige, for light undereye circles. I wouldn't classify my undereye circles as light but while 01 is the mildest of the bunch, or said to be at least, it seems to cover pretty okay.

Shade wise I don't find it very pale on despite it being the lightest shade and the tinge of orange is quite apparent once blended out. It is not a strong orange tone akin to correctors but it seems to be sufficient to combat light undereye issues. I am a little wary that it could cake up the undereye since the formula isn't very thin but I could be worrying over nothing and I wouldn't know till I give it a try!

One point I don't fancy about this would be the applicator.

It adopts a typical tube gloss applicator which is something that baffles me. For one, I would most likely not dab this straight on the under eye area because it could be hard to control the amount of product, getting foundation on the tip etc. Yet if you apply this to your fingers, you will get a smear of product on the tip (as seen in the right picture).

Completely puzzling isn't it, the choice of their dispenser.

Zero Kuma Cover Concealer is available at SASA at S$19.90. If you are situated abroad, you can purchase it at beautycarousel.com.

Regardless, I will be giving these items a try and feedback again on what I think about them!

LOTD: Anna's Blues (+ outfit!)

By icyabstract · December 4, 2010 · 18 Comments ·

Hello everyone!

I haven’t been updating due to a busy period at work with this up-coming event. It is a good and bad thing to know that the end is drawing nearer; good because it will all be momentarily over (it’s a bi-annual event) and bad because things are always bound to go wrong at the last minute. It’s my first time handling this event and I am all alone on the design side as the other designer had left. So that’s why I whine about working overtime and having loads to do because I am handling two person’s share of work :(

But anyway, this was the look I wore to work today.
Yes, a Saturday. Insert another sad emoticon.
I try to wear colors on weekends, since I’m wearing browns all week. My work place isn’t particular about needing to have neutral makeup so unless I’m in a rush, it’s colors for work on Saturday!

Today I decided to use the blue Anna Sui duo I got from this gathering. Believe it or not, this is my first time using this one. My bad, I was always using the purple duo.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
K-Palette Eyebrow Liner in 01
Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation
Lumiere Invisiveil (to set)

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Anna Sui Eyeshadow Duo in 04
88 Color Palette (darker color, brown blending, highlight)
K-Palette Eyeliner in Black
Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
Revlon 3D Mascara

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Redhead

LIPS
Canmake Lip Concealer in 01
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
Silky Girl tube-gloss (really just clear gloss)

Highlighted products have been provided to me by companies/distributors.

It seems I turn to greens and blues a lot when I’m going for colored looks - I believe I have already mentioned this. I have used other colors in older LOTDS but it seems it’s just greens and blues these days.

How about this:

You all suggest a color for me to use the next time I do a colored LOTD! If it doesn’t look horrid (ha-ha) I shall post it up! Or even if it does look bleh I’ll post it, just ‘cause.
So list a color, one color and I will try to incorporate it.

Lastly, my outfit!

Saturday is the day where you can dress casual (and wear blue jeans), in the words of my colleague, you could even wear a bikini to work and no one would care. Not that you really should…

The dress-top  I am wearing is actually my boyfriend’s shirt. I always snag from the boyfriend and brother’s wardrobe. It’s a little short at the sides so I wore shorts under, also because I am still going to work (though shopping after!).

So that’s it, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend; I know I am! I am trying hard not to think about work on Monday.

Thank you all for reading!

LOTD: 'Throw-on-and-go' Smokey Blues

By icyabstract · September 1, 2010 · 31 Comments ·

For today's look I did not have a plan of what shadows/colors I wanted to use. I just started grabbing random stuff and ended up with this. All I had in mind was that I did not want to do a neutral look.

Even though I went out in the middle of the day and even though the only place I went to was my driving school, I decided to do something a little smokier - although this is really more day-time smokey to me since it's so mild.

Why smokier? Because I am starting work tomorrow (Gasp!) and I am sure that is the start of a neutral rut for me. Granted I can still do 'heavier' looks on weekends but what I have learnt from my internship period is, I do prefer letting my skin rest on Saturday and Sundays. If I can help it I would wear little to no makeup since I am putting it on Monday - Friday.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
Rojukiss BB Cream
Revlon New Complexion 2-way Whitening Foundation
K-palette Liquid Brow in 01
MAC Browset in Show Off

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Models Prefer Must Have Shadow Compact
ELF Eye Transformers
NYX Single Shadow in Atlantic
28 Color Palette
K-palette Liquid Liner in Black (lining the lid)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved (lining lower lashline)
Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo Mascara
Za Cutie Curl Mascara in Long Lash

CHEEKS
Maybelline ExpertWear blush in Two to Glow

LIPS
Canmake Lip concealer in 01
NYX Round Lipstick in Circe
LA Girl Glitter Gloss in Crystal

Highlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

I don't normally do this but here's a shot of the items I had used on my eyes. I decided to include an explanation in this LOTD since I did 'throw-on-and-go' resulting in using a number of products rather randomly.

Here is a breakdown of the individual colors I used within the palettes/quads in terms of placement and all.

1. Models Prefer (Taupe Shade) -
Blend all over lid

2. ELF Transformers (Blue) -

Blend on outer 3/4 of the lid over Taupe shade

3. NYX Single Shadow in Atlantic -

Pat lightly on outer corner

4. 28 Color Palette (Off-white)
-

place on inner corner of the eye

5. 28 Color Palette (Mid-Brown) -

Blend in crease where taupe/blue stops

6. 28 Color Palette (Beige-White) -

Highlight color

Incase it seemed so, I haven't got my hair cut or anything, it was merely braided. The bits falling infront are the layers that tend to loosen themselves after awhile. Though I must say, I have been thinking of geting my hair cut at about shoulder-length... but of course I don't have the guts to. One day - one day I will cut it, I just haven't decided when.

I'll end this post with a photo of what I have on my nails right now.

A simple variation to the white french tips. I figured it's best to keep it simple for work (for now!) but I still wanted to make it look interesting at the same time. It is just something about french tips, I've always liked having them on.

Thank you all so much for reading and I'll see how often I can manage to update while working!
