Goodies: CLIO Professional Art Collection (& Twisturn Turnliners)

By icyabstract · December 20, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

I had plopped a quick shot of this on instagram when I retrieved them on a home-home visit (p.s. if you don't already know, I now stay with the boy and my home is called home-home) and haven't got to featuring them till now.

My bad!

This entry was actually pre-drafted before baby arrived but I wanted to properly proof it once more before live-ing it, which is right now hence the super late mention!

I'll dwell into the Art Collection in a bit but first up, a quick look at the Waterproof Twisturn Turnliners!

Available in 8 shades from defining shades to jewel-like tones and brighter accent shades, the Twisturn Turnliners are twist-up liquid liners which according to CLIO have amazing long-lasting properties.

Here's a look a swatch (not mine!) of the shades available:

Shades are:
Star Silver (1), Star Gold (2), Brown Earth (3), Urban Khaki (4), Stage Navy (5), Night Purple (6), Club Black (7) and Urban Black (8).

Of the lot, I received Night Purple and Urban Black to try out. Though looking at the swatches, I am intrigued with how Club Black looks and I think Star Gold would be so perfect as an accent liner in many different looks.

I don't normally read instructions when it comes to makeup, especially for things like liquid liners, but if you are using the Twisturn Turnliners for the first time, instructions are actually very handy!

Why?

Because these liners require you to do more than the usual of open and twist!

So, you first remove the tape....

Then you remove the protective ring followed by 'snapping' that gap (where the protective ring was) shut.

Make sure that the gap is connected properly and shut all around so the product doesn't leak!

Once you have done all that, you can go ahead and start using the liner! From here on it should be pretty straightforward, twisting up as much as you need and line away!

I didn't twist it up to use for these shots so here's a look at the clean brush but I'll share my thoughts on the liners soon.

Before I move on, check out the Twisturn Turnliner CF to see them in all their party spotlight, glitz and glam along with the brand's (forever flawless) spokesperson, Lee Hyori.

I swear, that lady never ages!

Now, away from the loud party scene and bold lights to something a little more abstract and serene, the CLIO Professional Art Collection.

While new to me, CLIO's Art Collection has been around since 2005 and have worked with various artists, reflecting their unique art pieces as part of a graphic and funky product packaging.

Due to the fun and artistic look of these, this range has become an instant best seller and it's good to know that we now have this much talked-about Art Collection on our shores!

So here's a look a quick look at the items I have on hand.

Art Lipgloss (S$23.90)

Containing Vitamin C and E to help protect and nourish your lips with use, the Art Lipgloss is available in 6 shades from peaches to pinks.

The one I have here is A122 Glow Orange and unlike the color stated within the name, this is actually a lovely peachy-pink shade.

The Art Lipgloss is packed with flecks of shimmer and has a nice amount of color to it, definitely far from going on colorless.

The gloss has a nice shine and does not feel sticky or heavy on, providing a subtle plushness so you don't feel the grit of the shimmer bits.

Every item from the Art Collection features a piece of work from an artist and you will be able to find out more about it (such as the artist's name or piece name) from the box!

Art Lipstick (S$23.90)

CLIO Art Lipsticks are infused with sunflower oil and kernel oil to help keep the lips moisturized and plump. Though don't let that fool you into thinking that these lipsticks are mushy and buttery because while they do glide on, they feel quite firm as well.

The 6 shades available are an assortment of pinks, corals and beige with 1 of them being a red.

The shade I have here is Grace Pink (26) and while it may look more like a beige above, it does swatch a fairly light pink-tone when on the lips.

Art Shadow Trio (S$25.90)

With an oven-baked formula, these CLIO Art Shadows are available in both a duo and trio option. Though the one I have here is a Trio in the shade Forte Gold Black (416).

Described as silky and smooth, I beg to differ a little as I found the texture residing on the drier spectrum though thankfully it doesn't swatch chalky and picks up just fine.

The pigmentation isn't intense but that is expected with most oven baked formulas. Though there are some pretty stellar ones out there, this isn't it yet it's not all bad either!

For what it is worth, it is perfect for the usual Asian makeup trend of translucent and sparkly shades with subtle definition.

Art Blusher (S$33.90)

Probably my favorite of the lot (and favorite to a few mentions I have seen), the Art Blusher is made up of luxurious pearl pigments and is also an oven baked item.

Maybe because this is a blush / cheek item, the oven baked concept works a whole lot better here seeing as you need not (or rather prefer not to) pick up a large amount of product during application.

Available in 4 shades, I received Peach (1) which I pretty much love as this sort of shades are what I reach for most often.

The texture is not exactly creamy but not considered dry either and while there are golden glits and bits embedded within the marbled swirl, these don't seem to cause unnecessary fallout or mess during application.

And a quick shout out to this thoughtful and decent inclusion, the flat brush found within the Art Blusher.

While it isn't a show-stopper, the flat brush is nice and convenient with extremely soft and gentle bristles.

I actually found myself brushing this on my skin absent-mindedly in the midst of the photo-op.

The only fault with it would be that it could be denser, especially for something that comes with an oven baked product (which doesn't pick up as easily as pressed powder items). Though it works good for quick sweeps while you're out and I guess that is what matters!

So that is my not-so-quick run down of the CLIO Professional Art Collection and Twisturn Turnliners (grr, always have to slow down while typing this).

I had a chance to put together some items, or rather all the items (except for Night Purple Turnliner) for a quick look so that will be coming up shortly! This one isn't pre-drafted (heh), so I'm still writing bits and pieces of it when I get the time!

Thanks for reading!

Introducing (& On My Nails!) – Ruby Kisses HD Nail Polish

By icyabstract · August 18, 2012 · 4 Comments ·

Maybe polka dot nails were a little too cheery and cutesy to have on long-term and got tired of them pretty soon. However, it is still a fun nail option so dotty nails will make a comeback, fret not!

A small part of why I got over the polka dots so quick was because I recently received these Ruby Kisses polishes and of the 4 shades, 2 of them were just beckoning and calling out to me...

Made in Korea, these Ruby Kisses HD polishes are available in 18 different shades at our local Watsons stores. While I don't have the whole kaleidoscope of colors to showcase, here are the 4 vibrant shades I have:

Peach on Fire

Electric Purple

She a Goldigger (I'm amused with how ghetto this sounds, goldigger term aside)

Bold and the Beautiful

Being completely new to this brand, I would say I approached it with some caution. By caution, I mean that I prepared myself for the scenario that it could be hard to apply, perhaps streaky or have a long drying time. I know, I sound a little crazy.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that these ended up being an ease to work with, from the opaque formula right down to the brush.

The brush is rather wide, short (not too stumpy either) and flat, which is everything that I love with a nail polish brush. It was easy to control and paint the polish on and you did not have to go over the nail multiple times because the brush spreads and covers the nail pretty well.

Formula-wise, it was another surprise and I found this decently opaque with just 1 coat though I did about 1 1/2, just to smooth out any probable bald portions.

The dry time with this is quite impressive and part of it is due to the fact that it dries down to a satin-ish finish – not a glossy effect yet not matte either. The perks of that is that you need not fear about 'imprinting' on your polish and if you do need some gloss you can always use a topcoat.

So, with the polish introduction done, here are some pictures to follow!

Could you have guessed what were the 2 shades I used in the manicure?

As the base, I painted on Electric Purple and while the immediate image to follow shows a hot pink, this is exactly how the purple is like. Under certain lightings it comes off as a pink, but under others it is somewhat a magenta-purple.

(with camera flash)

(with daylight lamp)

I can't even tell you which is more true to how it appears in person because I have seen this lean both shades on my nails and it really depends on the lighting that I am under.

That aside, the above is a 1 1/2 coats though I only covered some portions by the sides with that extra 1/2 coat. The finish is, as described, rather satin-ish. It does have a muted shine but not enough that I would call it glossy.

To complete this, I tipped the edges of my nails with Bold and the Beautiful !

French tips are incredibly common, I know, but it's a simple and cute way of adding something more to the manicure!

While Ruby Kisses polishes claim to be chip-resistant and long-lasting, it's a pity I couldn't test that aspect out since I slapped on some Seche Vite topcoat right after for a little glossiness.

Thus far I have worn this combination for 5 days now and am getting a little bored of it. I seem to get intrigued by the brights and bored of them really fast, like how I have a plan for Peach On Fire and She A Goldigger...

Will share on that shortly ;) Meanwhile, you can also check out Holly Jean's and Monica (Beauty Oshaberi)'s swatches of other Ruby Kisses shades!

Thanks for reading and hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! I'm trying to switch to productive mode but my brain is refusing to start up.

Ruby Kisses are available at Watsons for S$9.90.

Goodies: Peripera – Whimsical, Flirty and Romantic

By icyabstract · November 25, 2011 · 5 Comments ·

In an earlier entry I had gone through what I received from the CLIO Professional brand and highlighted a competition that they have on right now, go check that out if you haven't!

In this entry, I will be talking about CLIO's sister brand, Peripera!

A quick look at the packaging itself and it is obvious to see the different directions and mood that CLIO and Peripera give off.

"Imagine a makeup brand which awakens your inner romantic, a brand that allows you to feel fun, flirt and modern, a brand that makes you feel youthful and brings out your carefree nature."

Founded in 2005 with a name derived by Persian mythology, the above would be how Peripera describes their brand to be. That would explain the feminine and girly packaging that has a splash of pink no matter where you look.

The Peripera range available right now sees an introduction of eye and lip products. Most of the products come with a little troop of color variants to choose from.

My Color Lips (S$19.90) in Sugar Pink

To be honest the minute I saw the casing I was immediately swooning over it. Tinted pink with cute lacey-flower motifs all over it, is that not princessy? Even though I'm not an huge princess-themed lover, this would still be adorable to carry around.

My Color Lips is available in 6 different shades that does a pretty good job of covering the spectrum from corals to pinks. There aren't any beige-nudes (not that I can remember) if you are looking but they have some comfortable neutral-nude shades available.

The shade I chose was Sugar Pink and in person the color turned out to be exactly what I thought it would be (from the name).

Sugar Pink is a light milky pink shade but isn't bright that it borders on barbie pink. I can picture this being a lovely shade to wear with a smokey look or a switch up instead of red lips with a classic bold winged liner.

This is one of those lipsticks where you'll need to hydrate beforehand because it seeps into cracks and accentuates dryness like nobody's business. I haven't worn it out so I can't comment if it's drying but texture-wise it is creamy yet the stick of the lipstick is firm. So to explain that, it doesn't smosh product on yet what is distributed feels creamy, somewhat like Canmake's lipsticks actually.

I find I will have to properly blend it in with my fingers after applying so it's all evenly spread out.

Wonder Kiss Gloss in Angel Pink

Not too sure the price of this product but if anyone knows do drop a note and I'll update it.

From the tube it's a vibrant hot pink but the gloss itself isn't heavily pigmented upon application. Instead the gloss is translucent with flecks of glitter and shimmer running through it. While the gloss is translucent, it does hold some color and adds a hint of 'life' on. I say life because on me it's somewhat a red-pink and gives my lips more definition but due to it's translucent nature it will give everyone a slightly different look.

The gloss doesn't feel sticky on, in fact its quite hydrating and gel-like. The watery, translucent texture of it makes it look very glossy once applied and the only term I can really think of to describe the gloss now is juicy.

The bubblegum-my scent to it with a tinge of fruitiness doesn't help avoid that description as well!

Here's a swatch of the gloss and lipstick against a white background.

Wonder Talk Lip Balm (S$8.90) in Wonder Orange Red

The last lip item I have here is a lip balm that comes encased in a cute metal tin.

What is interesting is that this lip balm comes with a little magnetic knob which left me clueless about for awhile.

Apparently this knob can be used as an applicator, to save you the hassle and fuss of dipping your fingers into the product. Since it is magnetic it shouldn't be found far from the metalic tin and can be stuck on and carried out. The magnetic force is even strong enough for you to pull open the tin cover with! Now that's pretty cool and cute at the same time

The inside of the balm ihas a jelly-ish clear texture on the outside and a solid toned lip pattern in the centre. The jelly portion is said to provide the moisture and hydration while the lip pattern gives you the tint.

I didn't manage to swatch this yet because I didn't want to destroy the lip pattern. Perhaps I could do feature it in another entry sometime down the road and talk more about applicator at the same time.

This fruity and yummy smelling product is available in 6 different flavors!

Flash Color Eyes (S$11.90) in Rose Pink

On to the eyes, while they have brought in a nice range of shimmery eyeshadow shades they also decided to bring in a pearlescent range of eyeshadow creams to help amp up the bling!

The 6 shades available seem to run on the more pastel side with creamy baby blues, royal purples and also a bronze, amongst others. Again my decision has baffled myself because I rarely wear pinks so I can't remember why I chose this but perhaps to place under my usual browns in the morning to brighten my look up?

Or maybe it's because I don't have any pink bases in my stash and I thought a baby pink shade would be a lovely inclusion.

The product glides on easily and does blend out without a need for tugging on the lids. Even though it is pearlescent and shimmery, it still comes off with a pnk tone instead of just a pale almost white-pink.

I'm looking to check out the other shades they have in person. I love the idea of cream shadows but most of the time my nails get in the way of cream pots and brushes don't do it as well for me so these cream sticks are good options.

My Color Eyes (S$7.90) in Secret Garden and Bronze Sparkle

Lastly, with vibrant color and sparkle, these powdered eyeshadows have a layer of amino acid coating within them to allow for long lasting wear.

The pan comes embedded with a lacy flower-y motif that would wear off quite quickly with usage.

Right: Bronze Sparkle / Left: Secret Garden

The eyeshadows feel smooth to the touch and you will be able to pick up both the base color and glitter well. In some cases the base color may come off chalky or perhaps the glitter picks up more but it's generally even application for this.

I personally find the brown to be more pigmented but both work and apply well.

This could just be me but I found a slight difficulty with opening Secret Garden due to the packaging design, I didn't really have an issue with Bronze Sparkle but it comes and goes. With Secret Garden the lid snaps quite tight and since the bottom is rounded it's hard to get a proper grip to open. I can't say for how well the shadows are packed and if it will survive a fall but just becareful when opening.

While I have loads of brown shadows just everywhere, I noticed that the My Color Eyes shades have a sheened base color and little glitter flecks that peek out here and there.

I tried to look through my stash for browns that are similar in that way but I couldn't quite find something like it in the same tone. So maybe my brown stash isn't extensive as I thought, I have room for more then?

In my mind I thought I Nuovi Metallogy looked similar but in fact it's nothing like it. Texture, color and finish wise, it's completely different. LA Girl does share one similarity with the base color being a sheen but LA Girl's sheen is a whole lot stronger and a different tone of color.

The only shade that was similar would be the bottom half of this Canmake duo but it is in a completely different shade altogether.

Both have peek-a-boo flecks of shimmer running through them.

That, would be all the items from Peripera and while is the end of this entry I will still be using these items in LOTDs to come so keep a look out for them dropping in here and there!

I think Peripera's products are decently priced and are in a range where it doesn't hurt to pick up one or two to try if something catches your eye. Both CLIO Professional and Peripera are available at selected Watsons stores.

Goodies: CLIO Professional + Contest to win Girls Generation Tickets!

By icyabstract · November 24, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Hello!

in this entry I would be going through and showcasing the CLIO Professional items I had received. There would not be any in-depth reviews here but I will go through the products, provide swatches and share my initial thoughts about some of them.

I wanted to post up the Peripera entry first since I did not given that brand much mention in my last entry. However, I just chanced upon this pretty cool contest that Clio is holding so this goes up first! Details of that at the end of the post but judging from the title, you should have an idea what it's about.

First up, some brand background...

CLIO Professional was conceived by a group of makeup artsits in 1993 and has since established itself to be one of Korean's top makeup brands.

Available in Singapore right now is CLIO's Kill Black, a range that is pointed at accentuating the eyes with liners and mascaras. Apart from the typical black liquid liners, there are some colored liner offerings that help bring a sparkle to the look.

CLIO also has a range of other things like bases etc but those aren't available on our shores just yet. Hopefully in time the entire collection will be easily accessible to us!

For now, here are the items that I received to try out.

The above are all the items that are currently available to us. Of course some items come in color variables so in a way this isn't everything.

First up the liquid eyeliners.

When I was asked to choose between the Brush Liner or Pen Liner I was quite confused about what the difference was but I wasn't too interested in trying the Pencil Liner so I opted for the first 2. Now, after seeing and swatching it, I know the difference... It's really about the tip of the applicator, as you will see with the close-ups, and how that affects the application.

CLIO Waterproof Pen Liner Kill Black (S$22.90) in Black

As usual the seeping into little crevices thing is a common thing with liquid liner swatches but I find the same thing doesn't happen on the eye so fret not.

CLIO Waterproof Brush Liner Kill Black (S$25.90) in Black

As part of a promotional bundle, the Brush Liner comes with a mini O'Tank Volume Mascara.

A quick initial comparison about the above two liners, if anyone is interested to know the difference between them.

The Pen Liner is basically a hard, sort of marker-styled tip. The only other liquid liner I've used that comes with an applicator as such is the Hour Glass one though I'm sure there a couple others out there. The Brush Liner, as the name goes has a brush tip. Similar to the K-Palette liner, I find the CLIO one is a little 'softer' and more flexible, which is a good or bad thing depending on the individual.

The pigmentation is quite a difference with the two but while the Brush Liner's swatch photographs brown, it's actually not. It's definitely not as dark a black as the Pen Liner which is pretty true to the range name - Kill Black. I think the applicator tip plays an important role in how pigmented the product dispenses as my Hour Glass liquid liner with the pen tip is also really pigmented compared to my Kpalette brush tipped liner.

But that's my 2 cents (or 2 rambly paragaphs!) on those products. I'll have to give them a whirl before I can comment about anything else like wear etc.

Moving on....

While we're on the topic of mascara.

Waterproof Mascara Kill Volume (S$29.90) in Deep Black

The brush of this mascara is pretty cool. While it's not exactly visible in the picture, since it just looks like a typical asymmetric brush here, it actually twirls around in a rather unique fashion. Not crazy different (think Lancôme Fatale) but it will be interesting to see how those bristles work out.

A slight digression but I always feel a slight pang of guilt when receiving or impulse buying mascaras. I take awhile to go through them and don't fancy the thought of opening one just to test it out for a week and chuck it aside after. Mascaras tend to breed bacteria pretty easily so with that I am even quick with my wand shots, just in case. Ha, oh well. I will probably jump to this as soon as I can because I'm pretty intrigued by the idea of this whole Kill Black range. Please do promise Kill Volume!

While this range is titled Kill Black, things aren't all that dim and dark as there are sparkly and pretty colored liners as well!

Eye Love You Eyeshadow Pencil (S$16.90) in Night Navy

Apologies for the blah picture but the box is a lot prettier and more reflective in person! (Darn flash!)

Photos don't really capture this but it is gorgeous in person! The slight shimmer, which you can already see from the tip of the pencil, looks beautiful against the darker navy tone of the pencil itself.

Since this type of pencil liner requires sharpening, CLIO had provided a sharpener with!

I haven't tried the sharpener out to see if it shaves the product off or not but will drop that in another entry when I get the chance to.

And last but not least, a pretty cool item!

Gel Liner and Cake Eyebrow Pot (S$27.90) in Violet

The product comes packaged with a dual-ended brush, one side for the gel liner and the other for the eyebrow cake.

the brush quality is, in my terms, workable. The quality of the bristles isn't something to shout about but it does it's job if that's what you need.

Now the fun part is the two-tiered product itself, with the brow cake on the 'upper-storey' and gel liner on the 'lower-storey'.

Hello finger print magnet packaging! I am liking the holographic effect coupled with the bronze-ish pewter casing, I'm horrible at describing colors as such.

If I'm not mistaken the eyebrow cake is only available in this shade. IEven then, the shade should be able to cater to most because it doesn't go on that heavy so the intensity can be adjusted. It also sits nicely in the neutral zone without pulling too warm or ashy. If I were using this I would go with a brow liquid under and this over, to fill up any gaps and smooth it all out since eyebrow cakes alone don't cut it for my close-to-nothing brows.

The gel liner that comes with is available in three different shades - Black, Brown and Violet.

Since I've had enough black to last me awhile, I chose Violet.

I'm a little disappointed with the gel liner and sort of hoping that perhaps I got a 'bad' one or that this is just the surface texture. From the swatch you can see that it did not apply very evenly or look very creamy. It seems to be on the dry side and while picking up product isn't too hard, not a lot gets on the brush. You'll end up with a faint-ish line (like the right purple one) unless you go over a couple of times.

Will try using this again and hoping that the bottom will feel creamier but I can't deny that the violet is a gorgeous shade with little flecks of multi-glitter. If you can't see the glitter, squint at the pot in the picture above, the graininess you see is not image noise!

At the end of me packing up my photo op, I decided to run a little smudge test. After all, I had given the swatches ample time to settle down and 'dry'.

In the photo above you can also see the intensity difference between the Pen Liner (above) and Brush Liner (below).

Here's the result of my fake smudge test scenario.

Everything still looks intact! The colored liners are a little dulled out but it's all good. If anything, there was some glitter migration from the test (see full view to spot them) but otherwise they lived.

Has anyone else tried out the Gel Liners? Do let me know what you think of the texture and if it's just mine that's on the dry side.

CLIO Professional Contest!

I had actually just found out about this as I scrolled through my twitter feed so I thought why not include this in for those interested!

CLIO is giving away 2 FREE tickets to see Girls Generation live in Singapore on the 9th of December.

All the information and what you have to do can be found over here!

While the first price of winning the tickets is attractive there are other prizes as well such as a S$200 CLIO hamper so no harm in taking part and submitting your creative KILL BLACK looks!

Deadline is the 7th of December at 10AM.

I am toying on the idea of taking part just because I wanted to see Girls Generation and the tickets were wiped out, boo...  Shall see if I will be able to think up anything creative before then.

Thanks for reading!

Clio's Kill Black & Peripera on our shores!

By icyabstract · November 22, 2011 · 4 Comments ·

Hello!

Taking a break from setting up and customizing to do up a blog post! In the midst of figuring Adobe out so I'm running on the trial version right now but all's good... for 30 days!

But anyway, to the point of this quick entry...

Clio and Peripera have made it to the shores of Singapore!

They were brought in by the same lovely people who brought Skin79 to us. The Kill Black range from Clio and full makeup range from Peripera have been available from end October at selected Watsons outlets.

I had received a variant of products from both brands and I'm quite stoked to give them a shot, especially so for Clio!

Lee Hyori is currently the 'muse' for Clio and when I saw her promotional pictures sometime in early September it piqued my interest to research more about the brand and want to try their products. One point would be how gorgeous the photos seemed to represent the products, provided those are the exact ones used in the photoshoot!

I guess it would also have to do with me being a mini fangirl for Lee Hyori. She's gorgeous and has a great personality on shows, I could go on but I'll stop.

And to think I would not be swayed by a spokesperson or pretty promotional image!

If you remember, back when I first announced my inspiration for turning to purple/plum shadows, the image I featured of Lee Hyori was one for Clio's Gel Liners (namely the purple shade).

Here's one of the many promo pics she had for the Kill Black range, along with a CF (video commercial).

Sorry there isn't much of a mention of Peripera here as I'm rather new to the brand myself but I will be doing feature entries with swatches and product pictures of what the items I had received. There will be one for Clio and one for Peipera so stay tuned!

Thank you for reading and sticking around my blog-draught!

Samples from Koreanthings

By icyabstract · August 4, 2010 · 4 Comments ·

Hey all!
Here's the last of packages I had received during my hiatus period.

This is a little different primarily because I was given samples of Korean cosmetic and skincare products from Hyings, owner of Koreanthings.

Koreanthings is a blogshop that sprees korean goods from many brands, most that I have not heard of. Hyings noted that I rarely mention asian beauty brands, especially korean ones and wanted to let me sample some products and share with you all what I think about them.

The samples provided are:
• Skin Food Black Sugar Mask
• Tears. More Wrinkleless Rebalancing Lotion
• Tony Moly Dual Effect Sleeping Pack - Intense Repair
• Laneige Water Bank Essence
• Baviphat Magic Girls BB Cream

Samples are not enough to call for a full review because they are valid for 1 to maybe 3 or 4 uses. So, similar to what I had done before with the Benefit Erase Paste, i will be doing a series of mini reviews. These are almost like initial observation from a short term period of using a certain product. It might not be the most informative in terms of long term usage but gives you an idea of how it is - especially for BB creams.

I am still a total newbie in terms of asian brands. Sure I did know about the existence of some brands like Etude House, Laneige, MISSHA etc but I never took much interest in many asian brands until now. Thus, this would be a good way to try out various products from korean brands and hopefully find some products I love.

For those seasoned to korean brands and looking to get your hands on some goods, you can visit Hyings's blogshop - Koreanthings (shipping within Singapore only). She has an ongoing spree due to close on the 15th of August, and here's a quick photo I've grabbed from her site, showing the brands you can order from:

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for mini reviews! Mini reviews will be a blog-only segment, it seems a little tricky to do video reviews of samples.

Disclaimer:
Don't think samples need a disclaimer, right? But in any case,
I was given these samples but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Skin79 Part 1 - Dinner Party & Product Sampling Event

By icyabstract · April 10, 2010 · 23 Comments ·

Skin79 is a Korean BB Cream brand that I am pretty certain majority of my readers have heard of, including a good handful who are familiar with it. If you are not too well-versed with the brand, fret not, that was exactly where I stood before attending this product launch.

I have heard of the brand Skin79 and have briefly browsed their products online, but I am not very familiar with what they have and their history. It's no surprise since they are a BB cream brand and I had reported that a prior experience with BB Cream (namely Rojukiss BB Cream) has left me nothing but a negative impression of the BB family. However I am wiling to try and see if that impression will change with Skin79.

After all, Skin79 is a highly raved and sought after BB Cream brand, ranking No. 1 in sales in not only Korea but also Japan and Taiwan! Talk about impressive.
Here are some little tidbits about BB Cream and also Skin79, if you aren't too familiar with either or want to find out more.
- as usual, click image to enlarge -

One unique selling point of Skin79 that sets it apart from it's BB Cream brand competitors would be: Skin79 carries a wide range of BB Creams to cater to many different skin types and needs.

This is a quote from Damien, who is a Chief Operating Office at StarAsia Singapore, the company that brought Skin79 to our shores.

So regardless your preference be it shimmery, dewy, natural, full coverage, light coverage etc, Skin79 has different BB Creams to cater to those different preferences! I know this sounds right out of an infomercial script, but I kid you not, they do have a variety of BB Creams to choose from.

As with all BB Creams, these (sadly) only come in one shade and might not be suitable with certain skintones (namely MAC NC/NW 40 and darker). Someone should come up with darker BB Cream tones too, now that would be revolutionary.

At the product sampling event we got to play around with a good number of their products - swatching and snapping photos. I will be posting swatches, initial opinions/findings of the products we had played around with in a seperate blog entry, so as not to plonk on too much information and make this entry way long.

In the meantime, here is coverage on the event and of course the lovely goodie bags we received.

The Dinner Party event was held at Essential Brew, a restaurant in Holland Village (right beside The Body Shop, for reference). We were being ushered into this private room upon arrival. The room had also been decorated with helium-filled ballons to create a girly and decked up feel the Skin79 brand has, it's definitely paying attention to brand image here!

There was also a little 'center piece' or rather display of the Skin79 products:

As dinner commenced, Lorraine (Brand Manager of StarAsia Singapore) talked to us about the brand Skin79, along with product information and all. She also helped answer our questions throughout the entire session.

(and that's Damien right there on the left!)

Since this is a Dinner Party, how can we not feature some food along with the blog entry?
This is the menu we were presented with once we had settled down, we were asked to pick our desired main course from the list.

Our starters. These were shared dishes and the baby potatoes (the center dish) were so good!

My main course - Cajun Dory.
The fish was really nice. The rice wasn't too bad but the sauce on the rice was quite.. unique (for lack of better word). It was sweet and that was just a bit odd.

But that is it for food. We destroyed the dessert the minute it arrived, didn't take photos of that.

Back to the makeup....
As I said this session was pretty relaxed and fun, we sat around and chatted while having dinner and swatching makeup at the same time. I forgot to mention earlier but some of the bloggers present were: Chantana, Joyce, Mag, Iris, Tiphanie, Clara and Christy. It was awesome meeting up with familiar faces again! There were 10 bloggers in total, but I didn't recognize everyone.

The following are just photos of us swatching and playing around, or doing our 'job' I suppose.

I sat closest to Chantana and Joyce so we ooh-ed and aah-ed at stuff together. Mag came over to chat and Clara (who sadly left early) sat close by us so we had little photo-ops together.

Joyce looks so cute here!

And here is a super cute photo of Chantana. We were joking about how much we loved the products and that we wanted to bring them home.

She didn't take anything of course! But it's a super cute shot.
Chantana has tons more fun shots from the event, I didn't take that many since it was hard to self-cam in the dim lighting (results in blurry photos). Can't wait to see her post, I'm sure to be snagging some photos for my facebook page.

As wth most events, we left with a goodie bag in tow!

I know this entry is getting way long, I'll get this part done with quick. Imagine if I put in the mad swatching session we did at the resturant. It would take you a year to finish this blog entry (I exaggerate...).

With the goodie bag we received two full sized BB Creams:

VIP Gold Super Plus Beblesh Balm - dry/combination skin ($36.90)

Hot Pink Super Plus Beblesh Balm Triple Functions - oily/combination ($36.90)
And yes! Jolin Tsai is going to be Skin79's celebrity ambassador.

I would want to rave about how cute the packaging is but I'm sure you all have noticed how pretty and quirky the packaging is. It almost looks like a soda can to me!

Lorraine reports that the Hot Pink seems to sell better then the VIP Gold BB Cream. Aside from the pink packaging being generally more attractive to girls, I can understand why the Pink one might sell better. First off, the skin type would be the main reason since I assume most Asians in this region tend to have oilier skin then dry skin?

Following that, I did a little swatch documentation of both BB Creams, though I don't know what for since on camera it looks indifferent.

I have found that the consistency of VIP Gold is a little thicker then Hot Pink. Hot Pink feels almost wet, not watery but smoother and easier to thin out. VIP Gold isn't a lot thicker, but it doesn't feel as 'wet' as Hot Pink is. Hot Pink might be easier to blend out and use on a daily basis. VIP Gold is said to be a more intensive version of Hot Pink, hence the minor thickness.

Here's how they both look completely spreaded out. I can't judge the coverage since I have nothing to cover on my arm. I'll leave that for next time.

This is going to sound insane since you can't really see a difference in the photo (click to enlarge, the quality is better) but Hot Pink gives the skin a nice reflective sheen. Not very obvious but it does have a slight natural look. Almost MUFE HD Foundation-esque.
VIP Gold on the other hand provides a satin almost-matte finish.

I guess you could consider those mini reviews! Speaking of mini, within the goodie bag we were also given a little travel size BB Cream along with a cute charm.

Each charm was customized to match our initials and mine was an 'S', S for Sara!

Bling bling!

I am pretty excited to try these BB Creams out, they feel nice when swatched on my arm and they have a nice scent too. Never thought I would be this excited about applying foundation.
But anyway that would be it. Phew~ That was quite a long post!

I don't think I've mentioned this all important detail yet!
Skin79 will be launching in Watsons on the 26th of April!
It will be in 40 Watsons outlets. Some sure locations are Ngee Ann City, Parkway Parade and Bugis.

Thank you so very much for reading! Head on over to Part 2 where I feature swatches, opinions/feedback on texture and all that jazz of more Skin79 products we managed to play around with at the event.
