Diorific True Colour Luminous Lipstick – 340 Diorling (Swatches)

By icyabstract · October 7, 2012 · 5 Comments ·

I have here one of beautifully classic pieces from Dior's Grand Bal, Holiday 2012 Collection.

As you can see, the packaging design is absolutely stunning to both hold, admire and have in the stash. It was a slight pain to photograph too because I kept catching myself in the reflection of it (and gave up dodging in the end) but that's not the point...

To accompany the classic grandeur, the lipstick has a slight weight to it but nothing too heavy that would make it a hassle to carry around.

The shade I opted for was Diorling and based on what I had seen from swatches and mentions online, I was quite surprised when I uncapped my press sample.

This was before I read the press file and took note of the shades available but it seems, as mentioned in my Dior Grand Bal overview entry, the shades available to us differ from the US launches.

From Musings mention and Temptalia's mention, you can get a glimpse of the vibrantly bold US version of Diorling (which is numbered 037).

The local version, numbered 340, while not what I expected shouldn't be discredited.

Our Diorling 340 sits on the more neutral and wearable side of things, leaning a little pink and a little coral at the same time with a hefty amount of fine gold iridescence running through the shade.

In terms of formula, this takes a slight step away from the lustrous glaze-like formula that we have seen quite a fair bit these days.

I want to say this is drier but that would not seem appropriate either.

The Diorific Lipstick formula is creamy but stays close to the lips once you have applied, such that you need not fear it slipping, sliding or migrating around. There is no tugging involved nor is it difficult to achieve an even, beautiful finish on the lips.

The final color pay-off would best be described as a satin but thanks to the load of iridescence in it, provides a more dimensional look in a different way that something lustrous and glossy would.

I do recall seeing lipsticks of this finish before but due to the influx of glossy translucent ones filling the market these days (especially for nuder shades) this seems like a novel thing to reach for again.

I can't stress enough about how lovely a neutral this is. Definitely not boring with that golden glimmer it gives off when it hits the light.

Though one negative about Diorling 340 is that since it has a golden sheen and is a formula that clings closely to the lips, it does have a habit of accentuating any fine-lines or dryness that you may have. Thus those who battle such problems may be less than pleased with the results of swatching this on.

In some cases, this might require some prepping beforehand but otherwise, it is still a lovely finish and shade to have.

With this, I get about 3-4 hours of wear perhaps due to its lighter and more neutral quality. I don't know how the bolder reds will fare but I did not notice any staining with this (obviously because it'a s nude, ha!). The color also cleans right off with a serviette, leaving my lips as they were, without the golden sheen.

It doesn't feel drying on but it is certainly not moisturizing either.

Here's how the lipstick looks from afar, the golden shimmer not as apparent but still lovely. I really do love the tone of pink it becomes on my lips.

The Diorific Lipsticks retail for S$49 and will be available island-wide from 1st November 2012 onwards.

In the meanwhile, check out what other products will be launched with Dior's Grand Bal collection if you haven't already.

Thanks for reading!

Tutorial: Natural Peaches (Selena Gomez Inspired)

By icyabstract · August 20, 2010 · 19 Comments ·

It's about time for a tutorial!

This is one for the Selena Gomez series, but like I always say you don't have to be a fan of hers to watch this tutorial.

The reason why I chose this photo to make a tutorial of would be to sync it with a current makeup phase I am going through. I have been loving the crisp, clean and sharp line look that you typically achieve with liquid liner or gel liner. This look so happens to encompass that so voila~ Enjoy!

Here's my rendition of the photo above:

Products Used:
EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
MAC Eyeshadow in Brule
Za Eyeshadow Trio in E2
88 Color Palette
K-Palette Liquid Eyeliner (Non-waterproof)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour NEO Mascara
K-Palette Real Lasting Volume Mascara

CHEEKS
MAC's Blush in Eversun

LIPS
Canmake Lipstick in 22

LOTD: Slight Maquillage Feature #2 (& Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick)

By icyabstract · July 1, 2010 · 11 Comments ·

Another LOTD post! I had wanted to post photos from my graduation and do a vlog entry but since I don't have those photos on hand now I'll post up some other entries that are sitting in the 'holding' area. Namely this one!

This is a rather old Look of the Day, though one that I had repeatedly done during my hectic final project period. I would explain why I favored this look in just a bit but for now here are the photos and the list of products I had used. In some photos you can see the ulcers formed from where I had accidentally bit my lip, please don't mind that.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
Etude House Baby Skin Foundation in 02
Revlon Loose Powder (to set)
K-Palette Brow Liner in 02

EYES
Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
Maquillage Palette in BE763 (middle color - all over lid)
L'oreal Palette in Golden Tan/Fair (dark and medium brown - crease and outer-v)
28 Color Palette (highlight)
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Mascara
K-Palette Mascara (layered over the MM one)

CHEEKS
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Nectar

LIPS
Maquillage Perfect Lip Rouge in PK112

Highlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

I didn't layer on much of the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick for it to show up very obviously. This is a product that does require some building up for a more obvious effect. I don't mind that so much since that means I don't have to be overly cautious with how much I pick up with the brush and I can simply swirl away!

The all over lid color I used in this LOTD was from the Maquillage Palette in BE763 (the middle color). As mentioned in an earlier LOTD featuring this palette, I love how the eyeshadow shades have this brightening and light-reflecting effect. Sort of like how it is captured in this photo:

I like how this effect seems to 'give life' to the eyes by making it seem brighter and more awake. I have learnt that putting makeup on tired eyes (from the lack of sleep) can sometimes enhance how tired and dull it looks, so I turned to using brighter shadows and voila it worked!

I have probably been repeating how these shadows have a brightening effect and you are all bored of it by now, but I am amazed at how pretty the sheen of these shadows are. Not gritty or 'oily' looking, just a perfect sheen. I do love the lipstick color as well and this shade seems to be my favorite of the ones I ended up with. More about those in future. I'm planning to do a lipswatch entry since I haven't done that, look out for it!

Thanks for reading and I'll try to post more colored looks now! Or at least stray from neutrals for a bit.

Click here if you wish to see the original LOTD entry.

I might be trying to get through some requests for past LOTDs right now. Mainly to clear up the requests a little since I have owed some past-lotd tutorials for awhile, I thought I'd get through them first. Plus they are also a littlle faster to do.

MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
MAC Plushlash Mascara

Tutorial: Copper Spice (Back to school look using drugstore products)

By icyabstract · September 5, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

So here is yet another neutral look.
I was requested on youtube to do a Back to School tutorial and though I know I am a little late (as most schools in the US started about a week ago), here it is nonetheless!

I know there are tons of Back to School looks on youtube covering a range of different techniques and yada, so I wasn't sure if I wanted to do one. But as I was requested, I thought I would just do my spin on it.
To make it a little different from my other tutorials I have decided to only use drugstore products in this. The only thing I used that wasn't drugstore would have to be Urban Decay Primer Potion as I honestly didn't have a substitite for that.

Tutorial link at the end of the entry!

Products Used:
EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion (sorry! I don't have a drugstore primer)
- Canmake Color Stick in white (NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk works too)
- Revlon Colorstay 12 hour quad in Copper Spice
- Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black Brown
- Cover Girl Mascara (Waterproof)

CHEEKS
- L'oreal Blush Delice in True Rose
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzer Powder in Luminance

LIPS
- Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze in Neverending Nude

LOTD: All Dolled Up (Outfit)

By icyabstract · June 12, 2009 · 21 Comments ·

NOTE: The photos taken in this LOTD was before I had colored my hair Strawberry Blonde.

I hardly wear dresses, much less baby doll sort of dresses so when I do it's kind of like playing dress up to me. I wouldn't say cosplay because that's pretty extreme but more of 'being someone else' and that's actually fun to do every once in awhile. To try wearing an outfit that is totally different from what you would typically wear and style yourself differently too.

I had recently purchased this really cute baby doll-esque sort of a dress from Forever21 and decided to wear it out.
To complete the look, I thought it would be kind of fun to incorporate the doll-styled makeup look as well.
What I mean by that is the Japanese style of makeup where it's all cute-sy and sweet looking with those trademark large eyes.

Here was my take on it, it was definitely not the best but I tweaked it a little to suit me:
(click on pictures to enlarge them)

A little accessorizing is always fun.

Products Used:

FACE
- Za Two Way Powder Foundation (Blue one)
- Maybelline Angelfit Blush in Peachy Sweetie

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Groundwork paint pot
- Silky Girl Blockbusters palette in Bare Classics
- Revlon Colorstay quad in Nude Elements (highlight color)
- Rhomlon Liquid Liner in Black
- Rhomlon No.28 Black eyeshadow (line under-eyes)
- Za Cutie Curl Mascara - Volume

LIPS
- Za Gloss Vibrante in G8

For those who are wondering, here's the baby doll-esque dress from F21 that I was talking about. It might not fit everyone's definition of baby doll but I guess it falls into that category in mine.

So that is my take on being inspired by the Japanese styled makeup and finally you guys get to see me in a cute-sy dress.
It's not something that happens often, so revel in it! ha, I'm joking.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Tutorial: Selena Gomez Inspired Naturals

By icyabstract · June 4, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

Pardon the absence, apparently youtube hates me and would not load the tutorial video thus I can't publish this entry if I don't have a tutorial to link it to.

Anyway, I am pretty sure that most of you are familiar with the term 'makeup without makeup.' For those who are not, it's using makeup to refine your complexion and emphasize the features without over-doing it and look as if you've caked on a ton. In short, it is a look that looks so natural it's almost like you woke up looking fabulous (so to speak).

Makeup without makeup can be defined several ways, such as a simply refining the skin, or to refine the skin and play up on the features in a subtle way. For me, it's the latter and in this tutorial I would be doing a representation of what I consider is makeup without makeup. This look was also inspired by a celebrity who carries this off really well, and she is Selena Gomez.

Awhile ago I received a request from a subscriber to replicate Selena's simple, youthful yet polished makeup look that she is always spotted donning. Granted Selena does have glamorous red carpet looks, I though that this would be a better choice to stick with as it's something you can throw on for formal events such as interviews, school, etc.

I am not too huge on the overly 'natural' appeal of makeup as I cannot bear to part with my liner. Nonetheless, it was fun to try something different.

Picture I was inspired by:

Photos of my look:

Products Used:
FACE
- LA Girl Blush in Subtle

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- 28 Color Neutral Palette (colors mentioned in the video)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Cover Girl Lash Blast Mascara

LIPS
- ZA Vibrante Lipgloss in G8

That's about it! I know I have been doing a fair amount of natural looks of late, but trust me I would be getting back to colors. I just feel that natural or neutral looks are a lot more helpful since majority would benefit from it. Either ways, I hope you all found this helpful/interesting and thanks for reading/watching (:

Tutorial: Au Naturale

By icyabstract · May 20, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

In this tutorial, I had actually re-created a Look of the Day that I had previously posted.
In fact, it was my very first Look of the Day entry on here, if I am not wrong.

Turns out one of my youtube subscribers came over to my blog, saw that entry and requested for me to do a tutorial on it, thus I did (:
And with this I just want to briefly explain that one of the reasons I do Look of the Days would be to let you guys see what I have on and perhaps if you are interested, you could request a tutorial for it. After all, I always get requests as ambiguous as 'purple eyeshadow look' and I'm pretty stumped as to which direction you guys would like it to go. Therefore, I feel this is a pretty good idea, requesting tutorials of past Look of the Days.

One last thing I want to touch on regarding this LOTD-Tutorial thing would be that in the videos, I wouldn't be posting new photos of the look, unless I changed too many products etc. Since I am re-creating, I feel it's only right to include the original photos of the look, since I'm re-creating it.

Finally, here is the look that I recreated, and the link to the tutorial:

LOTD: Wearable Golden Brown

By icyabstract · May 17, 2009 · 0 Comments ·

I suppose most people would associate the color Gold for the eyes to be a little exaggerated and not fully appropriate for wear during the day.
But to prove that theory wrong (well, sort of), here's my take on how to incorporate Gold eyeshadow into a still rather wearable look for the day.
Of course we all have different definitions of how wearable something is, this is my take on it and if it's still a little over the top for you, you could instead envision it as a subtle night look.
If you're wondering, this was what I wore to my boyfriend's mother's birthday lunch.
(For those who follow my twitter, yeap I twittered dinner but it was changed to lunch after)

Products Used

FACE
- Revlon New Complexion One-step Compact (cream to powder foundation)
- JJANG Powder (to set foundation)
- MAC Bronzing Powder in Bronze
- LA Girl Tender Touch Blush
- ELF Healthy GLow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Silky Girl Funky Eyelights in Solid Gold (base)
- Rhomlon palette (gold e/s)
- 28 color palette (1 skin toned matte color as highlight under brow bone, 1 warm chocolate brown to blend harsh lines in crease)
- Canmake Dual Color Sparkle in 05 (darker brown on the outer corner)
- MAC's powerpoint liner in Engraved
- Cover Girl's Lash Blast

LIPS
- MAC Blankety Lipstick
- L'oreal Glam Shine Gloss in Endless Shine/6H

I don't know if I was able to accomplish the goal of proving that Gold eyeshadow can indeed be wearable, but it's okay. This look is definitely one that I would definitely go back to if I were stumped for eyeshadow combinations.
Thanks for reading and I hope everyone had a good weekend.

Tutorial: Neutral Golden Olive (Work-safe)

By icyabstract · April 20, 2009 · 6 Comments ·

Finally!
That's probably what most of you guys are thinking the minute you read the header of this entry.

Yes I know, and I'm sorry I haven't done a tutorial in ages but here you go!
This tutorial was filmed during the period of time that I was having my internship thus the work-safe theme.
Also, while viewing the following pictures of the look you might think 'isn't that a little too dark?' etc, well fret not as in the tutorial video I did mention (or rather suggest) methods to tone it down a little. I personally don't like the au naturale look too much so I tend to overdose on liner and black eyeshadow most of the time, but that's just me.

I always talk too much, here's the link to the tutorial:
VIDEO// Tutorial: Neutral Golden Olive look (using L'oreal Color Minerals)

Here are the pictures!

I hated my brows that day, I guess I went a bit happy with lining'em but I've learnt from that mistake! haha.

Products Used:
FACE
- Silky Girl O2 Liquid Foundation
- JJANG Pressed Powder (to set)
- Color Workshop Bronzer
- Silky Girl Blush in Honeywood
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

EYES
- UDPP
- MAC Paintpot in Groundwork
- L'oreal Color Minerals in Nude Crystal
- L'oreal Color Minerals in Golden Olive
- L'oreal Color Minerals in Golden Sienna
- Rhomlon No.28 Shadow, Black (optional)
- MAC Powerpoint Pencil in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone Primer
- Revlon Luxurious Lengths Mascara

LIPS
- Maybelline Water Shine Pure in Naturals 101

That's that!
Thanks for reading, much loves (:
