LOTD: Neutral Lid + Crease Look (feat. Too Faced Glamour To Go)

By icyabstract · May 11, 2012 · 3 Comments ·

Yes, another attempt at that whole neutral no-colored lid with a crease look again. I'm really not stopping till I find a good enough way to replicate it and I think I may have just found the perfect colors to!

I probably have similar colors in my stash but I so happened to have Glamour to Go out and thought: Why not pair this nude shade with this cool brown...

..and voila! This was pretty much the look I was going for at the start and now I know that an ashier brown proves a better effect than a warmer one. For me at least.

Incase you missed it, I attempted this sort of look here.

Yes, eyelids are still wonky! Grr.

Okay... essentially a neutral eye is still a neutral eye but I guess my point of this entry is to showcase how with the same palette you can do a darker smokier eye look, such as this one, or a simple neutral eye.

The shades I used for this look would be:

Shade 5 all over the lids
Shade 1 in the crease
Shade 4 to blend at the edges

This image was from the violet look, hence the numbering but I only used 3 shades from this palette for this look.

I also have on a dab of pink from the blush within this palette. Though it swatched fairly soft and gentle it does give off a nice color when worn.

As of now I have since retired this palette from my counter-top to 'preserve' it for when I need to use it during trips or slumber parties but you may still see a look or two from this every now and then if I happen to reach for it!

On the whole slumber party note, I will be having a little staycation at MBS this weekend! A bestie managed to rope us in for it, not a PR thing, and I'm just sooo stoked about it!

Thanks for reading and TGIF!

LOTD: Glitzing Up the Neutrals

By icyabstract · February 20, 2012 · 9 Comments ·

The work week has started and in an attempt to live in the weekend mood, I'm posting up a look I had done over that period but didn't managed to find time to post.

I rely a fair bit on colored liners, especially so for shimmer/sparkly ones because they are such look amp-ers. On days where I have little to no time to get ready for an event or occasion, what I normally do is start with my makeup and think of what to wear while in the makeup process. This often leads me to grabbing a fail-proof neutral combination that would work with whatever outfit I decide upon.

Over time, neutrals can feel a little boring for events or occasions, so what I like to do is top it off with a streak of color (shimmery or not) over my upper lid! I feel this simple little thing does glitz up the look and it's easy to accomplish.

Just thought I'd say, I have more shots than usual of my eye because I couldn't choose and they all felt necessary to showcase the glitziness of it.

The boyfriend was photobombing, again, and I didn't have time to retake the pictures after. I did choose the ones without him doing weird expressions and all so... try your best to ignore him okay?

(yes he was attempting to creep up on me in the above shot...)

What I used for the gold lining is Beach Babe glitter from Lit Cosmetics, along with their Clearly Liquid Glitter Base™.

Thus far I have only been using these as sparkly liners and not patted them all over the lids yet. I don't think my inner-diva is ready to come out anytime soon and a glittery lid is more than I can handle... but who knows, right?

Regardless, these make pretty glitter liners and with use of the Glitter Base, I noticed close to no fall-out. There will be some very minor migration on the lids after a long wear but otherwise, after 5 hours it's still intact and not raining glitter down my cheeks.

A 5 hour later shot, no lid imprint or anything.

In other news, aloha nude lips!

I still had to do the thing of dabbing another lipstick color over just so it isn't all that nude but otherwise, it's nuder than what I'm used to these days.

That is it for reliving the weekends! if you like this glittery shade, you can stand a chance to win it (along with the Glitter Base) in my giveaway! Giveaway closes on the 23rd of February at 10pm (+8GMT).

I personally love this line of color/shimmer thing and have used it a couple of times in my looks, though nothing quite as glittery as this one!

Do you like to line your lids with a glittery shade or color for that added pop?

LOTD: Majolica & Laneige Styling Lip Duo (Xmas parties start now!)

By icyabstract · December 18, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Christmas is just around the corner and I find it funny how according to past years, most celebrations never fall on Christmas day. There are some celebrations here and there within the next week but on Christmas I always find myself just bumming at home and going out for a casual 'festive' meal.

In short, Christmas day is always the most relaxed out of all the other celebrations, at least in my case!

That aside, earlier today (or rather yesterday as it's past 12) my workplace had a cozy Christmas Lunch Get-together with the usual gift-exchange, mingling, and food - lots & lots of food...

Since it was a lunch affair I didn't feel like doing a colorful/smokey eyelook. The other truth would be because I decided to hit snooze one too many times... I know it's lunch but that kind of coincides with my weekend waking hours. heh.

While I've never slackened off my browns, I haven't reached for a taupe shade in awhile. Most of the browns I normally use are warmer in tone, somewhat like the highlight-to-crease blending shade used in this look.

Since I kept my eyes plain I decided to play up my lip color.

I used Laneige's Styling Lip Duo in Pink Glow and despite the milky texture of the gloss the overall color is quite an eye-catching cool-toned pink.

Mid-way through doing my makeup, my right eye decided to go all red on me hence the scariness of it in these photos. Thankfully the redness went away on my journey out.

Products Used:

K-Palette Eyebrow Liquid in 01
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77

Majolica Majorca Eyeshadow Quad in BR751
28 Color Palette (crease blending/highlight)
CLIO Professional Brush Liquid Liner in Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Dollywink Volume Mascara

CHEEKS
Canmake powder blush in PW11

LIPS
Laneige Styling Lip Duo in Pink Glow

Here's a shot of the Majolica Majorca quad in question.
(didn't swatch the gold shade because I didn't use it)

The light almost-white shade has a pink sheen to it which clearly doesn't get captured. I almost forgot how beautiful the taupe shade here is and am now reminded of why I always used these Majolica Majorca quads during my schooling days.

With that, I'm ready for the party! I tried taking a picture with offizcat while I had my santa hat on but that little bugger struggled and pawed at my face so... just me.

And offizcat getting what he deserves!

Nah, just kidding. It was more like there was food laid out so poor kitty had to be locked up in his cage.

LOTD: Old Yet Newly Found Makeup Items!

By icyabstract · December 2, 2011 · 4 Comments ·

During that scary short period when my previous macbook pro had given out on me, I managed to make use of that time away from the computer to do some constructive things to my makeup stash!

By constructive all I really mean is spring clean, get rid of things that needed to be thrown out which ended up not being too successful. Though in the process, I discovered some items that I was really fond of before yet had now chucked to the back of the drawers.

They weren't chucked because they are bad or anything but rather due to rotating and trying new things, I might have forgotten about the old. It was nice to take them out once more and place them on the counter top in plain sight. With that, lately I have been reaching for and using these items for my everyday work look!

Here's a little swatch palette of the above products.

By everyday work look I mean if I were just going to the office and back, simple stuff without meeting or events.

My double eyelids always go through weird phases and in the above you can kinda see how wonky they get sometimes. Super annoying if you ask me!

I actually used a brown liquid liner on the lids but I set it with black eyeshadow to give it that brown-black softened look instead of a harsh black. I also skipped out on using mascara because... well lets just say I've gotten to a fairly lazy stage of daily makeup.

I completely skip out wearing my contacts and trot around in my glasses on a daily basis. It's so much more casual and gives me a couple more snooze minutes too!

It can be quite a chore to wrestle contacts in everyday especially with tired or weary eyes so I've just reached a point where my daily routine and going out routine is starting to differ quite a bit!

I can't imagine how I used to do the full works when I had to be up at 6 plus in the morning with my previous job.

All that aside, I really do like the Revlon Copper Spice quad because it gives the right amount of color and definition while keeping it subtle, it's such a pretty quad with lovely shades! I had done a tutorial about it before so you can check it out here; It's not entirely the same look but it's close.

Products Used:

BROWS/FACE
K-Palette Liquid Brow Liner in 01
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77
Baviphat Fresh sunscreen
Cezanne Powder Foundation

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Revlon Quad in Copper Spice
K-Palette Liquid Liner in Brown
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved

CHEEKS
LA Girl Powder Blush in Spice

LIPS
NYX Lipgloss in Smoky Look

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

To further emphasize how casual I've taken my daily routine these days I'm actually switching over to either a powder foundation alone or at times coupled with a bb cream instead of my usual liquid foundation.I realized that I have a few bb creams just sitting around while I indulge solely in my liquid foundations so it was time to switch that up.

I received a twitter mention to talk about my current makeup routine so I'm thinking to talk about that because I'm currently loving the Cezanne Powder Foundation, even more so then the ZA 2 Way Foundation or at least what I remember of it. Though more of that soon!

I hope you guys don't mind me rambling more in my recent entries. It's like all of a sudden I feel it's more fun to 'talk' through entries though I know it ends up being wordy which makes me miss making videos but hey I'm not going to get all nostalgic and word vomit here!

Have you rediscovered anything new from your stash of late?

LOTD: Dolling up in Neutrals

By icyabstract · July 4, 2011 · 22 Comments ·

It's been awhile since my last neutral LOTD that it almost seems like I don't do neutrals anymore? In fact, I still do them more then ever, it's just that I hardly document them since half of my LOTDs are probably neutrals.

Though it's about time to feature them once more, and this was also the look I did for the My T.A.K. Shop mini photoshoot that I had done.

I started the look fairly typical and tried my hardest not to solely use my Sleek Storm palette. Theoretically that palette on it's own would have been perfect but I wanted to rotate around my stash and use things I've not touched in awhile, such as my LA Girl Platinum shadows.

The look pre-falsies.

The falsies I used was this old pair I found lying around. I'm not even sure where I got this from but I ended up really liking it! The lash band is rather long so I had to trim some of it off and the band is stiff too, but I find I work better with stiffer lashes for now.

Does anyone happen to know where these random brand lashes are from? I'm suspecting something like Daiso, but I could be wrong. If you happen to know, do let me know!

After adding lashes, the neutral look was too blah so using L'oreal HIP's Color Chrome liner in Gold Charge, I drew a gold line just above the lash band.

I didn't have any lip product on in the above shots but after changing into the outfits, I used YSL's Faubourg Peach. Though you can check out the look with my hair down and proper in the My T.A.K. Shop photos.

Products Used:

FACE
MUFE HD Foundation
Pore Putty Face Powder (to set)
Kpalette Brow Liquid in 01
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Bobbi Brown Longwear Cream Shadow in Sandy Gold
MAC Gold Dusk Pigment
Majolica Majorca Palette in 355
LA Girl Eyeshadow in Radiant
LA Girl Eyeshadow in Snowflake
LA Girl Eyeshadow in Beige
K Palette Liquid Liner in Black
L'oreal HIP Color Chrome Eyeliner in Gold Charge
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Eyelashes

CHEEKS
I Nuovi Blush in Dolly

LIPSTICK
YSL Rouge Volupte Lipstick in 30 Faubourg Peach

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

I rarely wear the false lashes plus colored contacts combo unless it's for a quick thing like photoshoots whereby it's just faster to get decent shots this way. I can't say I feel 100% comfortable in either falsies or colored contacts so wearing both at the same time is not a walk in the park for me.

Give me mascara and my normal lenses any day! But I have to admit I do like the combined effect they give.

Oh and p.s. I was wondering if anyone would like a post about the b2st fan meeting? It's pretty unconventional, yes, but the photos are just sitting in my folders and I feel I need to share it to make the experience more worth while? Else where's the fun in just me viewing them. But only if you guys are interested (:

Though for kicks, here's one shot I took during the encore stage!

EOTD (feat EA Palette), 1-item Haul, Update.

By icyabstract · April 7, 2010 · 9 Comments ·

A pretty massive post here. Well not quite but I just have a couple things I want to address/go through. It sounds all formal but really it isn't.

So the holidays are over and school had just started for me which is ridiculous. It felt like my holidays had just started and now it's over, but doesn't that always happen. Here's a quick EOTD I did for school today using the Elizabeth Arden Palette I had received from my goodie bag (you can read about here).

To jog your memory, it's this palette:

And here are the colors:

I used all the eyeshadow shades but Lagoon, so yes it's yet another neutral eye.
Can't help it, I love my browns (:

Just eyeshots today, it was a wee bit early for full face shots and I didn't have much time to snap photos. Though I know I had on Sunlight Rays as a cheek highlight. I didn't use the blush from here.

Product Used:
EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Elizabeth Arden Sunlit Bronze Beauty Kit (eyeshadows minus Lagoon)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo

I find that the eyeshadows blended really well into each other to form a smooth gradient of color. It's probably odd describing it that way but you know how some shadows take a bit of work to blend seamlessly into each other, I didn't have that problem with this. The colors weren't the most pigmented, but were surely buildable and had a nice wearable intensity to it. Definitely a product I'll reach for when doing makeup for school days!

Also, a really quick update: As you know, school's back and as I had mentioned probably a billion times, this is my last school term (ever in my entire life, I hope) so I will be extremely caught up with finishing my final projects and assignments. Since this is my final term, I feel I should commit more time and energy and give it my all, so I might not have enough time on my hands to update my youtube and blog regularly.

With that said, my youtube and blog would be on a semi-MIA status in terms of updates. I might still post every now and then because I can't completely cut blogging and youtube-ing out, but I'll update sporadically. I'll still lurk around and read your blogs, but just not be able to update mine as much. I'm truly sorry for pulling this MIA-ish stunt, but it's a little phase I have to go through. I hope you guys can understand and thank you for all the support thus far! (:

It's not a very longe change though, I'll (hopefully!) graduate end-June so I'll be back in full force in July (:

Last but not least a quick little skincare haul from Watsons today.

I picked up the Acne medication that Mya (heavenlygorgeous) had recently reviewed.

I have been breaking out and I predict that I will continue to with the lack of sleep so I hope this can work it's magic on me. Plus it's only S$3.95, can't go wrong with that. The active ingredient is Sulphur, which is a rather known acne medication, one of the stronger ones too so there's only 4% of that in here. I made sure to check in case it's the deadly Benzoyl Peroxide (which I am allergic to).

So that is all! I know for sure I'll have an entry coming up either this Friday or this weekend, but that aside I'm not sure of my blogging schedules.
Hope that phase is alright with you guys, and thank you so much reading!

Disclaimer:
The Elizabeth Arden palette was given to me as part of a goodie bag.
The product mention was voluntary and all opinions expressed are my own. I am not getting paid for this.

LOTD: MU with Glasses

By icyabstract · February 3, 2010 · 14 Comments ·

I hardly show pictures/footage of myself with glasses because I seldom wear them out of the house unless I am too lazy to be bothered or if I am going somewhere nearby. Don't get me wrong, I don't see anything wrong with glasses nor do I hate them. I just feel that with glasses on I don't usually do very much with my make up. Like no bright colors or heavy liner, so I tend to wear glasses on days I am too lazy to bother with much makeup.

Today I was going to the library to do some research for school and I figured I really didn't want to fuss with contacts or makeup. So at long last here's a Look of the Day guest starring my plastic frames.

It's an incredibly simple and default neutral eye, but just to show you how I like to wear my makeup when I'm donning glasses.

Product Used:
FACE
- Silky Girl O2 Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Translucent Setting Powder

EYES
- Splash Proof Sealant
- Lumiere Cosmetics Eye Pigment in Champagne
- L'oreal Brazilian Duo (reddish shade)
- Revlon Colorstay in Nude Elements (highlight color)
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- No mascara!

CHEEKS
- Canmake Powder blush in PW11

LIPS
- YSL Rouge Volupte in No. 1 Nude Beige

Yes, no mascara! I find that with glasses at least I don't like to apply mascara because it causes my lashes to feel odd against the frame of my glasses. I know in most cases it's more important to use mascara to brighten and open your eye up, but I don't like it.

And that's the YSL lipstick I got awhile back. It's a pretty color which I feel I can only wear on occasions as such. When I... how'd you say, doll up or girly-fy my makeup? Not that makeup in itself isn't girly or anything, but I think you get my drift.

I still love my peaches and nudes you see (: Though this color is lovely.

Thanks for reading!

Disclaimer: Lumiere Eye Pigment in Champagne had been sent to me by Lumiere waaaay back. I'm using it because I love the color, I had not been asked to feature it nor am I being paid to use it. One item product disclaimers are quite random... Lol.
