LOTD: Modern Pewter in my Comfort Zone!

By icyabstract · April 23, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

Hello hello, the cheesy titles are back!

It's been awhile and I think I have been repeating this non-stop like a broken record in my recent entries but I'm sorry my blog has been a bit of a bore / deadtown of late. The reason is a mix of a thousand and one personal matters all piled up together and I can't even express how stressed out I have been for the past week. If my hair wasn't my life, I would have pulled them all off with everything that's going on right now.

Though amidst all that, I am still trying to update my blog, to save it from becoming home into cobwebs and dust! Bear with me alright!

In this quick post I want to share a look I wore over the weekend. Since I had talked about my MAC Extra Dimension haul, I figured why not throw on a LOTD with this on!

While this doesn't cover the 'simple throw-on-and-go' concept of it, it was a quck and easy to do look nonetheless.

I threw on Modern Pewter on the inner corner with a flat firm brush (like MAC's 239) and blended shades from the Wet N Wild palette on the outer corner to add dimension.

And here's how the final look is, after popping on some blush and lip color.

Do excuse the whole deadpan expression in the shots, I had a headache attack during that period and was trying to snap quick shots without staring out the window for too long.

BROW / FACE
SANA New Born Lasting W Brow in LB3
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77
Elizabeth Arden Good Morning Serum
Biotherm White D-tox BB Cream
Lancôme Maqui Miracle Compact (Crystal)

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Extra Dimension Eyeshadow in Modern Pewter
Wet N Wild Palette in Comfort Zone (crease & definer)
CLIO Professional Pen Liner in Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Dollywink Volume Mascara

CHEEKS
Anna Sui Rose Cheek Color in Anna

LIPS
Clinique Almost Lipstick in Luscious Honey

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

I kept the cheek and lips more red-themed but still light by reaching for more red-pink tones instead of my usual and casual coral / nude combo.

I'm really liking how my current hair color allows me to reach for lip shades that lean towards the pink-er spectrum, something that didn't quite sit well with my previous hair colors - both the red-red and faded orange/gold.

It seems I am going through a moss / olive green phase these days, much like how I went through a purple phase the last time.

Are you going through any color phases? Be it in terms of eyeshadows or lip colors?

Thanks for reading!

LOTD: Jewel Beetle (feat. ELF Eye Transformers)

By icyabstract · January 18, 2010 · 12 Comments ·

This was the look that I had worn yesterday, to the blogger party.
I didn't post it up yesterday because I was too tired to type another entry out. However, I did want to get this up eventually because I really like it and it features an pretty cool product.

The feature or main product used is the ELF Eye Transformers. It's a product from elf that looks like this, for those who haven't seen it:

The colors itself are rather pale pastel shades, when swatched alone they are sheer and don't provide much color. However, if you swatch these over a darker base (or I guess any color really, but it works best on darker shades), the ELF shadows literally transforms your base eyeshadows/cream shadows.
In this lotd, the colors that I used were the green (extreme left) and a bit of the gold/yellow/orange shade (2nd from left)

Products Used:
FACE
- Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Translucent Powder (to set)
- MAC Solar Riche bronzing powder

EYES
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- MAC Eye Kohl in Tarnish (as a base on the lid)
- ELF Eye Transformers in Pastel Illusions - green and yellow gold shade
- Maybelline Eye Studio quad in Autumn Spirit - lightest color right at the inner corner
- Revlon Mineral Eyeshadow Trio in Sunlit Jade - green shade blended under the eye
- Rhomlon Eyeshadow in no.28 - black
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Bone Primer
- L'ancome Fatale Mascara

CHEEKS
- MAC blush in Eversun
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

LIPS
- MAC lipstick in Peachstock
- Majolica Majorca lipgloss in BE210

I took the photos with flash so the green is a bit washed out and isn't showing up as pretty as it actually is. Bummer.

I absolutely love how the green shade turned out over a black base. It almost looks like a blackened green and reminds me of the shade that reflects off some beetle 'shells'; that really opalescent green. I haven't tried the other side of the palette but I think this product is very interesting indeed. I have layered the yellow-gold over a medium and dark brown and it does give a nice effect.
I believe this is a great product to help transform some of your everyday looks to something a little different.

Random tidbit: I was actually inspired to whip this thing out after Kas gave a pretty indepth review about it coupled with gorgeous swatches of the product.

A quick note and update on the giveaway, I'll have the winners posted sometime tonight.
I have to be out and about running some errands but once I get home I'll type the entry out. I have already drawn the winners using random.org.
More info about that on the winners entry.

Thanks everyone for reading!

Tutorial: Neutral Golden Olive (Work-safe)

By icyabstract · April 20, 2009 · 6 Comments ·

Finally!
That's probably what most of you guys are thinking the minute you read the header of this entry.

Yes I know, and I'm sorry I haven't done a tutorial in ages but here you go!
This tutorial was filmed during the period of time that I was having my internship thus the work-safe theme.
Also, while viewing the following pictures of the look you might think 'isn't that a little too dark?' etc, well fret not as in the tutorial video I did mention (or rather suggest) methods to tone it down a little. I personally don't like the au naturale look too much so I tend to overdose on liner and black eyeshadow most of the time, but that's just me.

I always talk too much, here's the link to the tutorial:
VIDEO// Tutorial: Neutral Golden Olive look (using L'oreal Color Minerals)
