LOTD: A Pink Eye and Red Outfit (feat. Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink)

By icyabstract · March 10, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

Do pardon the lame title but for some reason words are escaping me these days. It takes me twice as long to draft out anything and in some cases I do the cycle of writing and deleting for a good half an hour before deciding to give it a shot at another time.

Blogger's block? Maybe.

Perhaps I need to get back into the swing of things again for the words to flow better.

Regardless, this LOTD was from a while ago and I had totally forgotten about them till I was going through my folders once more.

I am not exactly a fan of having pink on the eyes because it runs the risk of appearing like a sore eye or just sorely off if not done right, blended right etc.

Maybe I am worrying too much but I don't think I am alone with my concerns about this color!

Though with the Shu Uemura Unmask Palette in Pink on hand, I decided to give it a whirl (with the pink that I have been avoiding for awhile) and this is what I ended up with!

I used all the shades from the palette for this look, though some in moderation and some more apparent than others.

  • I swept the light pink tone all over the lids, below the crease
  • Carefully, I applied the stronger pink in the outer-v, blending into the crease
  • To tone down the pink, I used the warm medium brown on the outer-corners, adding a bit of depth. I also used this to blend just above the crease.
  • For more definition, I dabbed the darkest chocolate right at the outer corner.
  • Lastly I used the bone shade as a brow bone highlight

Here are the shades for reference:

Call me unadventurous but aside from this look, I haven't got the guts (and time) to experiment with other ways to wear this pink.

Though with that said, I do find this look rather lovely; it is soft, sweet and emits a lovely vibe of spring (which is almost over?).

It takes some blending and stepping back to ensure that it all looks fine but I think the end-product isn't too bad! I would wear this look again if I feel in the mood for some springtime warm pink nuances!

Here's the rest of the face:

For my lips, I used Shu Uemura's Rouge Unlimited in Dark Beige, also from the Blossom Dream collection. While it looks and swatches (on my hand) as a beige tone, I was surprised that it pulls pink once on my lips.

It is still a lovely color nonetheless, just not as nude or neutral as I had expected.

So that's the pink eye and here is the red outfit!

It is a pity I did not get to showcase this dress earlier because I do love it a lot. It is a piece from MyMannequin.sg, an online blogshop that is now closed.

I don't normally like to wear long dresses because I feel that unless it is of a strategic length, it makes me look shorter but this dress is so flowy, bold and lovely that I have been spotted quite a few times in it! It doesn't help that most of my wardrobe over here consists mostly of maternity wear.

I really should 'import' my wardrobe here. As my mom says, it still feels like I live at home-home with all my clothes present.

And that's about it for this lovely weekend! Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Thanks for reading and I hope to put up some stuff soon! I have loads in mind to share!

Fashion Feature: My Fashion Affair

By icyabstract · July 1, 2012 · 2 Comments ·

Aloha peeps!

I haven't been blogging a whole lot and it's taking me a wee bit longer to start my essays these days though that's not the only 'problem' I have been having.

I haven't done a Fashion Feature in a good while that I felt completely awkward infront of the camera again and was dodging stares from all the aunties and uncles but besides the point...

here's introducing My Fashion Affair!

They are a newly launched local blogshop and since they have just joined the scene, they don't have pages and pages of clothes but they do have very pretty pieces!

Majority of their current collections are top-focussed and their tops are the sort I love to wear - long, flowy, comfy yet still 'presentable'.

With Singapore's heat and me being a 'lazy' fashion person, I love pairing such tops with shorts for an easy and comfy attire to combat the temperature. Most of these tops can also be worn in more ways then one and different pairings will give you a different 'feel' of the outfit!

The web layout of My Fashion Affair resembles the livejournal feed so scroll through the link provided under the image to find the apparel (and perhaps browse the rest too!)

Let's have a look!

[ For reference I am a UK6, 161cm ]

Live in Galaxy Top - Indigo (S$26)

Scroll through their debut collection, Living With Trend

I just about love the asymmetric hemline to this! While you could tuck this into a high-waisted shorts or skirt, I don't think I'll try that very much, just to show-off the hemline. I love how the shorter hem prevents this top from looking 'too long' or frumpy on my stature and yet it's long enough to seem dress-tunic-like.

It's quite sheer so you may want to wear a tank within if you prefer. This top is also available in black but I preferred the Indigo since it reflected the Galaxy feel a little more!

Tribal Tip Shift Top - Navy (S$27)

Scroll through their debut collection, Living With Trend

This top is a couple of my loves rolled into one - asymmetric-ness, tipped collars, layers!

While the top itself is a little sheer (as you can see), these flowy layers do help ensure the top portion isn't as see-through so you could go without a tank for this. Tipped collars are super fashionable right now and this top has one with a really intricately beautiful design.

This can be tucked in high waisted shorts or worn long though I feel it could be a wee bit 'long' for my height that way. One way of dressing this up is pairing it with leggings and heels for something slightly edgier.

This is also available in black and wine red.

Chirpy Dress - Tiffany Green (S$28)

Scroll through their mini collection, Time To Fly

I think this dress is absolutely adorable! It is available in Peach Pink and Pastel Yellow as well but obviously I chose the Tiffany Green color.

While I feel I don't have the right prep-ness or, you know, that 'look' to properly pull off a peter pan collar and make it look whimsical and cute, the dress itself is downright lovely.

For me, it's a good length and the inner lining makes it easy and comfy to wear. Though since the dress itself is chiffon, do beware in heavy winds. Still, I can't get over how adorable it is... look at those birds!

Last but not least! Here's an item that is currently not on their site but stated to launch Tuesday (3rd July)!

80's Polka Dot Top - Navy (S$29)

This top also comes with a skinny orange belt.

It has a U-lined hem and also pockets which you can utilize if you intend to wear it the comfy 'hung out' way.

When I first saw this top I didn't think too much about it but as it turns out, it's really verstaile on! it looks good tucked into high-waisted shorts and also can be worn all hung out as if it really were a dress. Due to the U-shaped hemline, do wear shorts even if you are wearing it hung out. On me, it does flash the edges of my shorts when I move around so I wouldn't say it's completely dress-length.

While this isn't out just yet, a preview of My Fashion Affair's second collection (Retro Summer) is already up!

And so that wraps up my long-time-no-see Fashion Feature entry!

I'm really glad to have these tops in my stash, especially now that I have taken to hand washing my own apparels, these are a dream! They drip dry by the next morning and barely any ironing is involved after (let gravity do the work). Easy peasy!

So do check out My Fashion Affair's website and also drop by their Facebook page for updates and previews!

Thank you for reading!

Oufit (& LOTD): Stockings, Sweater & A Touristy Day Out

By icyabstract · April 9, 2012 · 14 Comments ·

Hello! I hope everyone isn't having a premature case of Monday blues or rather, weekend-ending blues.

A lot was accomplished in this long weekend, from wedding dinners to BBQs and errand running inbetween. Amidst all that, we took a little time out to be touristy today at the Singapore Flyer and here's what I wore, makeup and outfit-wise.

The makeup I donned is yet another neutral look. One of those throw-on-and-go moments, no doubt.

I was trying to go for that no-eyeshadow with eyeshadow look. Incase that doesn't make sense, I would say its a little something like this but a whole lot more natural. Plus it's quicker to sweep a skintone shade all over the lid and work a little at the crease. Okay, I'll admit, I'm just lazy like that.

I'll have to work on perfecting it but it would be such a nifty look to do (once perfected) when in a hurry! Natural yet crisp!

Since the whole look is bordering on 'plain-natural', I revisited the old technique of lacing the lower lashline with a shimmery light tone that instantly brightens the look.

Products Used:

BROW / FACE
SANA New Born Lasting W Brow in LB3
Elizabeth Arden Good Morning Serum
Lancôme Macqui Blanc Miracle Compact

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Eyeshadow in Brule
Make Up For Ever La Bohème Palette (dark brown)
28 Color Palette (blending + highlight)
Maybelline Autumn Spirit Palette (lightest shade on lower lash line)
CLIO Professional Brush Liner in Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Dollywink Volume Mascara

CHEEKS
Smashbox powder blush in Prism

LIPS
Maquillage Lasting Rouge Perfect in RD306

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

Simple, casual but yet still a pretty put-together look in my books!

Outfit-wise, I wanted to try something new I got yet also be cosy and comfy at the same time so here's what I wore:

The top is actually this really warm fuzzy knit that used to belong to my mom. It was rather chilly in the day, so to make up for wearing shorts, I threw this knit on.

The high-waisted shorts are from Topshop.

The stockings (yes those are stockings, not high socks!) are from Risque. I received 2 designs from them last Thursday and couldn't wait to try them out! They have a lovely collection available and I'll do a proper introduction soon but here's a preview!

Shoes are from Bangkok.

Another shot of the leggings and domo-bag! Domo-bag is home to my polaroid camera because I can't bear to throw it around in my bags so it has a going-out pouch of it's own.

I love domo~

Incase you are wondering, this is how the 'transparency' of this pair of stockings look like.

Just in case, any of you are heading over to Risque before my intro post, quote 'SARA7' upon checkout and receive a 7% off your order!

And that's that! Thanks for reading!

LOTD / Outfit: My First Hens' Night! (feat. Stila In the Garden Palette)

By icyabstract · April 2, 2012 · 11 Comments ·

This weekend flew by like a blur (as always) and so many significant things have occurred, one of them being me attending my very first Hens' Night! Or Bachelorette party as some may call it.

Before I talk about the night, I thought I would briefly share some pictures of the look I had on.

If you remember my woe on twitter and seen me around events in my frames, thankfully my contacts were ready just the day before so I didn't have to wear glasses to a Hens Night! It probably wouldn't matter but I wanted to go all out with lashes and the works, which I realize I haven't done in forever!

I had amassed a couple of Stila stuff, some received and some purchased, last week and will feature them shortly but I just couldn't wait to try them out.

In this look I used shades from Stila's In The Garden Palette, their spring 2012 offering. I wanted to mix up something fun and colorful but in the end, I went for a safe smokey moss-green look. I figured I didn't have the time to experiment and given my lack of color-use lately, it could be bad.

The highlight (literally) of this look would actually be the Stila Jewel Eyeshadow in Rose Quartz that I had dabbed, very moderately, in the centre of my lids for some added bling. Though sadly, since everything is shimmery in camera flash, the effect isn't as obvious in these pictures.

Perhaps next time! But it was beautifully (and subtlely) bling in person!

Will go into details about In The Garden's shades soon but for those familiar to it, it's

  • Breeze in the inner corner
  • Sage in the middle
  • Juniper on the outer corner. Love love love Juniper!

Products Used:

BROW / FACE
SANA New Born Lasting W Brow in LB3
Elizabeth Arden Good Morning Serum
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation
Lancôme Teint Miracle Compact Powder (to set)

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Benefit Skinny Jeans Creaseless Cream Shadow

Wet N Wild Palette in Comfort Zone
Stila Jewel Eyeshadow in Rose Quartz (lightly dabbed in the centre of lids)
28 Color Palette (crease blending & highlight)
Majolica Majorca Neo Automatic Liner
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Canmake Lashes in 01 / Dolly Wink Eyelash Glue

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralized Blush in Happy Together
NARS Nico powder blush (as highlighter)
I Nuovi powder blush in Dolly (light dab on the apples)

LIPS
Make Up Store lipstick in Bare

I was in so much of a rush that I didn't put my lipstick on till I was on the way to the Hens Night, thus the bare lips in the above. Though I'm just listing the lipstick I had used, just cause!

I didn't have any proper outfit shots but over the course of the night there were some shots taken (by others) somewhat showing it. So here it is!

Taken from Nadia

With part of the gang, waiting for the rest and bride-to-be to arrive before heading in.

And a polaroid with the gorgeous bride-to-be, Clara, later in the night

Outfit:
I had on a slouchy grey tee-shirt (from Bangkok) paired with these black high-waisted Topshop shorts, along with these New Look wedges.

From the front it looks like a comfy attire but thanks to Smith's not very surreptitious shot (yes I knew you took a photo, I saw the flash!), here's the back.. which is also the reason I bought this otherwise normal looking top.

But enough about me, here's more of the bride-to-be on a night I hope she remembers for a good long time to come!

Board reads: I'm Single (for tonight)

Design done by me, caption provided by Smith and unknowingly modelled by Clara. Snagged a shot off her blogshop advertorials, muaha!

Here's the board by the end of the night, filled with polaroids taken from her missions and with us!

Picture from Jacelyn

All in all it was a night of crazy fun for us and I hope for the bride too, amidst her demanding missions. Now I know what to expect if I were to hold a hens night in future. I think I may have to rethink people I want to invite.... ha!

Thanks for reading, hope the weekend went great for you!

Outfit: Sundress turn Gypsy Skirt

By icyabstract · March 18, 2012 · 5 Comments ·

Today, or rather yesterday, I decided to reach into a portion of my wardrobe which I hardly explore.

It was a quest between a comfortable outfit and wanting something aside from my usual jeans/shorts and tee. I don't think I have been seen in a gypsy skirt before and I need some help with it so, here's an entry!

It was one of those throw-on-and-go moments so I felt a bit like a patchwork once out but oh well!

This supposed gypsy skirt is actually a sundress though the lower portion of it is slightly see through and to wear it as a dress (starting from the bust), would mean my undies would show, not cool. As a skirt though (starting mid-riff), the short inner-lining does it's job well and the see through-ish portion starts knee down, perfect!

Candid shot of boyfriend trying shoes but these were the only good shot I could get without icky noise and yellow lighting.

Top: Topshop
Skirt/dress: from Bali
Shoes: from Bangkok
Bag: New Look

While gypsy skirts are meant to be really easy peasy to match, I find them exceptionally hard to work with. Somehow, they just look blah on me paired with a normal tee and then I'm lost on what footwear to pair it with.

Thus far, this outfit is the only one I've found quite alright, pairing a sort of 'high-waisted' gypsy skirt with a croptop... and it's not really a gypsy skirt at that!

Basically I'm clueless when it comes to gypsy skirt fashion so tell me if I look like a walking disastor. Be honest!

Are you a fan of gypsy skirts? How do you pull together an outfit with them?

Thanks for reading and happy Sunday!

Look Feature: Anna Sui Spring 2012 Cheek & Lip

By icyabstract · February 25, 2012 · 14 Comments ·

The night before, I had a mind to search around my wardrobe for something feminine and floral to wear to the church wedding today. I have no particular idea why floral but I just wanted to wear something I rarely do. Though come morning, it was a whole different story...

Getting ready at 8am (proceedings start at 10am) with 3 hours of sleep left me thinking, okay whatever, I'm just going to slap something on.

Amidst all that, I did manage to reach for the Anna Sui Anna Rose Cheek Color and Double Lipgloss in Sensual Rose. Aside from the swatches I had done, and featured here, I haven't played around with these or wore them out until now.

The blush seems to sway a little pink-toned on me as opposed to the flushed-red I presumed it would be. I had spammed on a little more blush than I normally wear but this blush picks up well and one dusting is really all you need. I went for 1 1/2 because... I needed to look alive at 10 in the morning and the pictures tend to moderate the blush effect a little. The photos reflect what 1 dusting looks in person, hope that makes sense.

Here's the swatch I did in the previous post, just for a recap.

It is still a lovely rosey shade on, which I love but I think it all boils down to how and where you run your brush over and which colors you pick up on.

On my eyes I had on plain ole neutrals, nothing to it and I didn't want to fuss with colors because wearing contacts was quite a challenge in itself already. If only someone could invent tired-eye-friendly contacts!

Though if you are interested,

On My Eyes:
- Stila Kitten
- L'oreal Made For Me Naturals In Medium Fair
- CLIO Professional Pen Liner
- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Dollywink Mascara in Volume

I used both ends of the Double Lipgloss in Sensual Rose, leaving me with a pink-red lip which I think ended up complimenting the blush very well. While I love the rouge portion on it's own, it's a pretty combination and that shine/sheen the glossy end lends is lovely.

As far as outfit goes, I think it's been established that I never did end up dressing in florals. Though I did put some effort into it and dug up this dress I have had for almost a year now but haven't worn out at all.

Ignore the mildly candid hand on the right shot.

This is a cream colored dress with an interesting lapel design along the front. This was one of the first few pieces I had received from Loef (before I did fashion features) and I think they no longer have this up on their site - I think.

Do you have any guilty pieces stashed away in your wardrobe that you haven't worn?

Hope everyone's weekend is going along good and thanks for reading!

LOTD & Outfit: MUFE La Bohème Purples (Valentines Edition!)

By icyabstract · February 15, 2012 · 8 Comments ·

Hello!

Before I hit the sack I wanted to quickly churn this out because I might, might, be disappearing from here for the next few days. Usual stuff, work, nothing much to elaborate on so... moving on!

This was the look I wore out today, to work and then a quiet dinner with the boyfriend to celebrate Valentines Day. I would like to think that we are quite chill about the whole Valentines thing. We don't doll up to extremities and head to over-priced venues but yet we still bother with some parts of it like flowers and little gifts. While I agree you should show love all year round, perhaps we're still in the phase where Valentines should be celebrated, no matter how low-key.

I am predicting if we hit our 10 year mark, it will be home-cooked dinner and movie time at home, ha! If that is true, we're about halfway there!

So moving on, Valentines aside, I wanted to try a wet application method with the baked shadows from the La Bohème palette, to see if there is an improvement in terms of pigmentation.

Since I can't avoid the 14th february notion, I went for a light purple-brown combination and used the light purple shade wet.

The verdict?

The purple does pick up a little more and the shade seems more 'packed together' compared to swatches which seemed more like a faint soft touch. I would say there is an improvement albeit fairly minor but it's better than none!

I'm really liking how the little itty bits of shimmer shows up (minutely) on the eye. While it's not so clear in person, as this is a close-up, it adds a soft hint of glimmer.

Products Used:

BROW/FACE
K-Palette Brow Liquid in 01
Maquillage Brow Wax in 77
Leaders Clinic Medieu Sun Cream
Elizabeth Arden Good Morning Serum (primer)
Shu Uemura Smooth Fit Fluid Foundation
LUV Carat Long-Lasting Powder (to set)
ELF Bronzer in Warm

EYES
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Make Up For Ever La Bohème Palette
Majolica Majorca palette in BR742 (dark brown, outer-v)
Hour Glass Liquid Liner in Black
MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
Dollywink Mascara in Volume

CHEEKS
MAC Mineralized Blush in Happy Together
(used for blush and highlight)

LIPS
Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural in Folk

Highlighted products were provided by companies/distributors,
I was not obliged to use/feature them in LOTDs.

Here's a breakdown of what shades I used from the La Bohème palette and where.

  • Bottom left purple (used wet) over the entire lid
  • Bottom centre brown (used dry) over the outer half
  • Bottom right peach-tone (used dry) to blend the edges
  • Top right champagne shade (used dry) as highlight.

I didn't touch the teal and green with this look but prior to this I had done a quick look with it that I will feature soon. I figured to put this up first since it was 'in tune' with the festivities.

Quick mentions on the outfit. I donned something I would like to think of as dressy casual. I didn't want to go too cliche with a little cocktail dress or anything because, like I said, I think we're quite chill about it. I think.

No proper shots so I'l just have to turn to quick mirror shots!

Though you can't tell, dress is the subtlely leopard printed one from here, and the outer-shirt is from over here. I paired it with some black stockings so the dress doesn't appear that short and simple black pumps from Rubi.

I brought that snake ring out for some sun too and I really like how it seemed to go well with my (not so Valentines) nail color.

China Glaze's It's Alive.

Ending it off with pictures I had instagrammed, to best sum up my Valentines this year.

Lovely tulips from the boyfriend and my attempt at making Strawberry Cheese Cupcake!

How did you spend your Valentines Day? With your partner, family, friends or some precious me-time?

Thank you for reading!
