LOTD: The Plummy 'Whatever' Look (feat. Too Faced Glamour To Go)

By icyabstract · May 6, 2012 · 0 Comments ·

Some days, some very unfortunate days, my right eyelid decides to be an annoying little bugger and refuse to co-operate. How? By thinking "hey, I want to be like a monolid" and then folding in on itself.

It then becomes this super hooded lid and at one glance it appears like I have one double eyelid and one monolid. Super peeving!

The best way to deal with this, makeup-wise, is to throw on a dark shade all over the lids and then blend it lighter towards the crease. It's the most 'whatever' method and it works if I don't wish to spend time blending and correcting my usual outer-v method to fit both eye shapes.

The outcome? Well, it ends up looking a little something like this...

Look!

With the odd eyelid fold, the lashes on the right eye (your left) appear more prominent and obvious than the other. Pfft!

I have no idea why my hair looks super ultra volumized there but that pouffy-ness makes it look like I hopped out of some 80s television sitcom.

While I love how my hair looks in person, I'm actually trying to get used to how it photographs. Who knew that a slight shift in my parting would make my face seem different on camera, at least in terms of framing and whatnot. I don't know if I am just scrutinizing myself too much but I'm trying, once again, to find that almost fail-proof angle that I can rely on when snapping pictures.

That aside, I dug out the Too Faced Glamour-to-go pocket palette to use with this look! More about this palette in future. For now, here's a what goes where:

Shade 01 - Focus color near the lashline, blend out to the crease
Shade 02 - Blend along the crease, mainly the inner corner
Shade 03 - Blend lightly along the outer corner (couldn't escape my habit)
Shade 04 - Blend out harshlines along the crease
Shade 05 - Highlight!

Tada, really simple look and while I wouldn't call it my lazy look since it does require some blending and evening out on both sides, it's still rather quick to throw on.

I still love my neutrals but due to my darn lid issue I'm really trying to perfect the whole dark-along-lashline and blended out near the crease sort of look.

Do you wear that sort of look regularly? Any tips on how to best blend the shades or lay them down?

Thanks for reading, hope your weekend is going fab!

LOTD: Purple Party (+ Outfit... sorta)

By icyabstract · May 10, 2010 · 8 Comments ·

I haven't done a LOTD in forever! Mainly cause all the looks I do now are neutral brown combos, though I use different products they pretty much look like the same so I didn't bother with LOTDs.

The other day, I attended a friend's purple-themed birthday party and decided to add a smidget of color to my eye look. I started out with a boring brown smokey eye and was going to keep it at that but later on felt like layering a tiny bit of purple over.

I layered on a tiny bit of purple so it almost looks like a grape-ish purple shade instead of how the purple color (I used) actually swatches.

Products Used:
FACE/BROW
- SANA Natural Resource Liquid Foundation
- Revlon Face Powder (to set)
- Canmake Brow Pencil in 02

EYES
- Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer
- Maybelline Eye Studio in Autumn Spirit
- NYX Single Eyeshadow in Purple

- MAC Powerpoint Liner in Engraved
- Majolica Majorca Lash Enamel Glamour Neo Mascara

CHEEKS
- NARS blush in Madly
- ELF Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder

LIPS
- Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Natural Nude

Highlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

The party was purple-themed, which meant that all attendees had to (try to) wear something purple. It could be miniscule and subtle like an accessory or a full out purple dress/shirt.

I realized that for purple being one of my favorite colors, I have very little clothing articles in that shade! In the end I threw on a scarf with subtle purple lining. My shoes had purple too, but that was about it for my participation.

I should have painted my nails purple as well now that I think about it... but oh well.

Hm, lilac streak?

By icyabstract · January 22, 2010 · 15 Comments ·

This is a completely random entry. I didn't expect to have anything else to post up today but my experimental side got the best of me - I think.

For some strange unknown reason, I suddenly had the idea of 'coloring' my hair extensions. Or in this case extension, since I only did 1.
Of all colors in the world, I wanted to have a lavender-lilac shade because I thought that would be quite amusing, not to mention pretty (to me).

So I twittered that I felt like compulsive coloring my hair extension with a spot-liter (or hi-liter). You know those things you highlight paper stuf with in school?
Yeap that...

And the end result?

A single purple streak!
Too bad it's not permanent and might (hope not!) wash out in a single wash.

Now wait, I know this is not a right method of coloring your hair. I was just bored and am doing something possibly really strange. But do know that I would not ever think of coloring my natural hair with a spot-liter. I assume it is damaging to your hair.
I am spot-liting an extension which is already dead hair, so it's not so big a deal I guess.

I did color a strand that would not be in contact with my face and I did not color it all the way to the part where it is attached to my hair. Since spot-liters are like toxic and all that. I really wouldn't recommend doing it.. I have no idea why I did it. ha.

I think purple highlights are actually quite pretty but of course not over the whole head, just one streak or two...
Picture this, black hair with lavender highlights (most probably hair extensions since coloring it chemically to get that color isn't worth it).
That would be interesting, but no I am not thinking of getting a do like that right now.

So that sums up this pretty odd experiment of mine. I know, it's not health-safe, probably not at least?
But it was an interesting experiment.

Thank you for reading!

Edit: I washed my hair once and poof! It's all gone.

Soft Everyday Purple LOTD

By icyabstract · November 19, 2008 · 0 Comments ·

Okay, this is going to be my last entry for the day, I swear.

Here's the look I wore out today to collect my laptop and to (I guess) shop around the Raffles district a little.
It's a fairly simple and neutral (in my opinion) purple look which could be used as a everyday look if you feel that you love purple shadows so much that you wouldn't mind wearing it everyday.
I personally am alright with purple, but I would honestly wear black everyday without a doubt. However I have been fairly into neutral and softer looks of late.
I guess it's the whole "fall" transition and being affected by all the fall looks popping up on youtube.

Anyhoo, this is the look and if anyone wants me to do a tutorial on this look (or any of my lotds that is), simply request for it!
Via e-mai/private message/or youtube message, do not request in the tagboard as I might miss it.

I know I look odd, didn't feel very "photogenic" today. Lol.

As you can tell I'm into the whole "nude lids with color in the crease" type of a look lately.

Face:
- SANA Isaflavone Makeup Base
- Silky Girl Skin Perfect Liquid Foundation
- JJANG Pressed Powder Foundation (to set)
- L'oreal Blush Delice in Rosewood
- Elf Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Luminance

Eyes:
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- 28 Color Neutral Palette (top left color)
- 88 Color Regular Palette (light and dark purple)
- MAC Powerpoint Pencil in Engraved
- Za Cutie Curl Mascara;Volume in Black
- Canmake 4 Color Highlighter (3rd color from top)

Lips:
- Maybelline Shine Seductress in 203

What is your current "fall" look obsession?
