LOTD: Audi Fashion Fest Look (feat. Shu Uemura lashes)

By icyabstract · May 22, 2011 · 3 Comments ·

Hello all,

Just wanted to share the look I wore to the Audi Fashion Festival 2011 Shapes & Shadow show, that I had attended some time back.

I wanted to attempt a slightly smokier then usual look since it's not often that I can wear a dramatic smokey look and not feel 'too made up'.

I didn't manage to take any pictures of the look until I got back home at night, and I'm pretty surprised that my makeup still looked pretty good on even after 6 hours and blotting once. For that I will have to give credit to the Shu Uemura Mousse base, one of my favorite bases to use right now.

A nice surprise at the event was we were each given a pair of Shu Uemura lashes to spruce up our look for the night. I went with this pair and Sophia (retailtherapy) helped me put them on using Shu's lashglue (which has some crazy heavy duty hold!)

Shu Uemura - Partial Soft Cross lashes

We didn't use all the partial bits, instead we used a total of 4 pieces, 2 on the outer corner of each eye.

The effect was really natural but gave a nice emphasis to the lashes as well, I'm really liking how these lashes look on!

Haul & LOTD: Sleek Bad Girl Palette

By icyabstract · May 2, 2011 · 15 Comments ·

As I had briefly hinted in my earlier Sleek haul, I had one more sleek item coming and it's none other then the Sleek Bad Girl palette!

All thanks to Iris (rougedeluxe) for this! Now I think I am pretty set with Sleek and I don't think I would be needing anything else from them, just yet.

Bad Girl leans towards darker and smokier shades, perfect for those who love a smokey eye look. I think it's a great palette to own even for those who rarely do smokey looks on a daily basis. Say if you ever have to do one for a special occasion, all the colors you would need can be found within this palette - be it if you were thinking of a classic grey/silver smokey look or a navy twist.

Also, I guess it's not that new but Sleek now individually names their colors. Though the names are only found on the plastic insert as there weren't names on the back of the case.

If you are interested in swatches of this (and many other Sleek palettes), check here.

Feeling a little dramatic, I used this palette for a look that I wore to work on a recent Saturday. I didn't manage to get any shots at home so I sneaked some at work. Not the best photos (taken with my iphone 4) but just an idea of a smokey look done with this palette.

Now if I remember correctly, I had Blade on the inner-corner, Obnoxious in the middle of the lid and Twilight plus some Noir (which obviously overpowered Twilight) on the outer-corner.

I do like how each color except for Noir, though dark, has shimmer within in such that when it catches the light it becomes a little something like this:

Excuse the low-res lotd shots!

For blush I had on NARS Madly and as for lips, Revlon's Soft Nude.

Thanks for reading! Definitely trying my best to clear my back-dated entries now, thanks for bearing with me (:

Haul: Sleek Palettes & Blushes

By icyabstract · March 28, 2011 · 17 Comments ·

Hello all, time for a little hauling fun!

I would say (and I believe I have mentioned) that I have pretty good with hauls – or let me rephrase, not hauling for that matter. I still enjoy browsing and looking at makeup but I don’t find that strong urge to get something. Everytime I’m on the verge of buying something I think of unopened and unused stuff I have lying at home, waiting to be used up and that itself seems to be motivation to not buy.

Whatever it is, my bank is happy.

Except for the occasional treat for myself, as such.

Sometime back Kas  (cocomotion) made a Sleek order and I conveniently hitched on her purchase to get some Sleek items I’ve been wanting for awhile now. Thanks again Kas, our resident Sleek temptress :P

The main items that I wanted were the Sleek palettes and I was trying hard not to get every single one on the website. I browsed through a lot of available Sleek swatches before deciding on three.

Sleek Acid Palette

Sleek Sunset Palette

And fast becoming my favorite Sleek palette ever owned (disclaimer: for now!)

Sleek Storm Palette

I got the Storm palette mainly because of the whole earthy neutral-toned vibe it has. The browns in this palette are great for a work look with a bit of oomph as they have a gorgeous sheen.

There are a thousand and one swatches of Sleek palettes online, one example being this blog that features even limited edition palettes from before, so I shan't swatch all the palettes I got. Though, just to show my love for Storm, I will swatch and show you how I prefer wearing it for work.

I usually play around with these neutral shades, using 3-4 at a time (lid color, crease color, blending above crease shade).

And with the darker toned shades, I like to use these to set my eyeliner. It gives it an interesting reflect sheen as compared to setting my liner with a plain ole black.

The blurry shot seems to capture the sheen/shimmer a little better, so here it is:

I was thinking to showcase a couple of work looks I have done (and will be doing) with the Sleek Storm palette but at the end of it they are going to be neutrals. Not too sure how keen you all will be on seeing browns all over again but if I get the chance to I might just post up one variation or compile all the looks into one post -- Will see!

Aside from the palettes, I was suckered into looking at their blushes after Kas had raved about Rose Gold in this entry of hers.

Of course after reading that, I had to get my hands on Rose Gold. Though it would be so lonely if I got that alone so Pixie Pink came home with me too.

One coral, one pink, perfect!

I would think that I’ve had enough of Sleek for awhile but I did end up placing a small one item order in another recent Sleek purchase. It was totally a last minute thing, think surfing the website on my mobile phone at an event deciding what I want.

Can’t wait for that to arrive! Until then, thanks for reading!

LOTD & Outfit: A Sleek Weekend (Purple, alas!)

By icyabstract · February 18, 2011 · 22 Comments ·

Over the past weekend (which was almost a week ago!), I did some final visitings and re-visiting in the festive mood of Chinese New Year. This time around the visits were more casual compared to the first few days of the lunar new year. It seems the first couple days involved elder and more traditional folks from extended families etc, hence the 'formal' atmosphere.

This post is a couple days late but I had been so caught up that I haven't managed to properly sit down and edit/blog this up, until now. I have another Valentines lotd I want to put up, it's far simpler and more focused on the product used but that would be for later.

Anyway in light of the quite recent Sleek spree, I was reminded of the palettes I already own and decided to show them some love - or show one of them at least.

Products Used:

FACE/BROW
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation in Sand Beige
Silky Girl Translucent Powder (to set)
K Palette Brow Liquid liner in 01
Maquillage Eyebrow Wax in 77

EYES
Sleek Original Palette
L'oreal Colorappeal quad
28 Color Palette
K-Palette Liquid Eyeliner in Black
MAC Powerpoint liner in Engraved
Majolica Majorca Lash Bone
Lancome Mascara in Fatale

CHEEKS
NARS Gilda blush

LIPS
Makeup Store Lipstick in Bare
Majolica Majorca lipgloss in PK102

Highlighted products had been provided to me by companies/distributors.

Purple is my favorite color but I rarely wear it on my eyes as it takes a certain combination or shade for it to work well on me and I'm quite liking how this one turned out.

Here are the specific eyeshadows I used:

1. Outer edge of lid
2. Inner edge of lid
3. Blending the crease

I also used a darker brown in the 28 color palette for contouring the outer-v.

Since these gatherings were more casual I managed to wear my 'official' Chinese New Year-hauled clothes (haul entry here).

I initially had the top tucked out since it was crop but realised it probably looks better this way, tucked in. Pardon the cropped out background, I took this shot from the full-length mirror at the boyfriend's place and the background had random stuff.

I should really utilize my Sleek palettes more. They shades are so pretty and easy to work with that it defnitely deserves more attention from me.

Thank you for reading!

The Double-S haul (Sleek & Simple)

By icyabstract · August 29, 2010 · 17 Comments ·

An itsy bitsy haul featuring 2 items I had picked up over the last month or so.

I believe it could have a been a little over a month but truthfully this was almost all the amount of makeup I had hauled over this period. I still have a extra belated In the Groove MAC haul coming up but I am waiting till I have everything on hand before I post that one - one more item and we're good to go!

Back to this haul. As I've mentioned, I have been pretty disciplined with makeup hauling of late. Maybe receiving goodies from companies gives me new stuff to play with and that in turn satisfies some of my need to go shopping? Either that or because I haven't been stressed lately, hence no impulse need to go shopping. Once I start working, I can't say otherwise!

So, from way back, I picked up the rather talked about Simple eye makeup remover.

I have heard positive reviews about this product and was intrigued by it. While it does feel nice and soothing to the skin, leaving absolutely no trace of oil or any sticky after-feeling, I find it does not pass the test of Majolica Majorca's mascaras. It even takes a bit of work to remove my MAC powerpoint liner with this product.

I guess I shall have to revert to using Neutrogena's Eye Makeup remover and save this for removing foundation because I like the cooling sensation it provides. Can't remember how much this was, I threw it into the basket when I was at Watsons with my mom. *hides*

The second, and also last item, in this haul is a Sleek palette I picked up from a spree Kas (cocomotion) held a while back.

The limited edition Sleek Circus palette! I got a text from Kas saying she had opened her Sleek spree and I rushed (no exaggeration here) to make an order. Due to Sleek's policies, Kas could only order 4 of each palette per transaction.

I can't wait to use this, but at the same time with such bold colors I wonder when or under what occasion I would use them!

Last I checked (today, 29th August) this palette is still available on the Sleek website here so grab it while you can.

A big thank you to Kas for organizing the spree! I have in mind to get my hands on the Sleek Acid palette next, but it's yet another bright colored, 'have no idea when I'll use it' palette. I probably just want it cause it's pretty to look at..

Lastly! I do have a quick question for my lovely readers.

I tend to post brief introduction entries in cases where companies provide me with a couple of products to review/sample or if it is a goodie bag from an event - mainly entries titled 'Goodies'. I normally do those to introduce the products/brand, keep track of stuff I have to review and also give a brief idea of what's to come (in terms of review). I was wondering if you all minded that, since it's not a haul and does feature stuff that had been provided.

I am asking primarily because I had received a couple of packages from companies lately and haven't posted them all up for fear of putting too many back-to-back entries featuring stuff that were provided. I did not want you all to think I am going commercial or anything like that! Do let me know if you mind entries as such or would rather I not do intros and just the reviews.

Though it's my blog, I do ask for your opinions since you all are the ones reading it (:
And thanks again for reading!
